What's new

Ric Bucher reporting Jazz have signed Randy Foye to a 1-year deal

I meant teh quality of the play.

His quality of play has been pretty much the same over his entire career. His second year has an uptick on 3pt% and a downtick on FT%. He's really no different statistically. Assist rate is that of a SG, not a PG. He assists 1 of 5 baskets when he's on the floor. Watson, in comparison, is better than 1 of 3.

Uh-oh. Jefferson clearly has the upper hand. He forced koc to make this trade because Randy used to be his old buddy back in Minnesota. Big Al and dandy randy used to hit up the local Golden Corral after each loss, which was quite frequently.

What a change! If you had told me 2 years ago we'd be a landing place for guys like Howard, Tinsley, Foye, etc., I'd have called you crazy. Jazz are still unattractive to probably 75% of FA's, but making inroads with the other 25%.

Jazz might have the deepest and most flexible bench in the NBA this year, three deep at every position.

Will his primary position be backup pg or sg?
I'm sure it's flexible, depending on who may be out each week.

Does give the Jazz some trade chips at the deadline. Jazz could conceivably pick up a late first and/or second rounder for some of their spare parts (not counting Jefferson and Millsap).

Wonder what the front office told Foye to get him to sign a one year deal. I suspect that there are further moves to be made, altough I like the team a lot right now. We have the depth and talent to run like hell and play tenacious D. Foye has played for Minnesota and the old Clips. Until a player fails in the Jazz system, I'm never ready to throw them out if they have God-given talent. Suddenly we are one of the most athletic teams in the league, and we don't play bonehead ball.

I have to admit that I'm not really set on selling Al until we can have a glimpse of what he can do with a training camp and shooters on the wings. If we can speed things up a bit, it should make more space for both his and Kanter's game. Instead of two ball fakes, a drop step, and a push shot, all could use the dropstep and dunk if the defense isn't set.

Teams with severe athleticsm have always been a problem for us, always. It will be interesting to see if we can coast o n pure athleticism every once in a while as well.

This just depresses me despite the signing..

Teams just aren't willing to offer much right now. Jazz probably gave him close to the full MLE for one year since they had some money under the luxury tax threshold. Counting Murphy (and Carroll) and deducting Raja, this puts them at 14, so it's not like they were shopping for multiple players. Maybe the best offer Foye could get was half of that for a couple of years. Outside of signing core players, most teams are scared $%^# about the puntive tax.

But you never know. Watson and Tinsley are on 1 year deals. KOC could be looking towards signing Mo and Foye as the PG's next season, while picking up a young one to develop via the draft.

Is that your real photo?

Maybe Foye just the FA market was looking pretty grim and decided to put a hold on and hope for next year. This way he probably gets paid more in this single year than he would otherwise and can hope for a better offer next year.

I don't know about this signing..

Situation on the wing/point is this:

PG: Mo/Watson/Tinsley
SG: Hayward/Burks/Foye
SF: Marvin/Carroll/(Hayward/Millsap)

I just don't like the fact that Corbin will now feel pressured to play Foye in some situations to get the 3pt shooting. But we have Burks who's already going to be playing behind Hayward (since the Marvin trade). Moreover, neither Burks/Foye can play SF effectively - so you can't even pair them together in the 2nd unit.

So it seems like Burks will be carrying the short end of the stick. Burks look ready to start after SL. Now he's playing behind Hayward and will have to compete against Foye for minutes?

Of course if one of our PG/SG gets an injury then things changes drastically, but as far as things stand now, there seems to be a bit of a roadblock for Burks and I don't like it.

I would have preferred giving our 2 minutes more to Kev and Burks, but I think the jazz are approaching our roster status a bit differently. We are packing our team with three point shooters, by signing not one but three players who had great percentages from three last season. To me, it's a sign that they wanna give the Al excitement another whirl with a team that has great three poor shooting. And hell, it just might work. Interested to see what happens, and how this next season unfolds altogether

A 28 year old former lottery pick who will be on his fourth team in seven years.

The best case scenario is that we need him as little as possible.

But yeah, I'm worried for Burks. But you know, you can never have too much talent. Let Burka-Durka fight for minutes. It might instill him to work harder in the offseason,

I shall remember this post, Tink. Beware. It might come back to bite you in the ***.

I don't know what KOC promised him, but if you're Foye, how can you be happy coming off the bench behind Hayward & Burks? After you started 30+ games last season?

Do we need another whining vet on our bench? (does that ring a *Bell*)??
