Summer 2015: FIBA games of Utah Jazz players

I only caught bits and pieces of the game, but they aren't using Rudy offensively at all, especially when Parker is not playing, who will penetrate and dish to Rudy. I saw Batum brick several shots that he could've given it up to Rudy for better shots. At the same time, Rudy doesn't look for short jumpers inside the foul line which are very available to him if he just pulls up. But apparently he hasn't developed that part of his game. I hope the Jazz coaches see that and get him to start practicing those 8-10 foot jumpers that he can get all night without any problem.

Such a choke job.. I really don't like Germany's coaching.

The shot selection has been nothing short of horrendous in the final minutes. Like you'd see in an AAU or Highschool game..

Germany regained the lead with jumpshots and just continued chucking them up.

Germany is coached by Chris Fleming. He's a Nuggets assistant coach, so maybe that's why.

I think most of this board is overrating just how good Rudy is. I doubt we see any offensive improvement from him this season and that he has a slight drop in his defensive presence either because of foul trouble or him buying into his own press too much or both. I've seen no one here mention the latter but that's a huge factor in having young guys develop. Ignore the ink and simply work hard.

It's just not going to happen. He is a top 10 offensive rebounder and better served cleaning up the boards and being a lob threat.

Congrats to Nigeria for punching their ticket to Rio. Aminu from Portland is their star player. Perhaps their other NBA guys will start to play for them now that they are in the Olympics.

They will have a formidable team for years to come. Some of the best Center prospects in the world are Nigerian, their rim defense will end up world-class. For now they've got fringe and ex-NBA talent like Ike Diogu and Ben Uzoh.

Potential 2nd round draftee, Syracuse Senior(Former Dukie) Michael Gbinije, plays for them too, he's sort of a Sefolosha type of player.

So far in the Olympics: Australia, Brazil, Nigeria, and the USA. Fiba Americas will get two more, Eurobasket two more, Asia one more. Then 3 more teams from the qualifying tournaments.

Tell me what exactly you'd have like seen down the stretch?

Schröder fouled out
Refs wouldn't have given Dirk a foul even if he lost his leg or tore a meniscus
The whole team was ice cold from outside. I think 25% over the game and most of the makes were contested or semi contested yolo shots
France was happy to leave the shooters open and close out as good as possible

So what's left? Iso for Pleiß vs Rudy? C'mon
Subbing in Voigtmann and letting him try his face up jumpers that were good all night would have been an option...
PnR with Schaffartzik were yolo as well. But he's a very weird player. Hits contested 3s better than uncontested...
He couldn't finish inside though and was neither finding teammates consistently other than with kick outs that the team couldn't convert.

Just a bad situation and a way more talented French team.

Schroder fouled out with around 1 minute to go, the game was in hand at that point, they should've had him in earlier. Right after they regained the lead around the 3 or 4 minute mark.

Instead they took panicked jumpshots.

Still what play would you like to have seen exactly? I mean I know all of the players and their strengths and limitations very well...
It was also a friendly game in a venue with a defunct air ventilation, resulting in 40-45°C temperature. I doubt the team wants to overplay the player who's supposed to carry them through the tourney before it begins.

Now that the warmup games are over for Eurobasket should we make predictions for the tournament? I think one through seven would be good as teams that finish up to seventh place can make the Olympics.

Let's see but I think most realistic fans did not expect singnificant offensive improvement during the season. Sure there is some fantasizing on his progress, but I don't think most guys here are overrating how good he is. Most guys expect defensive dominance + very strong rebounding. With the toll of a whole season as a starter, his stat "quality" might go down a little (opp fg% a the rim for example), but barring injury he will average 11+rbs and 2+Blks per game and somewhere between 8 and 12 ppg. This would be great anyway.

Anone watching the Mexican/Dominican Republic game? I just turned it on, Mexico at half. I think Karl Anthony Towns is playing.

Canada plays Argentina tomorrow at 1:30 MT. Should be on ESPN3. Scola was huge for them today. Canada had the day off. Both Scola and Nocioni played a lot today so we will see if there is enough gas in the tank for Argentina. Their young guys will really need to step up.

Luis Scola going off on Canada. Would be a big win if they can hold off Canada with all their NBA guys.
