Summer League: Utah vs Detroit Mon. July 9th 1:00 MT

If the Jazz FO had any smarts, they would lose and let the young players play all the minutes to foster growth. Well known fact. Anyone with more than 10 minutes real NBA game time should be benched immediately and for the duration of summer league play for the good of our future.

Reminder to Locke: And Kanter was schooled today by an 18 year old who hasn't played a single game in the NBA. Hey, but at least Enes can hit about 60% of his FT's compared to Drummond's 30%. So he's got him there.

Gosh damnit you're dumb. Look, Kanter had a bad game, we get it. Now stop freaking out, it happens. People have bad games. Michael Jordan has had bad games, Kobe Bryant has had bad games, LeBron James has had bad games.

Now I'm going to break it down for you...there's a reason that Drummond was considered a possible #1 pick at one point. He has great size, strength and athleticism. He's a freak, basically. He really struggled at UConn, but I have a feeling he's trying to prove some people wrong about him, and Detroit is a tough team that's going to push him along further. Players like Drummond are players that Kanter is going to struggle against, luckily for us, there's not a lot of players like Drummond in the NBA. Now stop overreacting over 1 freaking game in the freaking summer league, you're over-analyzing and it's annoying the hell out of me.

(In case you are, Favors and Hayward are with the U.S. Olympic Team's practice squad.)

Ah, thought maybe he was done after not being selected for the actual team. My bads.

Those two fadeaways Drummond had seemed really lucky to me. How can one shoot sub 30% from the FT line but nail fadeaway jumpers?

There have been players who looked fantastic in summer league that never materialized into stars, and there have been players that struggled in summer league who turned into very good NBA players. Summer league play doesn't entirely translate to regular season play and in the grand scheme of things means very little, but if it means a few members here jump off a bridge after 1 game doesn't go like they hoped - then that's a price I'm willing to pay.

Carry on with the "Kanter sucks and so do the Jazz" conversation.

Looks like that P3 or whatever camp Kanter was going to did not improve his leaping or explosiveness at all. Of course it is summer league and many wrong conclusions can be made from it but for the player with Kanters size and hype you would expect more then this pathetic performance. Stockton Jr. impressed me with his great lateral movement and positioning on defense, little pesky bugger with big heart. And his passing was good as well. He will make it to the league one day.

Meh. Same ol same ol.

Burks tried to go one on one nearly every time he touched the ball. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn't.

Kanter takes 20 seconds to make up his mind what to do and then has no confidence to shoot a shot. Instead he goes to that "Fat Man" up and under move that sometimes works and a lot of the time gets blocked. He lacks explosiveness. So while I'm not ready to call him a bust quite yet I am ready to say that he'll never end up being more than a role player in this league. If I were him I'd work hard to develop a Memo Money like perimeter game. Memo didn't have much explosiveness to dominate down low. But at least he had a smooth jumper to bring defenders outside and could later set them up for drives and post ups.

It's summer league folks. I seem to remember Kirk Snyder doing well... I also remember Favors looking like crap.

Where's Kirk Snyder right now? Where's Favors?

On a fun note, Stockton's form in shooting is identical to his dad's (except that he shoots it left-handed). Even the way he brought the ball up the court was similar. I say keep him on just for entertainment value.

I"m surprised he was still standing after one foul he took to the head.

Yeah I tend to agree.

I remembered Jerryd Bayless was tearing it up 1 year and that hasn't translated neither. Neither has Anthony Randolph who sets a summer league record 1 year if I remembered it correctly...

Where are those guys now?!?!

Seems to me the guys who are good at pick-up games, wheeling and dealing, playground ball, type players seem to do well.

Kanter plays better in a structured environment so it should come to no surprise that he didn't do well...
