Should Cody spend time in the G LEAGUE

Should Cody Williams get sent down to the Stars for a stint?

I think we need to breathe a bit with this Cody situation. There is absolutely no way to argue around the Exum comps at this point, but since we dont really know the underlying issue with his passiveness we dont really know how fixable it is. But it likely isnt something he will just snap out of.

So being all toxic or doom-and-gloom about him/his future is only harmful to our own sanity and possibly to his as well, if he is active on keeping tabs on what people discuss about him.

I'm personally just gonna stop analyzing his on-court performances for now and accept he doesnt know how to play NBA basketball at this point. The tools are still there, if he ever figures out how to use them. But its likely gonna be baby steps, and hopefully at the end of the year an optimist like myself can easily claim he at least looked way better in April than he did in November.

Cody must play. There will be a handful of nights like tonight where we win if we don't have him contribute his 10-15 minutes.

EDIT: Was gonna post this to the game thread. Not sure what happened... oh well

Collier is frustrating. He has the burst and straight line speed to get by people at the point of attack, but after that he has absolutely no idea what to do. Has zero midrange game, isn't great at shoveling passes to rolling bigs and regularly gets way too close to the basket in the trees and gets blocked, like Sexton.

The game will slow down for him eventually but he too needs a lot of work to function as an NBA pg.

The Spurs inexplicably face guarded Flip like he was Ray Allen. For the record, he's now shooting 30% from the perimeter on very low volume, pretty much the same as at Duke. From the FT line, he's at 52% (of course, he never gets to the line either). Not great.

I still like watching Flip play because he obviously understands basketball, but at some point his scoring difficulties will really start to become an issue.

He is explosive by NBA standards and also tenacious as a defender (albeit a bit gambling). If he ever figures out how to put the ball in the basket and/or how to be a low TO playmaker, he will be a keeper.

Yes it could help his development a bit with more confidence, but I say no overall because he is helping the tank.

I want to know where the Cody is we saw in the Vegas Summer League?

Cody has been getting 1 or maybe 2 shot attempts per game over the past several games. He barely touches the ball and is just not very involved.

Meanwhile, Keyonte and Collin went 3/15 on 3PAs last night, John Collins was 1/5, and no one has much of an issue with it. Our ball handlers also had an ape-ton of turnovers. Seems to me Cody could contribute some bricks and turnovers too.

Watching the Dubs JVs Stars game last night I don't think any Jazz young player would be out of place playing that competition. It also may give the Jazz front office valuable information to make a decision on a player's future.

Still not sure if this is best for his development, but certainly a terrible thing for the tank. Brice will get his chance at least.
I am not even joking when I say that Cody’s best use this season is to better secure losses. I think the G-League will probably be good for him, but I honestly feel like I’ve seen enough to know that his ceiling is that of a role player and the trade off of getting a worse pick for the honor of investing in developing a role player is a loss. You can go find role players in free agency, the G-League, and the later parts of the draft.

We need more Cody on an NBA floor getting moved like he’s not there, dribbling off his feet, and clanking open shots.
