If the Hornets land the 1st overall pick, I wonder if they would be willing to trade the Timberwolves pick for Big Al.

Big Al + Davis would be a good front-court pairing. I think they would still be able to retain Eric Gordon. I don't know how the trade would workout since they don't really have much contracts that can match Jefferson other than Okafor (rather not take that contract back, though he is a good defensive player and would expire the same time Favors and Hayward are up for new contracts).

If we did make it to where we swapped Okafor and Jefferson, I would want to do it before the order has been set, so we can still retain a sliver of hope the 10th pick jump in the top 3.

Does anyone think this is logical/fair/possible?

The league already turned down a veteran trade for Paul. As long as the league is running the show, I don't think they do anything but acquire youth. And a one year rental of Al doesn't really get them anywhere given what they have. In general, I'd be stunned if we got a lottery pick in this year's draft for anyone we have not named Favors.

Yes. I said this trade (essentially) a zillion times in which Maggs was the player coming back. He's expiring and our weakest position is the 3 imo. I'm not sure Charlotte does it though for what could be just a one year rental on Al.

The league doesn't own the Hornets anymore, where have you been?

Also, if you read the trade I proposed, they get rid of Okafor's contract which has 1 more year than Jefferson's, allowing them to compete in the 2013 FA. Jefferson is younger than Okafor by 3 years, so this is acquiring youth.

Your trade had us getting a future from Charlotte, no? That would be harder because they are still going to suck *** next year. It would have to be protected most likely, which would just give us a late lottery pick in a weaker draft.

I missed all NBA news for like 2 months while I was trying to catch up to my DVR. So I'll have to google this. As for the trade, I didn't pick up that Okafor had another year. I'd never do that. Every decision we make should be oriented around having maximum cap space in 13.

And I often said protected first. Who cares? Are you really gonna turn down some gold if you won't get it til 2016?

Jefferson is an expiring contract and a consistent-threat, who puts up all-star-type numbers. I would keep him and the rest of the 4 Bigs, but if Utah hasn't improved and isn't in Top 6 playoff contention, then I would trade him at the trade deadline.

Al's gotta go. 1. He's not efficient 2. Horrible defense 3. Can't run P&R 4. Loser attitude

Anything else? Oh yeah. He's gotta go as quick as possible before he has time to have more influence on Kanter & Favors and show them his wussy no-contact "post moves." He's already said Kanter & Favors are joining him in Santa Barbara for workouts over the summer. That scares me.

Holy ****, this is the most lopsided poll I've ever seen! With my vote that brings the tally to:

Yes - 75 votes (91.46%)
No - 7 votes (8.54%)

And yes, I voted yes.

I've said it all along.. Al Jefferson hurts this team more than he helps this team. I've got a list:

- Awful help defender and absolutely atrocious in pick and roll situations. Al got abused like a red-headed stepchild vs. San Antonio (and many, MANY times throughout the regular season).
- Almost never gets to the free-throw line. He avoids contact when he should be looking to create contact. More important than getting to the line is getting the opposing big men in foul trouble. By getting the opposing players in foul trouble they (the opponents) will be less aggressive on defense and allow Al for easy baskets.
- Okay, so this is partially (mostly, I think) Corbin's fault but... 80% of the time the plays are ran for a post up for Al and it hurts to overall flow of the game. You've got to get others involved. Even when Al is having an off night they still keep going to him. Dumb.

I like Al, I really do. He's a nice guy and all but, for the sake of this franchise's future, he has got to go.

*EDIT*

I almost forgot the single biggest reason why Al needs to go:

While I voted yes, billyshelby touched on why it's unlikely. The Jazz aren't preparing for the '12 off season. They're preparing for the '13 off season. That's another reason why not getting picks this year isn't bad at all. The flexibility with two likely draft picks and a tremendous amount of cap room gives the Jazz an advantage, and I doubt KOC is going to jeopardize that flexibility just to trade Al Jefferson. I'm sure the Jazz would trade Jefferson under specific scenarios. The only contracts the Jazz would likely take that were more than a year are rookie contracts, or at the very least, ones with team options and are under 5 mil a year.

The Jazz would likely take draft picks for Jefferson as well. This opens the trade market up having a bunch of draft picks, especially ones drawn out over a period of years to hold their value (to prevent sandbagging because other teams know a team isn't keeping four draft picks in one year).

Teams looking for a Jefferson player are likely teams out of the playoffs this year looking for offense. Cleveland is the best candidate. They have cap room, Casspi on a rookie deal, and lots of draft picks. Jazz could get a very similar package they used to trade for Jefferson if Cleveland was willing to do so.

Interesting. If we really think we can make a splash in the 2013 FA, then it may be smart to just let them expire.

If we trade Al, who replaces him? I remember the joy when Al replaces Booz as a Jazzman. Now we want him gone. I would love to upgrade at every position, inlcuding Al's, but trading Al in no ways means that will happen. Worst thing to happen to an NBA player is come to Utah and be something close to a 20 and 10 guy because the fans will hate you. And no I don't believe Kanter is even close to being ready.

al leaving is addition by substraction.
no more weak defense.
nor more stagnation

??? What are you smoking???

Jefferson is essentially the same player as Kaman (more or less). Kaman is taller, can definitely score in the post (torched us several times this year). They even tried to unload Kaman this year for draft picks.

So why on earth would they not just re-sign him, instead of giving up a #14 pick for a 1 year rental of Big Al?
