Quotes from Grizzlies' forums after Game 2-"Rudy Gobert just went Old Testament Book of Mormon on Jonas AND Jaren"

That one where he threw a tantrum about no call and should have gotten technical?

Or the one where JV got technical, for barely touching him with off hand after the shot when Rudy flopped all the way out of the key?

I wouldn't even term that a flop. He was stationary and there was substantial contact prior to him falling down. Sure he embellished but it was hardly on the level of the lebron James headsnap and drop like he just got shot with no one within 3 feet of him.

Sweet you've named two instances... Sure Rudy should have been T'd up... Brooks did WAY more than that without a T in game 1. So sure you get one point.

JV did the same thing in the first half with the "I got hit in the face routine". He's one of the captains of the commemorative "Brad Miller - Is My Nose Bleeding? All-Stars".

So Rudy is going up to block a shot... gets hit in the face and recoils... his reaction seemed totally fine. Ever been hit in the nose... doesn't take much to knock you back. That's tough to judge... Rudy gets hit in the face with the off arm all the time.

So I will grant you one additional free throw... I want the 5 free throws given back that the refs gifted Morant and Jackson on the three completely phantom calls earlier.
I really do not have time going back and re watching all game to argue your points... I just pointed Rudy's flops. One big momentum swing was Brooks getting called for a charge when Conley was clearly still moving sideways. - should have been 2+1 situation for Memphis. I was scared they will challenge it and will overturn it but they already had wasted challenge on Brooks fly over Ingles foul.
And if you say JV did the same thing in first half after getting hit in the face than Rudy should have called for technical too, right?

Here’s my theory: It’s been easy for Memphis to play like they’ve got nothing to lose.... until now.

The 2 play-in games were win and advance. As we all know, ANY team can win 1 game on any given night in the NBA. Props to Memphis as that was definitely their mind set when facing the Spurs and GS.

Then we have Game 1 vs the 1 seed who ends up missing their superstar at the last second. Again, it’s not hard to see why Memphis had the right mentality to steal one.

While Memphis might be the young underdog playing the best team in the league, you can bet your *** that they’re going to start feeling like they’ve got something to lose as this series wears on. Young or not, underdog or not, nobody wants to go home and now Memphis has to protect home court. Buttholes are gonna start clenching in the 4th qtr of Game 3 when the Jazz have a lead with under 5 minutes to play. Jazz in 5. 6 at the absolute max.

Also, lol @ the Memphis fan who said they clearly have more talent than Utah. Without fail, there’s always one or two of those in every game thread. It’s crazy how the Grizzlies won 14 less games and are 7 seeds lower than the Utah Jazz all while being the more talented team.
They were the 10 seed. If the Jazz lose to them it will be the first time a 10 seed beats a 1 seed, so the Jazz better win the series!

I **** you guys not. A dude posted on FB that the Grizzlies and more specifically Morant/Brooks are unfairly getting taken out by the refs. Mitchell can’t be touched without it being a foul. Blah blah blah.

I merely commented that Ja shot 20 free throws alone. He then blocked me lol. Soft as ****.

OMG... that was definitely a charge. Even if Mike was moving a little Brooks came high and led with the elbows.

The hit to the face by JV is an unnatural follow through... the contact with JV earlier was an errant pass and two guys running into each other.

You are really reaching and stated there were tons of examples. None of the calls you mention are more egregious than the JJJ travel and fall that was called a foul or the Ja Morant floater where there was 5 feet of space between his body and another dud and Rudy took the ball out of the air.

It appears you are just flat out wrong... it happens.

JV is a large human who likes to bang into people. Memphis wants a tech for an air punch... thats fine... give me the tech for the Brooks headbutt from game 1 then. They the worst kinda cry babies... think they tuff AF but just crying cuz they lost.

Its just funny how when a French guy flops its disgusting... everyone in the league does it... refs reward it. Stop rewarding it and it stops happening. Maybe actually punish it.

I re watched the replay in slow motion.. definitely not established position, still moving and leaning to the right and should have been 2+1. Agree to disagree.

ok even if you add that I could list at least twice as many bad calls against Memphis. We got homecooking last game, no way to twist around it. Even Shaq said that during half time.... same as Perkins on Twitter.
LOL You just buried your case. Shaq and Perk agree with you? haha, sorry but you have lost the argument.

Utah got a more favorable whistle than in game 1. But overall I feel like the officiating of this series in general hasn't been great for both teams.

That was clearly an offensive foul on JV, so ok.

Its a hard job so all I ask for is consistency. Last night they called a lot of soft fouls... but I thought they were at least even and somewhat consistent. It's not an ideal way to call a game and Kane Fitzgerald generally finds a way to make things weird. I will take last night's crew over Game 1s crew. Touch fouls on Mike on one end and on the other end Brooks was doing his thing and walked out with 2 fouls.

That's fine I guess but Mike took it in the chest and Brooks never really left the floor so Mike was in legal guarding position. He also led with some high elbows so even if no charge you can't really do that. If it was the wrong call it was borderline at best. The Ja Morant foul on the Rudy block was so much more egregious its not funny.

I think it was a charge or no call. Conley was out of the restricted area and I will grant you he moved very slightly but he was in position and brooks was out of control.

Do you know if the same refs travel to Memphis for the next game?

Jazz definitely were on the good size of the whistle more than Memphis, IMO, but that's to be expected. Utah finally got a bit of home playoff cooking from the officials. Still, I expect Memphis to get a bit back Saturday...and I don't think the calls were egregious in favor of Utah. They were just egregiously bad all around.

Ingles and Bog are perfect for Utah. They look like Mormons that only practice 3s
What?? Something like.. "They look like Mormon dads that you overlooked as slow old white guys that ultimately destroyed your team at the Wednesday night churchball game." would have been more creative.
