Roster Addition Wish List

Swallowing the Hill contract is worth a first by itself imo. I think you are right. OP either forgot how to play or he is just done being Wall and Brooks whipping boy.

OP is a good all around player who is playing with two ball dominant guards who like to shoot the ball. If you put him with a pass first guy like Rubio and willing passers like Mitchell and Ingles, he could flourish here.

I'm not a big fan of his contract at all (which is why I think a 1st is unnecessary), but I do feel like he would help us. At a time when we have Mitchell, Ingles and Crowder on such bargain contracts, I want our front office to get bold.

Is Otto Porter really worth giving up our summer flexibility for? I don't think so unless we think he's going to become an elite stretch 4.

Let's take a look at stretch 4 options for the summer:

Niko Mirotic - seems like he's a great fit and happy at NOLA. He could become available if NOLA goes in a different direction. It is very unlikely he leaves NOLA but even more unlikely that he comes to Utah.

Tobias Harris - the Clippers have already said that keeping him is a priority. Could he just walk? Sure, but it is very unlikely he goes to us if he leaves at all.

Harrison Barnes - he could exercise his player option and leave for us. Very unlikely, but possible.

Paul Millsap - Denver could decline his option.

Marcus Morris

Markeiff Morris

Thaddeus Young - probably stays in Indy

I think it would be unwise to pass on Porter just because we hope to get Harris or Mirotic. I think Porter is a better player than everybody on this list no named Harris. Mirotic is a better shooter, but Porter is a better overall player. If I was a betting man, Young, Barnes, Mirotic and Harris stay put.

I'm still just not convinced the Jazz are going to be able to land any of Middleton, Harris or Niko in free agency. If they have a chance to add a player like Bradley Beal or even Otto Porter through a trade, I think they have to aggressively pursue it, even if they have to give up valuable assets in the process.

I understand Harris and Middleton possibly being unattainable, but didn’t Niko say last year that the jazz were the one team he wanted to play for?

I don’t think he’s a full time 4... he can play both. He’s not really assertive but he was money on catch and shoot threes. I think he’s a guy that could function really well in our system and can play a lot at the 4.

I would give up summer flexibility for him. I don’t think this years free agent market is one that presents good value for teams like us. I’d rather use our expiring contracts to get good players and look for FA value with the mid level exception.

It depends on how confident the front office is that they'll be able to convince one of their free agent targets to sign here.

I think he’d have interest in coming here but I’m not sure we are in pole position and I’m not sure paying Niko 4/100M+ is something we’d end up thinking is a home run. If NO thinks they can keep AD they will pay him.

One thing to keep in mind is there are some ****** teams with lots of cap space so FA will have some leverage. I don’t think you see a lot of value signings in the top tiers.

The Bullets have been trying to move O-Po for a while. There is a reason it hasn't happened yet. Actually 27.3 million reasons a year for the next three years. He has under performed since he signed that contract and it would be a big risk to this teams future cap flexibility to think he will play better here. Not saying it shouldn't be done, but I personally think it doesn't make sense. But there are other players I think we could get and would perform better, especially if we dangle similar $$$. At that $$$, I'd want assets back rather than give something up for Porter.

I think there is a lot more value in taking good players on okayish contracts from teams that think they will be free agent players. Guys in this group would be:

- Tim Hardaway Jr. - Take away the name and look at his production this year. His contract is viewed as worse than it actually is. He did fine in the Atlanta system so i think it'd work. I don't know what type of guy he is off the court or in the locker room. He might be great... I don't know.

- Gallo - His production this year is phenomenal. If you are talking stretch combo forwards he may be the best we can get... when he's healthy. If they are to reach their goals of signing to max dudes (super unlikely imo) then they need to move off of his deal.

- Dinwiddie - He has a low cap hold so they may keep him on the books and waive Russell's caphold. They may not be able to retain him while doing business elsewhere. If we could trade for him then do his extension this would be great... but I am 90% sure its against the rules... think you have to wait six months or something.

-Evan Fournier - They are playing too well to just dump him... stay tuned and wait until they start sucking.

-Obvi - OP Jr. cause Washington is a **** show.

Wall - huge contract, not the #1 guy you'd want, 15% trade kicker
OPJ - solid player, not sure if he's a star but he's paid like one
Beal - Would be a great #2 option, only 25 years old, under contract 2.5 more years

We spent $17 million to keep Favors when we knew he didn't fit perfectly. Paying $10 million more (which ironically is almost as much as the salary cap will go up this year) for a player who can do everything on the court is worth it in my opinion.

We don't get guys like Otto Porter Jr. to join us in free agency. It just doesn't happen. Sure, we might get an older version in the form of Thabo or Jerekbo or Joe Johnson, but it's not a player who is in his prime and has the ability like Porter Jr.

Check out this list of the best free agents we have ever signed. Pretty sad considering two are guys who we matched on their offer sheet....

Why on Earth do we want Rodney Hood 2.0, the overpaid version, in Fournier?

OP Jr. Catch and shoot three point percentages

2016 - 44.2%
2017 - 43.5%
2018 - 36% - still good but his slow start is either an aberration or he's done with that situation.

Add that at the 3 or 4 with solid defense and we become much better.

During the month of Feb last year... with no Wall... He went 19/7/3 on 52/40/89 shooting splits and the team went 8-4. Small sample, but the "everyone eats Wizards" may have given us a glimpse that he can ramp things up when the ball moves a bit better.

This is the guy I keep coming back to. His health is definitely concerning but when healthy he'd be a great fit. Imagine how much spacing he would give us on offense. I think his contracts actually pretty reasonable and I think he's probably pretty attainable. But again, his health is an issue.

Because when Rodney was healthy and actually tried on defense (he didn't his last year here) he was a useful player. We could use his shooting and Evan is a better ball handler/passer than Hood imo.

Most guys look better with our coaching and system... I think Evan would do slightly better here.

If healthy he raises the team's ceiling quite a bit. There is a good chance he isn't healthy all year, but we are pretty deep.

The big knock on him imo is age. He wouldn't be like a future core piece for the next 5 years like Tobias would be.

I see Fournier as more of a Hayward than a Hood.
