What's new

Quin Snyder is the new coach

Snyder seems to have run/been through the Spurs playbook as well which I'm sure is a major consideration for the hire

Snyder wasn't exclusively running his own sets during his three years in Austin (because the Spurs bought the Toros for a reason), but he was able to include wrinkles of an intricate offense he's devised while coaching the Toros. Your's truly was never privy to a playbook, unfortunately, but I can tell you that Snyder is an expert when it comes to the plain old pick-and-roll.

Also he was an assistant under Budenholzer last season and the Hawks' offense was beautifully to watch with perfect floor spacing and timing.

If Snyder can re-create that for the Jazz I'm pretty excited about the next season.

Favors said, "I’m looking forward to working with him and looking forward to being a great team this year. I think everybody’s relieved now that we know who the coach is."

Expect "Spurs" offense to be implemented with the Jazz as it seems Snyder knows it like the back of his hands being the coach of the Austin Toros for 3 years.

Not to mention the whole of last season helping Budenholzer (Pop's head assist. for 15 years) implement the Spurs offense to the Hawks. He would have experienced first hand how to implement such a system to a Hawks team that exceeded all expectations, made the playoffs and gave the Pacers a run for their money.

Messina waiting for the call

Well if the lakers don't hire him, I am pretty sure he is going to be here. Sounds like he might be thinking more of a family place as well(just my thoughts).

BASKETBALL / Moscow goodbye, Ettore Messina dreams of the NBA

Ettore Messina, the Italian basketball winningest coach, and one of the most titled of all time in Europe, will leave CSKA Moscow after the final VTB (the League of cestistici most renowned club in Eastern Europe and north) of the Next week, closing his second two-year cycle on the bench of the team of the Red Army. A farewell rewarding but not without bitterness. And with a dream overseas, after the press - even the U.S. - gave it as a candidate before the bench of the Utah Jazz and then to that of the Lakers, where it has been as assistant coach. In the case, it would become the first European NBA coach. "They are just rumors, and sometimes do more harm than good if you do not go anywhere. However, as long as I do not see I do not think, although I hope to get a few phone calls from overseas: I would love to return to the U.S., but we should talk about it calmly in the family, "says the former head coach. What is the budget for the two cycles per CSKA (2005-2009, 2012-2014)? "Two teams and two very different clubs. In the first season to get to the Final Four was a great dream, and managed to win two Euroleague titles. Now it seems almost certain to get there, and looks forward to win another Euroleague, but it does not work that way. Every day you have to tie your shoes "'. In what sense? "Since 2009, when I finished my first cycle, the club has changed five trainers, a sign of the difficulty of finding that magical symbiosis on which to build a successful sporting philosophy founded on certain values. I liked the one created in my first cycle, but that has changed with the new president: there was no sharing with him on the principles which must govern a sports club, too many differences on the 'organization and managing it all. Despite this, we arrived twice in the Final Four, a step away from the final, and, if all goes well, we will win the national championship this year. " The joys and the sorrows the greatest of all these years? "Among the joys certainly the two Euroleague titles, but also won the national title last year with a team decimated this year's victory in Game 5 with the Panatinaikos and always in Game 5 with Lokomotiv after losing Game 1 and 2. Among the disappointments, the interview very unpleasant mocking the president of the club after defeat against Maccabi in the Euroleague semifinals in Milan (with the accusation that the coach had not been able to create a good team and excessive authoritarianism, ed) . But I have paid off the fans in the next trip to Krasnodar, with the signs 'Messina nash trener' (Messina is our coach) and 'Kriapa nash Captain' (Kriapa is our captain). A great satisfaction. " A judgment on the basketball court and the Russian news? "A sport grown a lot thanks to the enthusiasm, to investments that we dream, in halls very beautiful, young talents, which could be sought and exploited better in such a large country, even forming a class coaches of youth teams. As for the press, I have always found to be correct, even in criticism, and never fall in search of scoops or gossip. " The best league in Europe? "From 4-5 years surely to Spanish, thanks to investments, halls and the high number of Spanish players, in which the audience can identify with." And that Italian? "The competition is reduced, now after the long 'dictatorship of Siena could start to Milan, I see favorite for the championship." The League basketball seems increasingly in crisis, after the arrest of President Minucci. "His arrest was not expecting it. The problem, however, is not names but the lack of powers: the president of the League, unlike the NBA commissioner, is only a mediator between the different opinions of several presidents and owners, and the compromise is not going anywhere . They could also put Renzi, but without powers .. "'. A prediction for the final between Miami and San Antonio, who yesterday won race 1., "I hope they win the Spurs and I think this year we can do it. But it is an open challenge: if they play technically, athletically Miami is superior. The key players will be to outline '

Offensively I think we know what he will bring.

I wonder what he will bring defensively. Missouri was a full-court pressure team. But he has been around the pro's long enough to make some smart adjustments.

I wonder what Snyder's opinion of our young guys is. How many of them just became trade bait.

OK. Quin Snyder. He looks like his brother would be Lyle Lovett. There are worse choices for head coach but I am not sold on this guy.

Pressure would be good. Traps and pinches. Using size and length to break up passing lanes. I just hope that they have a defensive philosophy, because they were awful under Corbin.

Reading more and more into this I'm pretty happy now with the Snyder hire over Messina for several reasons:

1. Snyder has had an extensive experience in the NBA with various teams dealing with various NBA personnel. Messina has close to none.

2. Snyder had worked extensively with the Spurs offense with the Austin Toros and having spent the last year with Budenholzer trying to implement it on a team of new players. As opposed to Messina's, the Spurs system is a proven system that seems to have worked well with the Hawks this year with limited talent.

3. Snyder is younger and I think can relate much better to our extremely young team (as opposed to Messina who is older and is used to coaching more mature players)

He worked under larry brown too

Sure seems to have some fire to him (and maybe a fun side as well.) Depending on how he puts together his staff, this might end up being a decent hire long-term.

With that said, having your prospects narrowed down to Boylen, Gentry, Griffin and Jones might have been a brilliant way for Jazzfanz to actually root for the team to hire Snyder. Did we just get social engineered?

Snyder may be a great pick for HC, but I'm bummed that the other 3 finalist were so pedestrian.

How should I feel about this bros?

Why is my overriding thought of Snyder that he was fired from Mizzou for being a sleaze ball?

£¥£

The Jazz need more sleaze in their organization. Perfect hire for that.

You bring up a good point. I like Griffin but he doesn't have enough experience. I hope Griffin gets a head coaching gig in a few years - I think he would do well coaching a team that has talent but has under-performed (such as the Pistons).

Ok, I over being bummed: Quinn may not be Messina, but my hope for Messina was just infatuation. Let's hear it for the Mighty Quinn!
