Something specific to watch for with Kanter

Kanter is the least of the team's worries. Looks like he'll be able to grab 10 rebounds a night in his sleep. His defense is average, but still better than advertised. The Jazz have such poor spacing right now Kanter has virtually no room to show off any of his footwork. There were 2-3 Lakers grabbing at the ball every time.

You can trust PKM on this. I have watched him almost five years, he has a rich offensive repertoire. With time you'll be surprised with his offensive works. He will be a consistent double double producer in a few years.

Hey, wait! Don't say he can't be. Just wait...

Gasol scored on him every time he got the ball. I was relieved he didn't let Josh McRoberts score on him, but I wouldn't call what he did decent D.

Disagree, he got several deflections and played physical D. I dont think Gasol scored on him everytime but thats a tough first matchup for Kanter

Damn, you guys act like just because I'm saying he didn't play decent D today, I'm in turn saying he will forever be a crappy defender.

I'm not giving Kanter the rookie curve, I'm judging everyone on the same level of play. His interior defense against the only good interior Lakers play (Gasol) was poor. Bottom line.

Fair enough.

If he were a vet, like Gasol, then he didn't play average d. Though, I think the rest of us were, in fact, considering his age/experience/rust factor/etc.

If a rookie big in his first game plays a good defense on the likes of Josh McRoberts he deserves to be praised.

Josh McRoberts blows terribly. He has no one on one game at all. He is good because he is a very quick and athletic 4 man who can dunk in the open court, or if you forget he is on the court. If Kanter had gotten shook, like he did on a similar face-up move by Gasol, I would have been hysterical.

Josh McRoberts is your typical average PF in the NBA. If a 19-year-old rookie steps on the court in his first game and is ready to defend an average player at his position he is a pretty solid defender.

And if Pau Gasol could be even moderately slowed down by rookies playing their first games he would not be the 6th highest paid player in the NBA.

Couple question for people who have watched Kanter since birth.

1. Where is the mid-range game? I feel like it would improve our offense a lot if he at least acted like he was thinking about shooting it. I know he can shoot because he has a pretty FT form and I see him draining them. If he could start hitting 15-20 footers that would really open up his offense and the team's offensive flow.

2. What the hell is that thing he does with the ball when he gets it at the elbow then starts to spazz chest the ball in and out repeatedly?

Like previously stated, I'm not grading any player on a rookie scale. This is not future evaluations. This is today's evaluation.

1. I don't know that his number will be called for jumpers. Too bad, at least we could see something worth watching. He does have that game though, for sure.

2. It's called a zswyieghy. He's mimmicking a Turkish Peahen mating dance and it's Enes' way of making fun of the defenders and getting them to bite so he can spin to the hoop .. problem is most guys in the NBA don't know the Turkish Peahen mating dance.

So that explains my pumping urges, thnx.

Trying not to get caught up in the Kanter homers vs. Kanter haters clash. But all about we do know at this point is that he can rebound the basketball. Nice to have at least one skill you can be potentially elite at. How the rest of his game will come along it'll take years to see. But right now he's not going to get bailed out with the calls that he got in Europe, rookies don't get calls in this league, it's going to be a tough lesson for him to learn this season.
