What's new

Snyder got out coached tonight.

Bunch of dumbasses in this thread.

Our offensive rating was 120 tonight, and was not why we lost this game.

Agree. When all of your defense all year is predicated on having an anchor who is not there I don't know how you are supposed to win. We don't have anyone that is healthy that can do even a mild impression of what Gobert does.

Exum has had deer in headlights look almost all season. I'm sure he totally would have come into an intense playoff game and shut down the best pg in the game... he literally would have pooped himself.

.

Withey got a DNP. With Rudy out and Favors playing on one knee, and rim protection obviously being a huge problem, Withey gets a DNP.

I thought it was pretty obvious after the last loss that Quin needed to play Withey more. Instead he plays him less.

I didn't watch the game, so I can't speak as to him being outcoached, but this does seem like a pretty obvious call with Rudy out.

Minus whatever happened in the fourth and getting absolutely screwed by the officials (that huge Hayward no call at about 3:30 left pissed me the most off), but a couple things:

1. Diaw 1 rebound in 24 minutes and he was playing center. He's playoff experienced. I get it. Trying something new is a possible liability. I get it. How big of a liability is an out of shape 6'8" guy who can shoot, rebound or defend? He's got great experience, makes great passes and is a great teammate, but there are many situations where he's also a liability. I've argued since the offseason that we needed a real backup who can rebound because Lyles and Diaw off the bench is a very discomplementariously bad tandem, but we rolled forward as if he could play the 5.

2. On what was to be the last possession with ~5 seconds, Ingles inbounds the ball and Diaw is on the floor? Why isn't Diaw inbounding the ball? He's good at passing and terrible at shooting.

I'm thinking the same about the last possession with 3.3 seconds....why Diaw or Ingles didn't inbound the ball? I understand the pressure of the game but these little details can make the difference.

Where the hell was Withey? Did the Millers tell Quinn to sit him? No way we win another game with a gassed Favors.

Jazz can't rebound without Gobert. Not much that Quin can do about it without messing up the offensive flow. It's pretty sad that we didn't draft Booker over Trey Lyles.

Fixed

I agree we need to spell Favors off, but one thing I liked about the game was that they came out with a definite game-plan. IMO they just fell away from it under the Clippers' pressure. And we needed to have Neto stay out there and do nothing more than absolutely FLOOR CP3 once or twice just to shake him up a bit and take him out of his rhythm, which is what Ingles was so successful at in the first quarter, throwing something at CP3 he didn't expect. In the 4th we just decided to watch the PnR clinic going on rather than, you know, actually attempt to defend it.

I do think Snyder made some key mistakes. I did not like how long he let the 2nd team play in the 2nd quarter. I think Hayward was out too long it took him out of his rhythm and it showed as he couldn't do anything in the 2nd quarter. With a 21 point first they needed to ride his adrenaline and hot hand and keep him in longer. If they had made their subs just 2 minutes earlier in the 2nd I think it would have made a huge difference. As it was we allowed their big 3 time on the floor against our 2nd unit which allowed them to get into their flow, while our 1st unit took a few minutes of their own to finally get going, hence the evaporation of the lead in the 2nd. That one change may have made the difference in the game.

Also I think Snyder needed to adjust better to the PnR in the 4th. There is something to be said about a star player imposing his will, but by hell I want to see EVERY defender on CP3 use their fouls in taking him out of the flow. Grab pull hold push. Don't give him the lanes, swipe at the ball. Hell Neto had 6 fouls to give that could have disrupted their offense enough to stop the bleeding. Same with Whithey on DJ.

But a solid load of this loss is on the players. The 4th quarter they started playing the stand-around-and-watch offense, little ball movement, mostly ISOs against a team with one of the best paint protectors in the league. Can't win like that.

Plenty of blame to go around. Let's just hope that Griffin being out has as big an impact on them as Rudy does on us. I don't think it will because they played enough without him during the regular season they know how to weather that particular storm.

And let's hope we get Rudy back soon. We can still win this but not with 1/4 of a front court (Favors = .5 of a player right now, Diaw+Johnson = .75 of a player right now, so 1.25 out of 5 guys realistically when we don't have Rudy and Whithey stays on the pine).

Snyder's coaching has kept us competitive in this series. We can't win if we go scoreless for six minutes in the fourth and we definitely can't win with Derrick Favors getting 2 points.

I think Snyder has outcoached Doc pretty thoroughly this series, which is one of the only reasons why the Clippers haven't been blowing us out without Rudy.

I question a lot of Snyders decision in game 2 and 3 but it is hard to complain about being 1-2 and in the two losses being close with your best player out. If we were fully healthy and they were missing CP3 I would be surprised if we were not up 3-0. I would say the same for every team in the NBA except Warriors. They can survive down their best player whether that is Durant or Curry. But any of the other teams I think would be down 0-3 without their best player.

The clippers were running a high pick and roll with CP3 and DJ all night. That play is why they caught up and took the lead. Snyder had no answer for it all night.
