Sheridan: Spurs front-runner to land Jefferson

This would be a smart mine for the Spurs...

This allows them to rest Duncan throughout the rest of the season making sure he is 100% for the playoffs.

Remember the Spurs ran us and the Clippers over and had a two game series lead on OKC then they ran out of gas! I think Al gives them a better chance to get to the finals!!

Splitter is great in the PnR... Too bad we don't have anybody who consistently does his thing on the other side of that equation.

The only way I see the Spurs doing this is if they are planning to bring Jeffy off the bench. Maybe he still closes games, but only if he's not dogging it. The Spurs do need to do something, imo.

I immediately thought the same thing. How could they put him in the paint next to Duncan - would probably be a mess.

Neither have guarantee dates.

Mouse over their names

In addition, on January 102 the base salary in all contracts becomes guaranteed for the remainder of that season (except for one case -- see question 65). A player must clear waivers before this date, so teams have to waive players by 5:00 PM Eastern Time on January 7th in order to have them off their rosters before January 10.

That's from Larry Coon's FAQ question #62. But either way thanks for point out that feature on shamsports (mouse over names). Hadn't figured that one out yet.

I like what Zulu said about rest. Jeffy comes off the bench and is asked to do exactly what Duncan does offensively (i know, haha, but the formal actions can still be instituted). His minutes go up and down based on Duncan's availability (and, of course, his execution).

This would work pretty well for SAS because they are well-oiled. Jefferson will know exactly what he's supposed to do.

Does my
write your jokes?

No, PKM said he's too busy. Been writing my own material as of late.

2 thoughts:

1. This trade rumor is pure speculation, drummed up by someone who's been known to say things without much evidence to send visitors to his website.

2. It makes some sense for the Jazz. Short of getting a great draft pick or an up-and-coming star, I think this is as good a move as the Jazz could make. Splitter's not a star, but I think he's a great role player -- helping both offensive efficiency and defense. Mills might be a poor-man's Mo Williams -- could be worth seeing what he could do.

Jazz would have to cut two players so that ain't happening unless the Jazz are crazy on Lorbek.

If this goes down buyout bell and give Watson a "good luck in your future endeavors" letter and hire him as a coach.

if this happens then I will physically soil myself. I love splitter and want the jazz to go after him in the offseason. btw splitter is an UFA from what I have read. jax is a waist. mills is ok.

Bob Saget (San Francisco): I cant believe the one team people thought would be active (Utah Jazz) and we havent heard a peep....
Chad Ford (1:14 PM): Then you don't know the Jazz. If a deal happens, even most of the staff in Utah will be shocked to hear it. Most "close to the vest' team in the league.

I like that Utah plays things close to the vest. To me it shows some proffesionalism. However it can be frustrating as a fan lookign for soem hope out of the damage being done to our future. I also do not like players (DWill reference) finding out any other way but directly from managment.

"Presumably they’d also ask for Tiago Splitter, because somebody would need to back up Kanter"...

At this point Splitter is better then Kanter so why would he be a backup?

I actually really like it. Our depth chart this year when healthy going forward would look like:

Williams/Mills/Tinsley
Hayward/Foye/Burks
Marvin/Demarre/Burks/Jackson
Millsap/Kanter
Favors/Splitter

We have another (4) solid front court players, but are players more adaptable to less minutes IMO. Probably minutes split between Foye/Burks/Mills at the 1 with Foye and Burks getting the bulk. Then Jackson is off the books next year so no worries there and I think Splitter is more suited for a 25 minute night than Millsap would be and hopefully would be cheaper.

Bro, Jackson would be fighting with Marvin for the starting spot at the 3. Like, literally fighting him for it.

i think mgmt was just fed up w/ DWill, which is why he heard the way he did. everyone who comes or leaves always says how professional & family oriented mgmt is.

Nothing in that package has value to the Jazz. Just a silly proposal.

Are you kidding me? We could tolerate SJax for 30 games (he's a UFA) and Mills on that cheap of a salary to get Splitter (he'd be a great 3rd big or starter alongside Favors next year) at his salary...the problem is, I don't think the salaries match up per the CBA.
