Rudy's comments

I love Rudy but I hated these comments. Why say this in the media instead of talking to teammates or coaches about it? He does some things on offense very well, he's probably the best screen setter in the league and he has great gravity rolling to the rim and is obviously very good at catching lobs. But he also fumbles a lot of passes because he doesn't have great hands and is vey clumsy and awkward when he tries to post up, even when guarded by smaller players. He's been terrible from 3 feet or more outside the basket for his whole career. After breaking the dunk record last season opponents are understandably guarding him differently this year, they're keeping a man between him and the basket most of the time to prevent lobs and dunks. Not sure what he wants his teammates to do.
Aaron Baynes sets the best screens.

I have no problem of Gobert wanting to get points down low when no one else can score in the paint. Jazz need points in the paint or they won't make the playoffs. They're gonna take a whipping from Milwaukee and Philly.
I have no problem with that either. I do have a problem with him making these comments to the press. I take 5-10 games off Jazz wins this season based on what this signals. I'm also not on team "make Rudy a statue" anymore. I no longer consider him untouchable. I like this whole team a little less after reading his comment. The Jazz have seldom been dysfunctional. This is a comment that I expect from a dysfunctional locker room.

I have a lot less hope for the team this year based on this.

Highest expectations for the Jazz I've ever had to middle of the road expectations in one comment. And one of my favorite Jazz players ever made it happen. I think I'm going to go downstairs and take his signed Jazz shirt off my wall.

How long is his contract? I bet we could get a huge haul in a trade.

People keep saying "He should have said this to the coach or his team mates." Who wants to bet he already has a bunch and decided to say it out loud?

How many times in your life were you afforded a second chance, by friends, family, or bosses at work, after lets say, making a mistake, or an error of judgement?

I'm not particularly saying that Rudy did anything good or bad per say, but I think you may be acting a little silly in regards to this.

We won't contend for a title if we run plays all night for Gobert. He is simply too limited offensively. The threat of a Gobert lob should be more deadly for us than actually throwing it all the time.

Gobert needs to know his place. The Sixers didn't run a ton of plays for Motumbo, but he was an icon for defense and rebounding. Do what you do best Rudy - play defense, rebound the ball, set screens and finish lobs occasionally.

And; don't complain to the press.

Royce has missed him a few times now not having the ability to throw the correct pass , so he passes up a open 3 , drives and turns it over or misses the layup ..

Conley is similar , but to be honest , his lack of height hurts his ability to throw the correct lob ..

Exum , as much crap he gets on this board is great at timing the pass , his long frame draws the big in ..

The opposition bigs are staying back with Rudy , they don’t fear the drives of Royce or Conley .

I still believe we need to start Ingles ... when he drives he draws in Rudy’s big ... then fakes the pass for an easy layup or throws it up after Rudy’s guy leaves him ..

I think Rudy's comments were really directed at Donovan. Donovan is the guy who has the ball in 4th quarters and drives time and again. It's like Rudy is saying he feels a bit neglected on offense when Donovan takes over.

Rudy cares about his individual recognition. He was down trodden about missing the All Star game last year. He knows he needs to be seen as a solid offensive player to get that recognition this year.

I'd like once in a while for Quin to draw up the last shot for Rudy. But that's up to Quin. The fulfillment that Rudy would get would be through the roof. Problem solved.

He had similar comments last season and iirc the year before as well. It's nowhere near a big deal. It's something they most likely talked in practice anyway.

The thread is about Rudy's comments. So complaining about the injured Exum being a pansy has nothing to do with Rudy's comments. It just seems that a majority of threads always end up throwing in negative comments about Exum when his injuries have nothing to do with the topic of the thread.

I hope you’re kidding lol, this is way dramatic. As a side note, I’m dramatic from time to time so yes this is very dramatic.

I don't see what is wrong with these comments. Rudy has shot over 60% from the field the last three seasons. Two of those three seasons he was over 66%. His shots this year are down 2-3 attempts per game which you could say would be expected given our offseason additions. But at the same time he is a huge threat at the rim that can take some defensive heat off of our perimeter guys if we utilize him correctly. And after watching the first 7 games we seem to be ignoring him in that way.

His comments are factual and fair. We have a high percentage shot there that we aren't utilizing enough.

So what's the problem? The concern that a factual statement would upset teammates? If a factual statement upsets teammates we have a bigger issue as a team.

My guess is his teammates saw this and went... "yep"
