Summer League Notes And Discussion

I just love this kid Mitchell. He said it was his worse game defensively ever so he is going to watch film. OK I have to calm down because it is only summer league but this kid is going to get regular playing time this season. I was also impressed with the basketball IQ of Bradley. I think he is going to be very good and could end up playing backup center.

The position that worries me is PF. If Favors isn't healthy then we are going to need an upgrade. Bolomboy is not the answer as the backup. I actually like Julian Wright. He seems like a bruiser type player who can rebound.

Lol. I don't think Wright is a NBA player anymore, but I do like him as a SL vet. He has ballooned up a bit but still has the hustle and athletic ability.

Great things from all the guys we needed to see great things from today: Exum/Mitchell/Bradley all looked excellent. Bolomboy kind of flew under the radar, but he's proven himself enough as an energy guy at levels higher than this, so I'm not worried.

Jazz are set at the PG/SG positions. Rubio, Exum, Neto. SG Hood, Mitchell, Burks, SF Hayward/Ingles, Center Rudy/Bradley. PF Favors/JJ/?

I hardly even recognized Rubio, dude looks totally different from when he came in the league.

Rubio looks like he could be an extra in Sons of Anarchy.

I wasn't suggesting he was. He just looked better than all the other bigs not named Bradley. For a third string tough guy he would be ok. I barely noticed Bolomboy.

Griffin had a few super exciting plays.

Yeah, Bolomboy looked lost. I really think he is a center in an undersized PF's body.

How does a guy like this fall that far?

He actually rose. Original mocks had him in late teens , early 20's. He was my original want at 24.

He climbed up draft boards after combine, workouts and interviews.

My observations from the SL game

Exum - when he is focused he is a very good player but in the second half he started to coast and it showed on the court.

The midrange game looked promising.

Dante needs to remember that it is his drive game that sets up his shooting game.

He also looked more like a leader out on the court.

Mitchell - live his focus on defense and he was disappointed in his defense even though he had 3 steals.

The game looks so effortless to him. It is very smooth.

He has a very bright future in the NBA.

Eric Griffin - I think is worth to sign to the new 2 way contracts.

He is an amazing dunker and worth watching in the g league.

Tyrone Wallace - has potential but he seemed to be forcing it a little during the game.

His shot still looks funky.

Tony Bradley - is a project completely. He is still very slow of feet.

He also seems to rely more on his size then on positioning on rebounding.

Joel bolomboy - meh. He didn't really do a lot and has some f the same rebounding problems as Bradley.

For some reason he still looks lost at times on the floor and what to do.

Mitchell looked pretty much perfect. I even liked how engaged he was while sitting on the bench. You could tell he was constantly talking basketball with his teammates. Seems like a leader.

Played great on both ends.

Exum had a great game too. Got to the rim well, started out hitting the outside shot. Made some nice passes.
I still don't feel confident in his offense when watching him but...... I'm consistently blown away by his defense and his defense alone should get him minutes as he develops offensively. And that speed will get a few buckets each game on run outs, steals starting fast breaks, and a couple half court blow by's every game.

Liked what I saw big time.

I liked bradley size and had a really nice game albeit quieter.

Bolomboy kinda stunk.

Fun game all around and very encouraging.

The thing with Bradley that stood out is he keeps the ball high when he catches it, which is a huge skill to have. He also had a couple of decent blocks which was nice to see since he wasnt a prolific shot blocker in college.

He just really needs to add strength. If he can get his body right he can be a force down low with his length. Seemed like whenever he tried to post up he just got knocked off balanced a bit too easy, which is to be expected from one of the youngest rookies in the NBA.

Just summer league and one game but I can't remember a rookie looking that impressive in his first summer league game in like ever. Haven't seen Ball yet but so far the best players I've seen are Mitchell at #13 and Adebeyo at #14.
