There is absolutely no way we should match MAX offer should Hayward get one. The argument whom to spend money on is ridiculous. Haven't we learned anything at all from AK47 fiasco? You cannot overpay players, and Hayward, while a very solid above average player, is nowhere near a difference maker to invest MAX in.
If Exum becomes great, if Kanter develops, Burke and Burkes have good years, they are going to demand significant contracts. Also what if we can trade for a good player in the future using the CAP room. There is absolutely no room to give out overpaid contracts. And MAX for Hayward is WAY overpaid. If Cavs offer it to him, good for them, let them have him. We are not in position to give money away just yet - we don't even have the core established that can win games.
Not to mention Hood and Gobert, both could be pretty good in 3-4 years themselves.
