Still don't believe in evolution? Try this!

Personally, I take the whole day thing as symbolic.

90%+ of biblical scholars agree, the metaphor and the meaning is solid. The US has more than its share of orthodox literal interpreters.

The irony is even they are interpreting the bible, it is just that their interpretation they very as "the correct" interpretation. They are missing a lot about how much human input went into the compilation of the bible and writing and rewriting. The notion that there is no subjective human elements is simply historically incorrect.

.Those who don't believe in god won't be persuaded by evidence. They hold such opinion because they believe it to be more compatible with their belief system. If mountains of evidence across so many disciplines fail to impress them, another sign from God certainly won't...

Nice twist. Problem with that there is not a single evidence. See, I would have no problem in believing in God if anybody would provide any evidence. Since there is none I can't believe it. Same like unicorns, fairies or vampires. Legend until proven otherwise.

you are right. 0.14% of scientists in the world questioning evolution.

0.14% of scientists in relevant fields don't believe in evolution? As tiny as this number is, it is still very hard to believe. You'd pretty much have to be demented.

A year ago I said your opinions were so predictably on the side of the Christian right, and you responded by saying you were agnostic. It's nice to see that you discovered so much evidence for the existence of God. I bet your belated discoveries also confirmed the universe was created by the Christian God specifically. It's amazing how your honest pursuit of the truth confirmed your previous worldview even though you were totally agnostic!

Agreed.

I'd like to add that those 10 percent who believe in literal meanings of the bible are sadly some of the most well funded and outspoken. They tend to drown out others.

Just google the author of the NY Times best seller "Left Behind." He takes this to a whole new meaning. He takes the visions of Revelation, makes them literal, and then adds his own extremely violent imagination to it. Literally, dragons will be trying to eat pregnant women, the anti-Christ (head of the UN) will be exposed, and people will be fighting and exploding with swords. It's pretty graphic when he talks about The Power of God exploding peoples brains and chest cavities.

Left Behind has sold millions of copies. It exploits on the fear seen by biblical literalists so powerful in America today. Folks like John Rushdooney, Pat Robertson, and Paul Couch have certainly risen above the 90 percent of rational believers.

Thats number of total scientists I got from Wiki. Maybe they included theology as science as well, not sure...Behe is a scientist right? ...demented one, I agree.

I'm sure glad we are using an old *** fictional book of analogys and interpreting them to an absolute truth we live by and have to obey by a second coming deadline to have eternal salvation.
Wait.. I better do this before I'm Damned to eternity

Excellent point.

In my experience, 99 percent of Christians have no idea how or when the "book" was written. They feel like it started in genesis, was composed by a few authors, and written in chronological order until the last "book" of revelation.

They have no idea about scrolls, the various interpreters, the analogies adopted from rival religions nearby (ie Zoroastrianism), and that the "book" is missing several other key gospels and "books." Some... Were just plain left out because it contradicted the primary religion (Catholicism) which canonized the Bible.

It is unfortunate that some of those gospels never made it to the Bible. Can you imagine if they decided to include the Gospel of Thomas, where mischievous child Jesus goes around turning people to zombies and statues for pissing him off? That would have been simply amazing! At least parts of it made it into the Quran, like when Jesus made living birds out of clay.

1)You should post "fixed" and bold what you changed when you alter someone's quote.

2)Let's test your position.

Provide mountains of evidence and let's see of it impresses me. That is if you do in fact have mountains of evidence for the existence of god.

3)I don't care if you believe in god. I do care if you want to retard scientific progress in our society because you are uncomfortable reconciling the truth with your beliefs. For instance we can see **** that is more than 13 billion light years away. In a universe that was only 6k years old there would not have been enough time for the light from most stars to reach us. If you can reconcile your beliefs to accept that the universe is at least 13 and a half billion years old then ok. If on the other hand you wish to silence/condemn the teachers that share this knowledge then not ok.

****. I'll take ANY evidence. I mean actual evidence, not "pray and you will feel his love in your heart" or "isn't the beauty of sunsets evidence enough?". Just a single actual, unequivocal piece of evidence for the existence of ANY kind of god. Doesn't even have to be the Christian God.

Could you imagine a gospel that unveiled that apostles or even Christ himself were married? He entire Catholic Church would have to change.

I was simply pointing out that as militant as AKMVP thinks the Christian right is about there being a god he is just as militant about there not being a god. My response had nothing to do with my beliefs on the subject.

If God is all powerful then he can do anything.

Compelling comment btw.

There is no need for a compelling comment when talking to religious folk

All I feel is pity that an adult would believe in something as ludicrous as 'god'

That's the spirit!

Bold strategy!

Mostly not unoriginal.

It is natural selection. Which means that the fittest within a population survives, because it fundamentally has an advantage to survive.

...so it survives, but a cat NEVER turns into a dog, a croc-agator doesn't sprout wings and become a bird, and a fish with lungs.....never becomes a human being!
