Should the nba go to 3 round draft?

Nothing you said makes any sense. Are these undrafted players tilting the balance of the league? I'm pretty sure Utah is better with undrafted players than most teams. You put in more drafts you are just letting teams hold onto rights of guys while they play overseas, preventing them from coming over to teams who would actually want to sign them.
The undrafted free agent thing is the like the smallest reason to do the expansion of the draft. Primarily, I would use the expanded draft to fill out GLeague rosters and deal with compensatory picks.

There is no other way to even try to even out the playing field. The bought out player disparity needs addressing. An expanded draft does that.

They’re trying to keep it secret from Tony because they don’t want anyone to find out they’re getting their ideas from message boards.
Also @Handlogten's Heros, I believe Tony had a conversation with his source in the FO and asked them "are you guys scouring the league, looking for other moves?" and the FO source said "we're looking and we like Dunn," but Tony heard this as "we're looking like we're done."

Always read between the lines on these things. Occam's razor.

This makes 0 sense. The draft doesn't make opportunities, it diminishes them.

Unless you're suggesting every pick gets a guaranteed contract
I’d actually like to see this happen. Every 2nd round draft picks gets a 2 year guaranteed contract, while every 3rd round pick gets a guaranteed 2way contract. Only the top 15 contracts (plus any dead money from waived players) counts towards the salary cap. They still get paid - even if they only play in the G-League. No more G-League draft. Have every single player under contract with an NBA team.

Bingo. Great post.

Bro there is a G-League draft to fill out the G-League rosters.

Please extrapolate?

NBA teams dont want to give guaranteed contracts out to 2nd/3rd round draft picks. Guys drafted after 50 hardly ever do jack-**** in the NBA. You think 3rd round players going to do anything?

NBA players union doesnt want a 3rd round because it limits player freedom of movement. The only real reason we even have a 2nd round is because there are still worthwhile prospects (generally speaking) in the first half of the 2nd round.

Would fringe players be able to develop better as part of an NBA farm team vs overseas?

I'm guessing slightly, but not worth the cost.

I agree they don't want to give guaranteed contracts, but I think they would love the idea of having the rights on more players.

This all comes down to the GLeague. If it can become a true minor league for the NBA, it's a no brainer to expand the draft. It would help to market those teams in those cities. It becomes a true breeding ground for future NBA players. I bet more and more high school players would join in as they wait to be drafted. Some players will have their rights owned by teams, but many won't.

It could be great.

The G League is already a true minor league...

Just cuz two teams are too cheap doesnt make it not a minor league system.
C'mon man. If every team doesn't even have their own affiliate, it can't be a minor league.

2 Rounds of the draft is plenty without it, but once every team has one, expand the draft to help market the minor league.

Why? If a team doesnt want to pay the cost of having a team that doesnt take away from what the others teams do with their teams.

Also, I'm assuming the minor league system in baseball is able to function the way it does because the world-wide demand for baseball players is probably much lower than basketball players. They are going to be more easily forced into ****** paying jobs with lower mobility options.

Sort of annoyed we didn’t make a play for the Italian guy @Saint Cy of JFC touted.

Ingles is older and might retire. Gay is older. Bogey will be 33 before the season ends and seems like a guy who could be moved at some point or not reupped.

I guess they could expand the draft and two franchises could share a GLeague team.

My opinion is that the Gleague doesn't have a strong following because people don't truly know what it is. There are minor league baseball fans who support their AAA or AA team because they know it's part of the larger club.

It's hard for the GLeague to market their product, and I think it would be easier if every NBA team has an affiliate. Just look at the popularity of the summer league. Those games average over 600,000 views per game. How many people watch GLeague? I truly don't know. If it's substantially less, then maybe tie in the appeal of the Summer League with the GLeague.

That and they basically pay the players less than minimum wage.
