Also this goes for both Sony and Microsoft: stop taking away backwards compatibility, you ding dongs. I'm just gonna hold on to my old systems instead of repurchasing digital games.

I think the Wii U will sell the most units, but will be the least successful in terms of games/exclusives just like the Wii was last generation.
If Microsoft continues to keep trying to reach the casual gamer, Sony will come out on top.

Also, I'm guessing nobody is going to buy an Xbox One to watch TV.

I'm talking about the Call of Duties and the mainstream games. Those usually tend to sell well when a console doesn't have many exclusives.

Not everyone has the internet and not everyone has a strong connection. I don't think the strong connection will matter with the XO because if reports are right, you only need to connect once a day. But still, not everyone has the internet. I read an article that brought up a very good point, military members who are overseas often have consoles but many don't have internet connection. What are they suppose to do during downtime when they want to play a game but they can't because they have to connect to the internet when no internet connection is available?

i don't DISAGREE with you, i'm more just saying that since i do have internet access, that this particular requirement won't be too big a hangup for me... that being said, if the console is useless W/O internet access, bad move on microsofts part.

i am kinda excited for the all-in-one idea though. one box to rule them all.

i readily admit i am partial to the xbox. i have both a ps3 and a 360, and my ps3 is collecting dust. even having to pay $60/year for the live experience, i was still drawn to the 360 more than the ps3 (well that, and the broken mlb.tv app on my ps3 forces me to use the 360).

so i was really excited for the one's announcement, and have overlooked the main concerns that more hardcore gamers have voiced. i actually use the kinect, don't mind having to have one connected. don't mind that it's a media device as much (or even more so) than a gaming console, because everyone else in my house besides me uses it for media and not gaming. don't mind the always on always connected because i don't pirate games or hack my consoles. the no used games idea does suck.... but if it pans out like this guy speculates in this article, then i am actually anxiously awaiting the results of no used games.

blocking used games and instituting a trading system basically sounds like steam without all the versatility (and cheaper pricing) of pc gaming.

if you read the article, that's exactly what they are trying to imitate... the reason game prices are so high is because developers only make money of the first prchase, not the subsequent 9 repurchases. but eliminating used games and moving to the digital world (elimating physical production costs), prices of games should start looking similar to steam

XBox will sell more units as it has more major FPS titles.

I personally will get a PS4 as I like a number of PS exclusive franchises.

In the U.S. I have little doubt you're right about the X-Box selling more units. But keep in mind that the PS3 actually passed the 360 in global sales early this year. That's even more significant when you consider that the 360 had a sizable head-start (about a year if I'm remembering right). But the 360 just never sold in Japan hardly at all, and I don't think the X-Box One will be any different.

So to answer the topic question, I think X-Box One will win in U.S. sales, but PS4 will win global sales. And speaking for myself, I will definitely be getting a PS4 and not an X-Box. I did own both a PS3 and 360 this gen, but I really don't see myself doing that again, since after I bought my PS3 in 2009 I basically haven't touched my X-Box since. There just aren't enough exclusive titles anymore to get both systems.

Even then I don't think I will be buying the PS4 at launch. I'll wait awhile until there's a critical mass of games I care about.

Also, when will Playstation stop making ****ty controllers? The analog sticks are placed in ****ed up spots. The Xbox's controller is far superior IMO.

I have the exact opposite opinion. For me the PS3 controller is perfect. With the 360 controller I had two problems: their d-pad sucked, and I didn't like their bumper buttons (triggers were good, bumpers not). But I'll be interested to get my hands on an X-Box One controller just to see how it feels, because it looks like they have done some significant redesign. The bumpers look markedly better since the controller isn't raised so much on the top any more. The d-pad structure looks better, but I still don't like the look of the positioning.

EDIT: Microsoft just can't seem to help themselves from coming off as arrogant jerks. First there was the "#dealwithit" fiasco, now this. Back-handedly insulting any portion of your customers or potential customers seems like a bad idea, guys. Particularly given that there are these things called "PCs" that can be rigged to play most any old game.

Both systems are pretty much the same minus a couple of exclusive titles (Uncharted vs Halo the biggest one prolly). I love watching nerds get worked up over their alliances. You will have a lot of fun with either game console.
Until the XBox breaks. I had an Xbox 360 and they don't last. I'm not thinking I'll ever by another Microsoft gaming console after going through 3 of them in 4 years. The PS3 I finally replaced it with is 4 years old and never had a damn thing wrong with it. If I was the only one I'd consider it a fluke. But this seems to be the consensus of the people I know who game. Most of my friends from Halo have upgraded to the ps3 because their Xbox's broke again and got tired of paying to have them fixed. I still have my last XBox but it doesn't work. So I could not play it even if I wanted to.

#1- The Wii U is selling HORRIBLY right now. It's been out 6 months and has sole 3.5 million units worldwide. If the Wii U wins in console sales I think it would be a major surprise.

#2- Isn't Nintendo known for having the best exclusives, but by far the worst 3rd party support? Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Donkey Kong. These all sell very well relative to the number of people that actually own a Nintendo Console.

I'll just keep my black 360 slim as long as long as NBA games continue to get supported.
Also the Forza series is the best racing sim ever created.
XBox One looks just as boring as the PS4 does.
No innovation as usual.... just higher graphics, processing, and HD quality.

At this point what else can they do?

Strongly disagree... The innovation just wasn't what GAMERS wanted. The ps4 is going to be a social powerhouse, while the x1 is going to be an incredible MEDIA machine.

While everyone is underwhelmed right now, remember that everything we have seen so far was geared towards the general public and not to gamers!!!!! They will court us officially in two and a half weeks at E3. Everyone should deserve judgment until then!

i love that you know what e3 is. climbing that ladder.

To be fair:

1) Microsoft eventually owned up to the fact that the 360 hardware sucked and broke down if you even looked at it funny, and in response instituted a 3-year retroactive warranty that covered all 360 general hardware failure. That meant they fixed your system for free for 3 years, and if you'd previously paid money to get it fixed, they refunded it to you. Mine broke at least three times, but at least I never had to pay to get it fixed (I'm sure I would have had to eventually, if it wasn't for the fact that I basically stopped playing it when I bought my PS3 slim in late 2009, which hasn't broken once).

2) The newer models don't have the high failure rates that their predecessors did.

Don't get me wrong. I'm still a Sony guy through and through.

I agree. And of course, your point #1 is due in large part to your point #2. There just aren't a lot of great games out for it.

The Wii succeeded because it was aimed at a larger audience than the game industry has traditionally targeted. But that wider audience -- the non-core gamers -- are also the ones who aren't as interested in the next shiny new game system just because it's shiny and new. Which is why there's just no way they're going to succeed with the Wii U the way they did with the Wii.

Smash Bros. and Mario Kart are by far the best console games in the world. They are both games I played since I was 8/9, and continue to play to this day with as much **** talking and screaming to my friends.

Yeah I meant 3rd party support. Particularly blockbuster 3rd parties like COD.
It's true that the Wii U is selling horribly right now, but wait till 1- The price drop. 2- The blockbuster Nintendo game. 3- When people start realizing that it's a new console and possibly a new Wii Sports/Wii Fit.
The fact that it'll probably be a third of the price of the competitors gives it an edge.
My biggest concern with Nintendo right now is that the Wii U sales may've canceled development on some other games due to budget restraints.

I think the new Xbox and PS4 are going to have some trouble out of the gate. The biggest problem is that the difference between last gen and this gen's graphics was stark while the difference between next gen and current gen may not be as much to the average customer (Although, those PS4 screenshots looked amazing).
I really don't know if a lot of people care $600+$70 min worth for graphics.

PS4 has DDR5 ram XBOX has DDR3. Plus the XBOX is running three operating systems? I think it's PS4 right now and it's not even close. UNLESS you are a TV homer and thats your main focus. Not to mention you'll need to be paying for cable TV, high speed internet and XBOX live subscription. Thats a lot of dough! I'd much rather have the console that is made for gaming first and foremost. Plus that XBOX 1 looks like a VCR from the 80's! Sucker is HUGE!

Their reveal presentation yesterday was terribad. I have both a 360 and a PS3 but I hardly ever touch the 360. Bad UI, subscription based online play, no internal wireless card, generally feels kind of cheap. I loved the OXBOX. Just a huge step down in overall quality. Maybe they learned something from it but probably not.

I have both as well... Same situation for me Jules. I rarely play the 360. I haven't decided when I will get a PS4. I'll probably just rob PKM and then head on over to Best Buy to get the PS4 as well as getting up to date Jazz rumors.
