REALGM: Joe wants out

Especially if it's known he'll be bought out, I don't think anyone will give up anything for him or pay that salary unless they're dumping something undesirable on us. I give it a 75% chance he's just bought out rather than traded.

The Pelicans still need to shed salary, and JJ's expiring is a perfect match to dump Asik on Chicago in a 3-team.

I'm sure he has a list of teams he'd be happy to go to. If they can get one to bite then they'll make a trade. Most likely they'll need to buy him out. Probably the right thing to do not only for Joe, but to clear up those minutes for guys who are honestly better this season anyway.

yeah. i don’t blame him. I hope he plays for a ring. That shot against clipper in game 1 will be one of my fav jazz moments forever

Thanks Joe whatever happens.
Your post up/floater and post up/step back shots were a thing of beauty. Great scoring fundamentals.

what if....

we can send HOOD, johnson for the potential 2-5 pick the celtics get from the lakers..........................is it risky? i think the lakers are going to continue to **** it up.

Joe got us a series win last year and it was fun to have him on the team, but let's not get all emotional about it. We are not going to raise his jersey in the stadium.

The only way we trade him is if the other team agrees to buy him out. I would imagine it would be for a player with multiple years on his contract still - someone like Fournier.

... but I doubt out. We will probably just buy him out. I hope he doesn't sign with the Warriors. I am about Warriored out.

Much appreciated from Joe. I made a thread with all the games he won us (including the clippers playoff games). It was somewhere around 10 games that he literally carried us. He won't be traded but WILL be bought out

Ainge would hang up the phone and block DL’s number. That pick is their gold mine.

Joe Johnson did more for this franchise in one playoff series than Gordon Hayward did in a 7 year Jazz career. Mad props.
Donovan Mitchell has done more, save Joe Johnson only, for the competition of Jazz basketball in this decade, than any other man that ever played in it.

Love Iso Joe! Fun to watch him and having him be a part of the team! I think that this is an admirable thing to do for him. $11 Million this year minus 61% of the season already played (50 / 82) = roughly $4.29 million buyout if he isn't taking a discount. He likely gives us a discount because he will make at least the vet min with anyone else. So... $2.5 - $3.5 million dollar buyout sounds reasonable.

I hope that happens because I would like to see him compete with another team for a championship.

In spite of that I am getting more optimistic that we could make the playoffs and I think that we could use him if we get there. Pelicans losing Cousins. Clippers losing Griffin. Jazz getting back Gobert. Still, Joe wouldn't be on a contender team with us either way.
If he wants out, then the buyout should be very little. Otherwise what is the incentive for the Jazz, He's the one that wants out. If he really wants out to play for a contender then take the least amount the Jazz can pay him and be bought out.

However I wish JJ the best. He's been nothing but a class guy for Utah and if he wants to play for titles the Jazz should give him the chance by being as accommodating as possible. If he finds a trade getting a second rounder is plenty, they are out of the contract and get a little something as well. If he wants bought out then buy him out for the minimum the rules allow and let him find a contract for a contender.

I understand his situation here and get why he wants to go to a playoff team. I have no hard feelings for him wanting any of that.
