Roster Building From Here - FA and Summer of 2023

... Wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwhy?

His reasoning was basically because the vets that helped us win games (Conley, Beasley and Vando) the first half of the season are gone, and we're going to be playing 3 rookies next season and you typically don't win a lot of games with rookies. He also mentioned Doc Rivers second season in Boston when they started a rebuild and had a 33-49 record the first season of the rebuild and then went 24-58 the next season...he thinks something very similar could happen with the Jazz. Said when he projects what he thinks next years roster will be, he thinks it's probably about a 25 win team. He also thinks we're still really short on talent at this point.

I don't think he said that. Said it would be a possibility.

"I've started to piece together next year's roster and I've got to be honest, when I do that, I think it's closer to a 25 win roster than a 35 win roster". He did add that maybe Lauri will be so good, and maybe Kessler will be so good defensively that he'll be proven wrong.

Utah is going to lose some players from the roster that were contributors, assuming they don't exercise their options (please opt out Rudy!), so I an see Locke's point here. If the idea is to tank the **** out of net year, it's a prime opportunity from that sort of standpoint. That said, I don't see Lauri wanting to remain around if don't have some idea in mind. My best guess is Utah simply grabs what talent they can from this draft class (all the Wings), sort out the guard rotation, and keep an eye on the trade market for some additional star power (if a deal if feasible).

Assuming that, 35 wins is more realistic, but a much higher ceiling than the current roster as is. It simply depends if Utah gets a joyboner from keeping/re-signing Clarkson and THT or not.

I'll have to listen again but when I heard it it just sounded like a devils advocate thing and not something he was truly buying into

THT/Dunn
Ochai/Sexton
Lauri/Simone
Olynyk/Gay/Samanic
Walker/Jones

That seems like our roster for next year as far as players under contract.

11 players. 3 draft picks. That only let's us sign one player in free agency, which I'm assuming the Jazz want to be Clarkson. The Jazz might not be as aggressive in free agency as I thought.
I think the jazz only draft two players this off season. I have no info or anything to show that would be the case. Just a gut feeling. Also hoping that gay gets dropped somehow (I dont know the options/rules on that though)

I also think if Gay is not moved in the offseason that he will be waived or bought out. We will have enough other options under contract and be flexible enough with cap space that we no longer need his contract to match salaries elsewhere.
Please

If we traded Lauri maybe. We will want to give the Thunder the pick we owe… next years draft is not likely a good one.

he ran some ducking simulation of “point gains brought to you by Built Bars” and thinks the pelicans are the best team in the league or some ****.
lol!

I wonder if we could pry Luka away from Dallas for a combo of picks and peeps. Haven’t done the hard maths, so don’t y’all freak out on me for daydreaming.

Cuban being it's Dallas and not a basketball city, and the way that fanbase is, is the last guy that would trade Doncic to anywhere for less than a elite or potentially elite player.
Cuban and co probably will trade him though, especially if Kyrie walks, like he probably will. But I bet Luka ends up in Nawlens for Zion Williamson whop might never play there or something similar like heads to Boston for Brown etc. At least before Cuban sees our assets as worth more to a guy trying to fill the AAC before he dicides taking back a bunch of late first Cavs picks and swaps or mediocre Wolves picks force the Mavs to also tank to get better. I mean what is our best player the Mavs are getting? Sexton? I doubt a guy coming off injury that hasn't played in 2 years not named Zion has much appeal to Dallas

Because he needed coaching bud, not that weird.
Possibly. Could also be that Hardy liked conley, sexton, and NAW all better. Maybe next year Hardy will like Sexton, george/wallace and Dunn better and THT is back to 3rd or 4th stringin it again.
Now, if he opts out and the jazz are the one to sign him to a new contract then that would bode well for his spot in the rotation. But I dont think playing THT a bunch after trading away conley and naw and having clarkson and sexton hurt really tells us much about how the jazz feel about him.

Maybe try reading what Hardy has said

It feels like now that we have plenty of cap space, now we are finally nailing the fringe contracts. We really could have used all of these useful players on minimum deals back when we were competing.
