A small idea that I find intriguing. Not certain I'd do it yet and might not agree to it until draft day when I've seen who's around at the #9 slot, but I believe given the trading partner that it could be agreed to on the spot next week.
Utah trades #9 to Memphis.
Memphis trades #12 and #25 to Utah.
Why for Memphis: Utah can credibly claim to be interested in Luke Babbitt. Memphis wants Luke Babbitt (per Chad Ford's piece today as well as draftexpress). Memphis has three picks in the first round. Even after the trade they still have #9 and #28 so the cost of doing business isn't too high for them and they get the guy they want.
Why for Utah: Depending on whom you believe between Chad Ford, Draftexpress, or nbadraft.net, it appears that either Cole Aldrich or Xavier Henry will fall to #12. Both players (pending the outcome of the present Big Board vote) appear to be favored over Babbitt at least on this board. If the front office feels the same way they can collect an additional first rounder and still come up with a better outcome than Babbitt.
The #25 pick could have a number of prospects the Jazz have already worked out, such as Larry Sanders and Damion James. Or we could probably get Archie's favorite Dwayne Wade type scorer Willie Warren.
While I know we generally poo-poo trade threads I think this one is a lot more realistic than most. Feel free to let me know if I'm crazy for thinking so.
