What's new

Stranger Things

I was thinking that, too, but here's how I figure it: There's no way you could do a different story with those kids, it would just seem too contrived, and, well, you don't want to lose those kids. They're freaking gold.

Well, the best one is already gone. I hope they move on to a different location with different characters.

You mean it wasnt just a worthless rip-off?
To be fair I should have watched a few more episodes before writing about it.

The plot as a whole still feels to me like a rip off of Metropolis (especially the ending) and the setup and style isn't new. But granted there is also enough originality there too with the story about the upside down.. etc. But it is so well made that you can sorta look past it.

Alternate universe is unique?

Amazing show.

They nailed the whole 80's thing. I hate it when "time period" shows are lazy about it and you kind of forget it's a time period show half way through.

The kid with the messed up teeth is the best.

Weren't you born in the 90's?

Truth^

But yeah, I didn't mean that I was thinking all the details about the 80's were perfect (I don't remember the 80's) I just mean they did a really good job of having it consistently feel like a certain time period throughout the show. I can't think of a show that has done it better really.

There were some phrases the kids used that were not really used in the 80's. They got some things wrong. They hit the D&D pretty close to most games I played, but they really overdid it even for that supposed age of kid. I started playing at about that exact age and we were pretty animated about our games but not to the level of yelling at each other. I liked the show overall though. Didn't want it to end when it did. I am binge watching Vikings now. I like it a lot.

Finale was pretty garbage.

Loved the show overall for the nostalgia of it and doing a pretty good job of portraying the 80s.

It was clearly time for it to end but they really didn't go out strong. Oh well.

Kid are going to have gray hair by the time it ends. Zero reason to not have wrapped it up this season.

Season finale was subpar. Overlong by at least an hour and sick of the plot armor given to the main players when the show is so afraid of killing someone off.

Reminds me a bit of the series Lost where they had a phenomenal, concentrated idea that could have guided them through three tightly controlled seasons and end with a natural story arc, but they just keep tossing in more needlessly. How many ****ing times does Eleven need to be reminded of what makes her strong? What purpose does Hopper and the adults serve at this point (Russian prison angle should never have been stretched the whole season). Just lazy storytelling.

Season finale or series finale?

I thought that was it for the series.

Turns out there is going to be a season 5. I don't know how I feel about that. This season already felt tired. Don't those kids want to get started on the rest of their careers?

This guy sums it all up really well.

"They escape from the prison. Then they get caught and escape again! Then they have to go back and....you know...escape again!"
