Something specific to watch for with Kanter

While watching him in practices at UK, he had the same issues with the bunnies around the rim. What Calipari quickly figured out is that Kanter is much better when he is gotten the ball around 8' out, rather than under the rim. (Obviously I'm not talking about offensive rebounds/putbacks, not am I saying we should be feeding the ball, fwiw)

When Cal had his guards get Enes the ball where he had a little more room to operate, his footwork really started to shine. Maybe this is why Cal compared him to Malone rather than a center??

Kanter is very crafty, offensively, when he has a little more room. I'm in no hurry to see him thrown to the wolves, just an observation I thought someone may want to watch for in the future.

He'll learn. The good thing is that he has the ability. If he has the work ethic, he'll develop that offensive aspect of his game. He didn't look too good in the paint tonight, but it was nice to see him using weapons like the hook. Nice to see him play some decent D and pull down double digit rebounds.

In before "should have taken Jonas".

He also stalls transition offence when rebounds the ball. He grabs the ball and then look scared like a rabbit without a clue what to do with it. He stays with this ball in his hands in own paint while the rest of the team is already on another half of the court.

That's a super easy fix with him. No worries there at all.

I think if he was gonna go up, at least go up strong. You can still pump fake, but go up strong, i.e., dunking rather than just laying it up. I think he was decent as his first NBA game, showed he has a nose for the ball. He's definitely big enough to play in the NBA. He also showed good footwork, unfortunately the finishing let him down.

5/10 for me.

Also I haven't seen that super soft touch around the rim. All the shots he took being not directly under the rim looked like they were thrown towards the rim direction, not shot properly.

something specific I noticed is his eyes twitch like crazy when he is all fired up nervous.Kid just needs time for the game to slow down,he is playing too hyped still which is expected.

Gasol scored on him every time he got the ball. I was relieved he didn't let Josh McRoberts score on him, but I wouldn't call what he did decent D.

He had some nice plays that eased a lot of my concerns. That play ending the half where he made Kobe miss taking it to the hoop was sweet. Yes, Gasol scored on the putback, but that wasn't on Enes. Considering rookie nerves and that this was his first real test, I was very encouraged.

Jefferson had a couple of blocked shots on Gasol and more than a handful of stops actually. Most of it was early.

I wasn't really disappointed in Jefferson's #'s, because I think he just had a rough day not getting any calls or bounces. I was super disappointed in his body language though. When Millsap gets his stuff swatted, or doesn't get a call, he just runs back and goes harder next time. Jefferson has a tendency to hang his head.

So, you expected a 19-year-old rookie playing in his first game to stop one of the most skilled and experienced PFs in the NBA?

No, but I'm not going to give him sugar coated praise like "Oh, he played decent defense because he blocked Josh McRoberts shot on a one on one post up".
