Reading the Tea Leaves

I love Burke. He'll be fine. He's a better fit for our team also.

At this point, any point guard other than Lucas and Tinsley would be better. Tank you very much!

I do love me some Burke though. I just keep thinking about him blocking that shot in the final four.

Both shot poorly. But MCW is 6'6". Trey isn't even 6'0" (I know his profile says 6', but I'd bet $100 he comes up short of that). In any case, even if he is just 6', Trey had difficulty even getting his shot OVER people in the SL. It wasn't a matter of just missing shots. And it's not like Trey has outstanding quickness. There have been many successful guards 6'0" and under. And almost all of them were lightning fast.

Yeah Trey slipped 50k in their pockets before the combine measurement and told them to fudge it.

Yeah just looked it up. Sorry
I've seen Chris Paul, and Trey is no Chris. Nor is he as fast as Lawson. Kemba is a volume chucker. IMO, there is virtually no chance Trey ever becomes a top-10 PG. Maybe he'll slide into the 11-15 range. MAYBE.

No argument there. I'm just saying I doubt Trey can be a PG for a contending Jazz team. They'll need to upgrade at some point (pun intended).

Didn't say that at all. What I said is MCW will have no problem getting his shot off.

Then why did he have problems getting his shot off in the pre-season?

Look dude, MCW is perfect proof that shooting numbers in the preseason are 100% meaningless. If Burke has trouble getting his shot off in the NBA (lol) it won't be because of some ****ing summer league performance.

He isn't giving up 4 or more inches to his opponent. Even if a SG or a SF switches off, MCW still has the size to get off a jumper. Burke needs to get his shot off early. And forget about driving inside. It just isn't going to happen. Burke was an ok shooter in college: 45%/36% but there's nothing special about those %'s.

Lololol what were MCW's averages? Also, what were Burke's scoring numbers? What were the stats of his team's offense? I'll give you a hint: it was appraised as the best offense in the country last season.

It doesn't matter because any jump shot he takes will never be a high percentage shot. MCW is 27 for his last 79, 34%, aka bust territory.

I think it depends on who we get in the draft. If we get Parker or Wiggins, then we probably don't need a top PG. Burke will certainly be a better PG than Chalmers, and Miami contends. That is a special situation though. Right now, most of the contending teams have good point guards, like Parker, CP3, Rose, Westbrook, etc. The only difference in Miami is that LeBron is basically the second best PG in the league.

As long as we run Jerry's system, PG is our most important position. If we managed to land Wiggins or Parker we'd need a new coach.

Replace John Lucas III with Trey Burke. Replace Richard Jefferson with Jabari Parker. Go get a few vets for the bench.

Things will be better.

The worst part about Burke being out is that we still have to hear people bitch about something as meaningless as ****ing summer league. My god.

Hes been given a interim season, a lockout season, a FULL season, and now this season to get it right. I don't know how many chances your supposed to get as a head coach, but if regression is all a coach is showing up to that point, I don't see what the point would be to extend his contract.

This is business in the end is about the Utah Jazz, not Tyrone Corbin.

And say what you want, other than the point guard position, he was given a stacked roster last year.

There HAS to be some limit to FO patience with Corbin. If, for example, the team goes 2-20, I don't see any way in hell that the FO cannot fire Corbin. We are on pace of historic suckiness here, someone has to be held accountable for it. You reach a point (and we are heading there) where things become so bad that your hand is forced. Mark my word, Corbin will not last the season. I don't think he will make it to mid-season. In fact, if the Jazz don't get a win soon, I would not be surprised if Corbin were fired much sooner than that. He just has not proved he can get his players collectively to play above their individual potential. I feel comfortable we have enough data points to know who Corbin is and what he can accomplish. Time for a change. It can't get worse, can it?

This is hard for me to write, but I don't think Burks is ever going to be a good two guard unless he fixes his shot. He has a descent stroke, but I think he doesn't focus on getting his body and his feet set when he shoots. You can still see him turning in air when he shoots from the wings. I love his athleticism, but a shooting guard has to be able to shoot.
