What's new

Quit whining, and just let Al Jefferson's contract play it's course??

Utah Jazz have two top 3 drafted pf/c. I feel annoyed watching Greg Monroe getting 31.5 minutes, Bismack Biyombo getting 23.1 minutes, and DeMarcus Cousins get 30.5 minutes.

I understand all these people I just listed were on teams worse then the Jazz. However lets now compare people who are on better teams. Josh Harrellson who played only because of Kanter intelligibility managed to get more playing time then Kanter as well as Nikola Vucevic.

We are talking 3rd pick overalls in drafts :/

You guys need to understand that Jefferson just becomes more valuable with better shooters surrounding him. He started to dish the ball at the end of last year and with both Williams, Hayward and Millsap he will have some more targets to dish the ball. Not only that but without a true post presence or a double team threat the value of Mo goes down a lot (see Clevaland after Lebron). Favors will see his minutes improve and I believe he should start. Kanter most likelly isn't ready yet to produce in starter minutes. He averaged 13 mpg last year and if he can get that up to 20 mpg it will be a nice progression. Maybe by the trade deadline the Jazz will have a better understanding of what Favors and Kanter are capable of. It's time to wait and see and steadilly improve the minutes per game of the two young fellows.

I don't think Big Al should be traded until we see what this team can do this year.
Face it, Favors isn't ready offensively.... and I guarentee Al learned a lot from all his Duncan worship in the playoffs.
That is all.

He's shown he hasn't learned much from the other 550 games of his career but you guarantee Al learned a lot from his Duncan worship and the four games they played? That's rich.

I'm not sure if you can really consider it whining to want to trade a big man who:

- Has a large, expiring contract
- Is oftentimes considered a detriment to the flow of the offense
- Is eating up the playing time of two younger big men who show promise and have not yet hit their ceiling
- Was acquired, in part, to placate a star point guard that ended up getting traded for the aforementioned big men

No, I'm not going to be happy with letting the contract play it's course. If the Jazz had done that with D-Will, he'd likely be doing what's he's doing right now: trying to figure out what large market he and Dwight Howard can play in together. The team did it with Boozer, and we were extremely lucky to get the trade exception that landed us Jefferson in the first place.

I've been on the Trade Al Train for awhile now, I still think it's the best course of action. Al and Millsap are both expiring, one of them is going to get traded. It's a matter of who and when. If Al gets traded, I firmly believe Millsap will resign with Utah. But if Millsap gets traded, we're going to see a scenario where neither of them play for the Jazz come next season.

how about NO.

I think you're also forgetting that in the Boozer era, we had nobody to replace the hole Boozer was leaving. Okur was out and who was going to replace that hole? Fesenko??
The Jazz have two young promising bigs.... so no, I'm not really worried about Jefferson's contract playing out.
What do you think the Jazz are going to get for Al that they are really in need of anyway?

Millsap on the other hand is a different story, as I believe he will re-sign with the Jazz. But...... depending how much better his game gets, attributes to being able to afford him anyway.
That's where Jefferson's expiring comes in, and you decide which big man you want.
Or maybe Portland will decide that once more.

If Jefferson gets traded, will this go down as the only off-season that everything Jazzfanz wanted actually happened?

Even the Al bashers must admit that trading him puts us in a tough spot if we don't get a big in return.

I look at Kanter as a relative non-contributor next year. I expect him to show more flashes more often, but not be a guy you can consistently rely on. Millsap is steady, but Favors is still young/learning. We need another big. Al has his shortcomings, but 20/10 is 20/10.

There's been talk of unloading him for an unprotected first. I love unprotected firsts - and I want Favors and Kanter on the floor for 36/28 minutes a night, respectively - but you take Al off this team and don't bring a player back in return, we get worse.

My glass-half-full prediction: 1.) We let Al expire and 2.) Millsap accepts the 6th man role and signs an extension for $10m/per

Do you actually watch the games? The Jazz offense is horrible with or without Al. Blaming him for a complete lack of execution is just plain ignorant. He can't pass out of triple teams when the other four players fail to time any cut or screen.

Posting up Al is the only semblance the Jazz have to a modern offense at this point.

i love the "al has finally learned to pass out of the post" myth. the fact that he did it a handful of times he did so, the reaction by boler and others was so overblown that it made it seem like he had turned into pau gasol. guess what al's assist percentage was last year... 12%. granted, it's his highest ever by 2 percentage points, but that basically equates to an extra assist every two games or so.

and the real reason to trade al has nothing to do with al and everything to do with favors and sap. paul millsap is our best player right now, and favors, with the right development, will be our best player in 3-5 years. so THOSE are the guys who need to play.

After watching the playoffs I'm willing to say Favors is our best player. Either way I agree with your post.
