Sheridan: Spurs front-runner to land Jefferson

I'd honestly try to pry a 1st away from the Spurs. I think they'd do it. Mills and SJax are nothing to us and Splitter's an RFA. They meanwhile get a great chance at a title. If you're them, is the 30th pick really that important to you if it means a shot at the title?

This should be a sticking point for us imo.

Jefferson can't play dick besides the low post. No way Popovich tries fitting him into his high-low post, pass oriented system. Do you honestly think Jefferson can learn to stop at the arc when the low post is already occupied? Let alone read the defense and pass..

Dude can't even figure out when to pass or not over the top to cutting Tinsley who's covered by 21 combined feet of timber, or hit Foye wide open in the corner when Al's triple teamed. And then there's the issues with BigBall-n-chain sucking the life out of their efficient run and spot up offense that the second unit lives on. Again, Jefferson wouldn't be anywhere to be found for his key role in the high post.

Popovich would have to create an entirely separate offense centered around Jefferson as a backup. Ain't gonna work. Ain't gonna happen.

It sounds like a low risk offer Spurs are making.
Jackson and Mills are both expendable.
The offer may be Blair instead of Splitter.
Blair is also expendable.
Jefferson is worth the risk if that is the offer.
If Jazz can't get a better offer I would take it.
Then Favors and Kanter will get the time they need.
Mills is a young PG prospect Jazz need.
Blair would be the fourth big for fill in time.
Jackson gets cut immediately.

Why in the world we would need a very very late 1st round pick? To pick up a guy who likely won't be in the league after his rookie contract is up and pay him for 2 years?

Spurs front-runner to land Jefferson

I was going to post this in the trade deadline thread but felt it deserved it's own. Sheridan strongly suggests that the Spurs are the front runner, and obviously having Scott Layden in their front office makes me think this could have some legs. Chris thinks they've discussed a Captain Jack/Splitter/Mills swap for Big Al or something along those lines. What do you guys think?

Mills has one more deal beyond this year at just over $1m. I would love to have Splitter under a reasonable 3-4 year deal but he's expiring along with Jack (who I'm assuming would be bought out). Can you imagine Stephen Jackson in Salt Lake? *mind implodes*

great then suddenly he will play epic level defense. improve. and then come and pwn the jazz 4 times a year.

It'd be interesting to watch Jefferson on the Spurs for sure. He's never been on a contender and Popovich isn't afraid to bench people.

I like them and would like them to win it this year over okc/clippers/miami

he would suddenly and magically improve and play out of this world defense.

and people will yell the al "haters" to eat crow.
hahaha

The Jazz won't do the trade if it doesn't involve them gaining something significant. Mills, Jackson, and Blair are all insignificant pieces. The only player I could see the Jazz accepting back are Leonard (doubt the Spurs would do that) or Splitter (much more likely).

What the hell do the Jazz get out of this trade? Nothing. Keep Al, get to the playoffs and then let him walk as a free agent WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better...did I say WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY better option.

Of course, looking at the #'s, Jackson would have to be included in any package to make #'s match.

look, we would get screwed in a trade like this. i say we add millsap, too or burks and a future draft pick to get kawhi leonard. i know, they would not want to trade him but we could add solid pieces and get it done. i know, it's going to be very very difficult to get leonard.

future starting five:

??? (bledsoe or via draft?) / mills/ tinsley
hayward / foye
leonard / carroll
kanter / mawill / evans
favors / splitter

gettttt errrrrrrrr doneeeeeeeee!
thtas kinda thin upfront

Also, the Spurs have been a bad defensive team for the past couple of years. I guess they are too worried about defense, probably just want another low post offensive player to split minutes with TD to keep him fresh. Splitter is good, but Jefferson/Duncan would ensure they always have a beast down low at all times.

I like it. Though we would have to include 2 of Bell/watson/tinsley or other pieces. If it is any of those 3 then I really like this trade. It does not solve our logjam but at least it gives us a guy to re-sign when Millsap leaves and should get at least Favors more minutes.

I think it's perfect for us up front. If we can get this done and Marvin opts out, things will be falling into place.

nope

letting al go for a bag of used toilet paper is a steal.
let alone getting an actual nba player for al

Hey Jazz fans, Spurs fan here, saw this story so came to get your opinions.

First of all, Splitter is a restricted free agent this year so I suspect if this trade doesn't happen, the Spurs will match almost any deal for him.

Secondly, I'm not sure the Spurs do this deal with Tiago. We are finally starting to see good results with him in the starting line up and he is pretty much our only decent big when Duncan is resting.

However, I do think a player like Danny Green would be on the trade block. Guy is young, capable defender and can hit 3s. Would a deal of Green + Mills + Jackson (for salary) + 2013 1st rounder for Al Jeff be enough for the Jazz?

What's up Richie.

Your comment got buried because there is a waiting period for new posters. All because this dude porn bombed us one beautiful sunday afternoon.

To tell you the truth. I'm not interested in any of the players being mentioned. I'd rather sell Al for a nice pick.So ya, I'd probably rather have the pick and green over Splitter. But none of those players excite me. But we are ready for the Favors era to begin, so we just want Al gone. So any deal at this point would be good. I would think that we should be able to get more for Al then just scraps though.

Also, throw in Tomic's rights. Spurs love Euro's, so it's possible that Tomic is enough to sweeten a deal in our favor.
