What's new

Sounds Like the Blake Ahearn Experiment is Over

I'd say it's a combination of:
1. Ahearn showed he could work with the rest of the Jazz team and contribute if his number is called.
2. KoC couldn't find anyone else out there who was clearly better.

I hate to say it but it's Ty's fault, you bring him up bench the guy then put him up against Dirk on his first game? Really? Then take him out. It's like setup for failure right there. But yeah I agree he doesn't belong.

I loled.

Seriously though, who else were they going to sign? The just need a warm body to take a few minutes in the rotation. My guess is that as long as he doesn't turn over the ball or take horrible shots, that's all they can really hope for.

Would be seriously cool if Jeff Hornacek could play a few minutes. That would be a bit like a Star Trek Generations scenario.

My wife will be excited to hear this news! She was saying last night that he has 4 kids and she wanted him to get a good paycheck. Anyone know how much a 10 day contract gets you?

I would think it's probably somewhere in the 20-30K range. Which is about as much money as he makes in a year.

Damn .. I'd be pissed right now. Make me dribble around pass a ball, jump and stuff .. $20,000 .. do NOT waste my time.

(okay, no class, I know .. cool for the guy to put himself in position to make the money for his family.. wish he could have lit it up.

Even though they are called 10-day contracts I believe the players are still paid per game. Minimum salary if this were a full season is $473,604, so divide that by 82 games = $5,776 per game.

5 games on his first 10-day contract = $28,878.
3 games left this season = $17,327 to keep him the rest of the way.
Not a bad way to make $46K in 3 weeks.

Players aren't normally paid extra salary for the playoffs, but I wonder if that's different for a guy like Ahearn who just barely signed. Not sure.

EDIT: Scratch those numbers, he's not a rookie. Shows how much attention I've paid, right?

Minimum salary if this were a full season is $854,389 (third year player), so divide that by 82 games = $10,419 per game.

5 games on his first 10-day contract = $52,097.
3 games left this season = $31,258 to keep him the rest of the way.
Make that $83K in three weeks.

My wife will be happy to hear this.

Good on Blake!!

His towel around the neck skills during crunch time is something you can't teach. Great move Jazz!

He showed he could shoot at Reno. Hopefully he lets things slow down, relax a little and contribute to the next three wins. Perhaps if he got going against the Suns, it would force Nash to chase around after him and tire little old Stevie out.
