i would prefer miles to be a backup instead of starting SG or SF. Hayward should be the starting SG and we should find another solution for SF (if AK will not stay)

Meh every year someone says they "worked hard" or "Lost a alot of weight during the off season...... So noone else caught that last part about "former Jazz guard Ronnie Price. " What is that all about?

Well, he's not under contract.

If CJ still parties, drinks way too much, chucks, plays no defense, and sits out games with hangovers, I could care less how much he weighs. He's still the same ol catch'n'jack who's more happy to just be in the league living off Jazz welfare than determined to be the best player for the Jazz.

Exactly.

How many times did we hear that AK had either improved or had put on more weight?

When their play got worse, they became more injury prone, and they were worse and worse for the Jazz?

Has everyone forgotten it is a contract year for CJ? I am sure that is part of his motivation. I certainly remain skeptical until I see and improved CJ on the court. Personally, I think CJ's main problem is his head. I think he lacks confidence and gets down on himself. It is time to grow up and toughen up and play hard.

I think Hayward, Burks, CJ and Millsap are being considered for the SF position. I think the Jazz are fine with that rotation knowing how many SF there will be in next years draft. Why sign other guy knowing he will take away minutes from our two young guys Hayward and 2012 draft pick.

@cowhide- I like what you are saying but I disagree. At first the problem with CJ Miles was his lack of confidence. For the first 3 or 4 years, its all we heard about. Nowadays, its the opposite. CJ Miles has WAY TOO MUCH confidence. All of a sudden he thinks he's Kevin Durant or Micheal Jordan... scratch that... he thinks he's CJ MILES DAMNIT! Don't believe me? Go watch the Heat game again. Look at CJ Miles hoist up that game winner and then watch Millsap bail him out. Watch the Sundiata Gaines clip, look at CJ Miles face and how disappointed he is that it wasn't him who hit the game winner.

CJ has way too much confidence.

The other thing...breakout years and contract years are a myth. David Locke ran statistics on contract years, players don't perform all that much better during contract years. And breakout years are very rare... after 5 years of CJ Miles, I think we know what we are gonna get. He might be a little bit better than Bryon Russell was, but I don't ever see him getting more then 15-17ppg.

CJ, if you read this site, here are my goals for you. If you can't reach them, then **** you. It's about quality, not quantity.

25 mpg, 14.0 points on 46% from the field, 38% from three and 82% from the line with 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.0 steal, 0.5 blocks, and 3.0 free throw attempts.

These are reasonable and attainable. You've had a particular season when you've been better with your field goal percentage, three point percentage and free throw percentage but now it's time to put it all together for one solid season.

1. CJ Miles does not control his MPG
2. Asking 46% from a SG is pretty high, if he could do that, while averaging 14 points, I would be ecstatic. I think more realistic is 43%-45%.
3. I agree, his 3 point shooting needs to go up. I would be pleased with 35%. I know he has the ability, didn't Hayward and Millsap both say he would win a 3pt contest among Jazz players?

Everything else should be reasonably attainable though for 25 mpg he will probably get. Someone bagged on his rebounding earlier in the thread, but he is actually a pretty good rebounder for a SG/SF. I suspect Miles will have a better year this year. Last year was a hectic year for everyone, and he had to try to be more of a scorer than he was capable of. Miles is who he is though, a streak shooter/scorer. I know he drives some fans crazy, but I think he is an overall good player relative to his price tag.

I wouldn't call CJ's increase chucking confidence. I would say CJ probably felt like he was free to do what he wanted once Sloan was gone. The coaches also told him that his scoring was needed off the bench. I still saw a lot of pouting and shaking of the head when he was not making his shots. I think CJ does show confidence when he plays well, but the problem is he is inconsistent with his confidence which leads him to give less of an effort. Nevertheless, I think CJ increase in "chucking/confidence" resulted in having Sloan gone.

I haven't seen the statistical analysis of contract years but it does seem like certain players definitely play better when they are up for a contract. So maybe there is no statistical data to backup my opinion but I've seen enough players play better when they know a contract is a factor (Ostertag, Amaechi,). I guess I am just skeptical of the CJ lost weight or AK gain muscle stories because it seems like the two remained basically the same player over their careers. I hope I am wrong about CJ but my patience has been tested enough. I 'll remain skeptical until he shows it on the court.

Well put. I'm probably more optimistic since I think CJ is going to have a breakout year. My guess is he averages 33 minutes, 18 pts, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Ughhh. I'm too lazy to look up stats, but I'd bet lefty that CJ took more shots per game playing for Jerry than he did for TY.

Where's GVC?

CJ shot less per minute on the court last year AFTER Jerry left (15.8 v. 16.9 FGA/36m). Your last sentence at least makes sense, since CJ was generally a starter after Jerry left (starting 18 of his 27 games)as opposed to a bench player before (1 start in 51 games).

I hadn't even read your post until after I replied to cowhide...weird.

The stats are easy to find on basketball reference. If you go to CJ's game logs, and click on the red number to the left, the site will sum stats to the game selected (represented by said number). It took about 2 minutes to look up these stats.
