None of that's true though.I guess they could expand the draft and two franchises could share a GLeague team.
My opinion is that the Gleague doesn't have a strong following because people don't truly know what it is. There are minor league baseball fans who support their AAA or AA team because they know it's part of the larger club.
It's hard for the GLeague to market their product, and I think it would be easier if every NBA team has an affiliate. Just look at the popularity of the summer league. Those games average over 600,000 views per game. How many people watch GLeague? I truly don't know. If it's substantially less, then maybe tie in the appeal of the Summer League with the GLeague.
AAA minor league baseball can have higher attendance because it's actually close to being the 2nd/3rd best league in the world and a lot of the best prospects will actually play there because the learning curve in baseball is extremely high compared to the other major sports. AA baseball's average attendance is right in line with the G-League's average attendance (pre-covid numbers). Attending baseball games is also much more of a "vibe" than attending a basketball game . A large part of the schedule also happens during the summer when people have time off during the day to just go catch a game.
The G-League will never be as "farmy" as Minor League Baseball. The best young NBA propsects dont need the G-League for the most part once they get drafted. The League's only avenue to gain a larger popularity share of the sports world is for more Jalen Green/Jonathan Kuminga's to use the G-League Elite route.
And a lot of teams dont care about marketing their G-League team. Utah wouldnt place the Stars in SLC if they cared. They would put them in some other Utah city. They want them there for the easy G-League assignment player movement.
