So, I've been reading a ton of Stephen King recently. I read the whole Dark Tower Series (the 7 main books. I haven't read the Wind Through the Keyhole yet...I'm just not ready to be done with Roland and his katet, and reading that will end the story). Also, the Dark Tower ended perfectly. Loved the ending. I listened to the Mercedes Killer Trilogy, and that was ok. I just finished Dolores Clairborne, which was interesting, but I didn't like how there wasn't a real point to it. No bad guy. Just the story of how a lady is driven to kill her husband.
Anyhow, I just stared The Stand and It.
Pennywise...holy, sweet mother of the son of the grandest. I've seen the movies...but...wow. That dude is terrifying. And I haven't even really gotten started on the story yet. All Pennywise has taken is Georgie and Adrian...and ate his freaking heart. Holy crap.
Another interesting thing I've noticed is that a lot of these books are written 20+ years ago. In some ways it's awesome how far we have come as a society with some of the social issues out there...in some ways it's sad how we still have some of the same problems. BUT, it is almost comforting to read through some of the political turmoil being presented (not as a main theme, just a sentence here or there) throughout some of the stories.
Why?
Because, 20+ years ago, they were debating the same things we were, and they were talking about the end of the world and the end of the US, just the same we are...and yet, here we are, better than we were then, but still whining about the same stuff.
Ha ha. Eternal progression, right?
Anyways, am loving It. And it's crazy reading The Stand and watching how quickly a virus can just wipe out a nation. So shocking...yet, it could happen. Crazy.
