Sanders is much better than Hayward

Since my first post went over so well I thought I try another. Hayward at best is a bench role player that might get the Jazz 20 minutes and at his best get 13 pts, 4 rbs, 2 assits a game. He probably wont last 10 years in the league. Larry Sanders a big, long armed, blocking machine should have been the pick.

I just want to ask how Honz (obviously a Jazz P.R. member hired to change people minds or Hayward's brother) has been so successful convincing everyone that the Jazz made a great choice.

Rip away.

Id take him over Gordon B. Hayward too.

All that may be true, but Sanders is a 4, we are stacked with players who can play the 4 on this team. Hayward fills a need and is much better than you give him credit for. Hayward's best case senario as far as his career goes is a starter who is considered a borderline All-Star and the ultimate role-player, which is exactly what we need.

Bold predictions for players with 0 minutes of NBA game time.

You obviously back up your claims with absolutely nothing, so that's how I'll treat the post, as absolutely nothing.

Wow borderline allstar. I have to respectfully disagree I watched and recorded every summer league game. He was not agressive and didn't shoot that well. He got a lot of his points shooting free throws and the end of games. He was not at all impressive. His defense will be his biggest weakness. He does not have the lateral movement to stay with Paul George let alone the kobe's of this word. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't think so.

I think honz didn't succeed in convincing everyone as much as the sheer prospect of hope has changed the tune of many on the board. The attitude seems to be "if he was the wrong choice, well now he's my wrong choice so I might as well hope for the best."

I can't go back in time and change KOC's pick no matter how much I disagree with it. I can only hope that it turns out I'm wrong, and if that's the case I'll happily eat that crow. Don't mistake hope for validation of honz oldtimer. You know he's ready to crap the bed and change his username if it turns out Hayward looks overmatched the first month of the season.

Well not really a good statement from a newbie... If the Jazz would have tooken Sanders with the 9th pick it would be a big big big reach way bigger than the Hayward pick. After watching Butler's tourney run I was estatic when I heard David Stern say "With the 9th pick in the 2010 NBA Draft the Utah Jazz slect Gordon Hwyard from Butler University." What would we have done with Jefferson, Millsap, and Sanders? Hayward was the best pick possible in my opinion I think the Jazz made the right choice.

13 pts, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in 20 minutes would be pretty fantastic production. Throw in a steal and a half a block and you've got a translated PER of like 20. If Hayward puts up anything close to that, I'll be pretty ecstatic with the pick.

Yeah, I was a little surprised when the OP made those sound like crappy numbers.

I said best case scenario btw

I think he meant that will be his best season at his peak, not what he will do his rookie year.

The 13/4/2 prediction and the 20-minute prediction were two separate thoughts, I think. Rookie year: 20 minutes per game. At his best (career-wise): 13/4/2.

In his rookie year Hayward will be lucky to see the floor. To play as rookie for Sloan you have to be able to play defense i.e. Mathews. Hayward's biggest weakness is his defense.

P.... Rex was right when he said I meant the best he'll ever do in the NBA. I will say this about Hayward as I try to look at the positive side he was much more physical than I thought. He banged well with the big guys under the basket.

Shandon Anderson wasn't very good at defense and he played a lot as a rookie.. Only looked like he did because he backed up Jeff Hornacek.

Sirkickyass is right. I had nothing to do with changing people's minds about Hayward. Almost nobody else liked him as a prospect or liked the pick when I was tooting his horn. The only reason people are coming around on him is because people are talking themselves into liking the pick. Let's just hope that I was right about him being a very good NBA player, eh?

I just like him because he preaches the truth.

No offense OP, I was just being sarcastic in the other thread. But Sanders isn't better at this point than Elder Hayward. I measure a players' success on par with how their team does and how many games they win. Hayward single-handedly lead his team to the National Final last year, where as Sanders did not make the Tournament. That has a lot to do in my mind of how good a player is.
