Jazz are coming off a b2b against the Pelicans who sprint all 48 minutes. So hopefully they're feeling a bit tired. If we come out strong and just push the tempo I feel like Doncic and DSJ can carry us.
DJ has to shut down Gobert. Need to be physical all night with him. Mitchell streaky. Hopefully DFS can bother him a bit. I pray to god Wes stays in his lane. How he played against Toronto was probably as good as its gonna be, hopefully he can build off of it and string together some okay performances.
Wes Matthews with another short floater. How many shots will it take before he'll realize he has no floater game.
Snyder looks like Johnny DEPP when he was younger.
The Jazz hair game is strong except for Ingles....
Utah is a top 5 team but we are playing them at home while they are on the second night of a b2b so I'm hopeful. We also should have our full real starting lineup for the first time.
Donovan Mitchell and Ricky "Juan Stockton" Rubio just had a hot shooting game last night.
Mitchell is picking it up after a slow start to the season, put up 38/5/7 on Wed. Ingles on the other hand had a hot start to the season and cooled down the last couple of games, he can shoot the 3 well though so he's likely to go off on us.
Watched the Pelicans game last night vs Utah. Dallas may want to reconsider switching DeAndre out on smaller players while Gobert is on the court. He was arguably better offensively because of the switches NOP made. Don't let Jordan leave the paint and this team may actually have a chance.
It’s not about posting up- it’s that Gobert last night obliterated Randle and Niko on switches because he got position on them and they were too small
I think Utah is a top 3 team in the west, this one should be good. I predict Ingles will go for 30 since we’ve been bad at defending 3s :/
Mitchell is going to be tough to stop too
Westbrook Matthews
this ****ing dude Wesley Matthews sees Joe Ingles in front of him and thinks
"Yes, I can take him"
And there lies the problem with Utah. They have no weaknesses on defense.
Every point they lead by takes blood and guts to overcome. Dallas must rain threes to win this game. 33% is probably not going to cut it.
Wes does not have an advantage on Mitchell
And yet he insists on posting him up every single trip down
There’s just far too many ball stoppers on this team. FAR TOO MANY.
Barnes, Wes, Barea, and Brunson are all giant black holes. And none of them are all too efficient either.
Still remember the offseason where we discussed Barnes rank among SF. Even healthy he isn´t close to Joe Ingles.
Listen the Jingle-Man has the power of memes behind him. Can't stop getting jingled, just got to plan around it.
UGLY game. Trust me, it’s worse in person. The Jazz are suffocating the Mavs’ offense. Things started to look a little better when Rick subbed Dennis for JJ, of course JJ can’t make anything himself.
Gobert in foul trouble and the Mavs still cannot make a layup. Favors is out as well. Niang and Udoh are embarassing the Mavs.
Mitchel has abused many players in the NBA.
Honestly think Utah is number 2
Luka's current statline looking very similar to Mitchell's rookie stat lines. Small sample size but very interesting.
If we can get Gobert in foul trouble early, we have a great shot at taking this, with Favors out they are very thin with bigs. I expect another big bench performance from Kleber and Powell as they will have little competition against their second unit.
One day we’ll start a game where we can start with the lead.
One day.
Jazz are the team coming off a back to back but you'd never know that
Well, so much for the Jazz starters being tired on their back-to-back after running the Pelicans out of the gym last night. They looked like they were shot out of a cannon and stopped by Starbucks on their way to the AAC.
Am I high or does every time Wes touch the ball he tries to score
Royce O'Neale = Public Enemy Number 1
Wes already has 6 shots?????
Points are going to be hard to get against this team
Damn Ingles knocked that down with Powell right in his grill
It's official Deandre needs to teach all the Mavericks how to shoot free throws
When Ingles shoots ... I assume its 3 for the Jazz...wide open Ingles 3 - bad idea defense ... don’t let him get hot
When Ingles shoots ... I assume its 3 for the Jazz...wide open Ingles 3 - bad idea defense ... don’t let him get hot
Mitchell, Utah's #1 go-to scorer, 10 field goal attempts at the half leading his team.
The Mavs? Lmfao you already know the answer to this one.
We’ve missed like 5 god damn layups
Ingles on his way to a triple double
So we just said **** it to free throw and layup drills huh. ****ing embarrassing
It's insane how many quality shots we take that don't go in. Point blank layups, free throws, open 3s, we are probably bottom 5 in all those even though we get a ton of them
JJ barea is shooting 28% overall and 26% from 3
When your bench is better than your starters
What the hell deandre????? You just let Mitchell walk to the rim. I guess he really didn't want another lob lol .
Bro what are on Mitchell’s feet
Mitchell wow
Mitchell just made Wes his bitch
Allen and Niang are 7-7. The Mavs are ridiculously cursed.
Utah just has better players. The game is easier for them.
How is Utah in the bonus with 9 minutes left in the quarter. UGH
Wes cant even guard Allen
Crowder with eight 2pt attempts (6-8). That´s probably more than Carlisle allowed him in his whole Mavs career.
Wow, so the Mavs just ease away from Mitchell, giving him a wide open jumper, which he promptly drains.
Utah literally just keeps putting Wes and Deandre in a pick and roll and then lets Gobert get the rebound.
Utah literally just keeps putting Wes and Deandre in a pick and roll and then lets Gobert get the rebound.
Gobert vs DJ for greatest FT shooter ever
AND HERE COMES THE WES MATTHEWS CHUCKING JESUS FING CHRIST THIS MAVS TEAM IS TAKING YEARS OFF MY LIFE
Jazz bench was really good and Exum exposed our short, slow defenders.
Utah just has better players. Their players finish the plays, make the basket. Our don't at the same rate that theirs do.
I was watching the game with my father, and said, Utah finishes more of their plays than we do. We watched the Mavs clank 3 shots in a row, and watched Utah hit their shots on 2 out of 3.
Our defensive specialist just got wrecked by Mitchell
DFS on Mitchell makes more sense to me then Wes but what do I know
He will have his way with both tbh
Hot takes. Luka has all these turnovers cause Deandre has virtually zero situational awareness and never positions himself to get easy buckets when Luka is creating. The rest of the team just stands around and plays iso ball because they are used to DSJ going full Kyrie. I'm not sure if that's a coaching issue or a lazy player issue.
Luka is the best dude on the team and its not close.
My boy Dirk lookin like he got some girls working on the corner for him tonight
PIMP NOWITZKI
So lucky Jazz missing wide open 3s
You know I like involving DJ but when Rudy ****ing Gobert is defending him, maybe let’s not isolate him at the perimeter
we should do what mitchell and gobert do on PnR
I would not have the courage to call a tech on Quinn Snyder. Dude looks like he kills for pleasure.
He looks like he should be a Shawshank prison warden.
Quinn Snyder looks like that Houston candy man serial killer
Wes does not ****ing pass ever
beautiful pass by mitchell, my god
Our perimeter defense is ***.
That play was dangerous as ****. Dragged Exum by the arm with a shove on the lower back too.
Exum just bullying our small *** guards.
They would put short *** J.J. on tall *** Exum
exum is killing them tf
exum is too fast and lanky for any of our guards.
best hope is to put DFS on him.
Utah has good bench
Wes let Ingles blow by him
Lmao it’s sad that all of the fouls Donovan Mitchell drew was on Wes
Donovan and Gobert are taking Wes and DJ's lunch money
Grayson Allen, can't leave him open.
Too bad we have two extremely short players trying to stop Exum.
Jazz got a **** ton of free throws and the game is practically over now.
It's official..rick has a fetish for midgets..
Wes can’t even stay in front of Grayson ****ing Allen...
Let’s run away from Mitchell when he shoots the ball
When was the last time Utah didn’t score? Think they’ve scored on like 8 straight possessions
Mitchell and Gobert killing us
Utah is an extremely difficult out even at home
for teams like the GSW, Rockets, Boston, etc. Don’t feel discouraged Mavs fans. Develop DSJ and Doncic and the future looks bright.
Should have had DSJ on Mitchell Wes got killed and DSJ Locked Rubio
To be fair.....
It’s Rubio
Like every other NBA team
Dallas had no chance to solve the Golbert problem. DPOY centers effectively shut down the lane. In last years playoffs not even James Harden often took on Golbert one on one. He is just that effective of a defender.
Let me know if you’ve heard this story before... #Mavs off to a slow start. In a 9-2 hole early.
Start Doncic at Point Guard Start Doncic at Point Guard Start Doncic at Point Guard Start Doncic at PG
It's so hard to be a dallas sports fans smh
Wes is utter garbage and we treat him like he’s Kobe.
Please trade Wes I've had it with that bum
I been screaming this. This team has the worst defense in the nba.And not enough players off bench that can out score their opponents
"I don't care about that and I don't want to hear questions about shots." -Carlisle when asked about Wes' shot attempts
Why? Wes Matthews was taking bad shots after bad shots when he was dribbling. He's a good cutter and a better 3 pt shooter. He should stick to that. A lot of our possessions wasted because Wes Matthews thinks he's become a primary playmaker at age 32.
Common theme in these last 2 loses: SO many missed layups. Just absolutely deflates any comeback efforts. Then again, if the #Mavs could get off to better starts... It’s just frustrating right now, guys.
Fire rick. Luka is a playmaker, not a spot up shooter. Trade the brick brother Wesley Matthews and Harrison Barnes for Butler. 8-30 fg?? And yes, wes had 22 points, but 10 were on ft
Can someone let know mr Matthews he doesnt need to be the topscorer of this young team, and he could be more useful if he focuses on defense and spot up threes where he really good at? Also whats the point that Luka didnt get any ball in the second half?
It takes a genius to tell your most creative and your best player to go to the corner and wait for a catch-n-shot .
How do you help the Mavericks? Trade Matthews or Barnes to the Timberwolves. Get Jimmy Butler. Fire Carlisle and hire Jason Kidd. DSJ and Luka see further development and Mavs make a push to the playoffs. You’re welcome.
Why Wesley Matthews thinks he can float with left hand when he can't even float with his right one?
At this point, I don't expect us to win any games against playoff teams.
Notes:
· Bench was awful. Enough said.
· Teams know how to defend our pick and roll. Defenders would rather defend the lob rather than the floater. Dallas guards really need to work on their floaters in order to have the defending big men commit to them.
· Loved DSJ tonight. Aside from his careless turnovers down the stretch, he played really well. He attacked the basket aggressively against a team with the best defending big man in the league (aside from AD). He still needs to work on his finishes, but this was a huge jump from his first few games.
· Luka was really quiet this game. I honestly think Jordan had the ball more than Luka did at the top of the key. Hopefully he bounces back tomorrow.
· HB is rusty. His defense was badly needed and I'm glad he is back. He just needs to make some shots.
· Jordan still refuses to be a lob threat. He is slow to roll and it cost the guards (especially Luka) a lot of dumb turnovers. He probably spends more time on the elbow than he does down low. This in turn allows the defending big man double team the guard because Jordan isn't a threat from midrange. I hope something changes because this defeats the purpose of having Jordan on the offensive end.
Honestly, the mavs are breaking my heart with these games. Aside from the atlanta game, the mavs start off slow, come back, get behind 10 points, come back and take the lead for 20 seconds, then ultimately go down 10 points.
I mean the emotional rollercoaster that these games put me through is not fun lol oh well.
There must be someone in the coaching staff coddling Wes, telling him that he's "THE MAN" n **** cause there's other reason he should be taking 17+ fg attempts a game. Smh
Its ridiculous that he is getting away with being the alpha on the team right now. Any other team in the league he comes of the bench for 10-15 mins a game.
The sad reality is, for better or worse, this team is going to live and die based upon Wes Matthews's shooting for whatever puzzling reason Carlisle has in his mind. These box scores are predictable at this point.
Wes is that guy from everyone's high school varsity team that is a black hole on offense once the ball is passed to him and just chucks shots regardless of how bad they are
Wes was terrible, got roasted by Mitchell and was horrifically inefficient, DSJ threw away all his goodwill in the 4th quarter when he turned back into the normal DSJ pumpkin, his drives are still horrific and his D is atrocious and zero playmaking whatsoever, he was good for 3 quarters, but I still see very little to like, because he's bad at the things he needs to be good at to succeed, he's too raw and is gonna need another year and a half IMO. Luka wasn't great but DAJ needs to learn how to freaking roll, he's one of the weakest roll men I've ever seen, and caused at least half a dozen turnovers because of it. Also he's a terrible help defender
