What's new

Quin could decide to end 8 year tenure with Jazz according to Woj and MacMahon

Yeah but Willhelm ended up taking the job. Don’t be surprised when you see Randy Rigby announced as the newest guy in San Antonio and we get the Quin extension.
Wouldn’t it be like Alex Jensen taking the job before Quin could get fired… either way it’s the summer of Quin!!!

I hope this has come about due to a serious and critical discussion over playstyle and roster construction. Jazz are discussing trading Rudy. Quin probably doesn't want to trade Rudy. Yada yada.

If Danny Ainge has the huevos, he'd tell Ryan Smith that neither Rudy nor Donovan are Franchise #1-type guys and that the Jazz should trade both of them to reset their timeline around young stars like Boston did with Tatum and Brown. Jazz aren't going to contend in the next 2 years, and at that point the Jazz may have a Hayward situation brewing with Donovan.

Jazz might be able to get the #4, #7 and #13 picks in this draft, plus a future pick or two, then get another solid pick in the 23 draft. That's 4 or 5 lottery picks, and the Jazz would need 2 of them to really hit. With two All Star-caliber players on rookie-scale, they can fill out the rest of their team.

Boston drafted Smart, Brown and Tatum. Golden State drafted Steph, Klay, Draymond and Poole. There really isn't another path to rebuilding.

Quin's motivation to return to the Jazz is to win the most blown leads in league history stat with our franchise

Because Quin has zero clue how to coach without a screen setting, rim protecting big. He's like Bud Kilmer looking at 5 wide sets.

Letting go a coach who did not win anything in 8 years might be a good idea. Specially if there is no good trade opportunity and if we ended with Rudy and Don again. Same coach and same ''star'' players will bring the same result. A new coach could bring a better energy.

Lots of takes out there but here is mine - they want Quin back and he is not sure if he wants to be here. That may be because of current roster or where Danny wants to go but Quin is not bought in. If he stays it will be for a nice raise.

I would also guess Quin is 100% not interested in sticking around for a rebuild.

Hell he might not even be interested in sticking around for a re-tool.

I am curious what his holdups are about committing to the final year.

Is it really just a powerplay to get a lucrative contract extension?

Does he want more control in roster decisions? Does he want one last shot with the main core (Don/Rudy)? Does he want the core to change? Is he interested in a rebuild if he has the right contract/power?

Also, a lot of assistant coaches have left recently.

Is that a sign that Quin is going too, so his guys are leaving proactively? Is it a sign that the FO is exerting more control over who they want in as assistant coaches, which in turn may convince Quin to leave?
