Sheridan: Spurs front-runner to land Jefferson

It is crazy how much everyone ignores what a huge factor Jefferson is to the positive chemistry of this team. He has his flaws, but the hate for him on this board is beyond ridiculous. We trade Al, who is everyone's best friend, I think we sink. If we don't want him, we just need to let him leave in the offseason.

Really.....

No.. Really????

Wait, without reading the thread, you guys aren't taking this seriously, are you? The Spurs are not trading for Jefferson.

maybe lindsay is a double agent and was sent to Utah to steal our players...

oh wait we would give them al, never mind.

actually I can see this having a little teeth.

Spurs are offering a bunch of expendable players.
If Jazz agree this is a low risk deal for the Spurs.
If Jefferson is a dud Spurs don't lose much.
Spurs won't get to finals with what they have.
It's worth the risk to get Jefferson.

Everything San Antonio touches turns to gold...don't be surprised if Big Al averages 24 and 12 and wins defensive player of the year in a Spurs uniform.

also qtf.
than we meet jeffersuck(by that time known as JEFFERPWN) in the playoff and he ****s down favors and kanter combined getting a quadruple double 30 points 19 rebounds 15 blocks 11 steals.

This is your greatest piece of fantasy writing yet!

After seeing Zach Randolph transform himself from the player he was in Portland, LAC and NY to the legit scoring&rebounding force who helps you win games at a pretty high-level in Memphis – I’ll never say never about a player (even Jefferson) but I do think him playing under Popavich is the classic “something’s gotta give” battle. Remember when Utah first acquired Big Al and all the speculation was that Jefferson would have a career year because 1.) He had never played with a great PG before and 2.) Utah’s system made everyone better so it would do the same for Al offensively? Well – Al came alot closer to breaking the system than using it to become a more efficient player. We've seen San Antonio take on what I would call "non-Spurs" players in the past who didn't fit their system (Richard Jefferson being the prime example but also aging vets who couldn't defend like Glenn Robinson, Nick Van Exel, Damon Stoudamire, chuckers like Roger Mason and marginally talented hot-heads like Ime Udoka) and most of the time those players were given an opportunity and then shown the door. Could Al be more effective in a reduced role in San Antonio? Entirely possible - but who knows which way this could swing.

They're taking Al, just be thankful for that!
Not if the player coming back is Jackson. Jazz would be better off just letting Al's contract expire.

I KNEW there was a reason KOC went out and got Lindsey and gave them a double-agent (Layden) in return. I'd take Tiago in a heartbeat. He'd be a great 3rd big in case the Jazz can't, or don't want to, re-sign Millsap. I hope the rumor is true. Favors and Kanter need more minutes. Take off the governor and let those two go full speed.

i had never really thought of it before. but i am excited for al to be traded just so i can see him try and score on kanter and favors. i just can't picture it happening.

Maybe KOC killed the trade because it leaked.

Do you guys think it could have happened?

Do you think that is smart to do?

Quick question. If the Spurs trade for Al, then let him walk at the end of the year, would they have enough $$$ to sign Dwight?

Short answer is that it is not realistic. Long answer:

Spurs next year have ~$50 mil committed once they re-sign Ginobili. If they trade for Al and got rid of $15 mil they are at ~$35 mil.
The cap is $58 mil
Dwight @ max = $20.5 mil
Total $55.5 mil

The kicker is that Jackson doesn't help them, since he expires, so they would keep him if Howard is the goal. They would also need to keep Splitter, then let him walk. At that point, a realistic trade becomes the issue.

I'm pretty newb on the CBA stuff, so correct me if I'm wrong somewhere.
