Summer Poker League 2016

I got one pocket pair all night in more than two hours pf play. Only had an ace in my hand three times. Besides the pocket pair of tens that I went out with KQ off was my best starting hand. I can't bluff a mouse. Ugh.

Hey, at least you didn't go all in on a stupid bluff to push Jamezz out. :p

I'd also like to point out that GF finished behind Austin, who asked "how many of each card are there in a deck?". :D

Fun game. I wish I didn't suck so bad at poker.

If I get the finishing positions wrong please tell me.

1 -- Jamezz 8pts
2 -- devgchr 6pts
3 -- Bronco70 5pts
4 -- Siro 4pts
5 -- Gustavo 3pts
6 -- Austin 2pts
7 -- Gameface 1pt
There wasn't 10 people?

Lololololololol

IIRC, he also called a fairly sizable bet, after the river, with a pretty much nothing.

That was actually the worst. Holy ****, he just straight up made a donation. And he said that he had gone that far so why not. I get that if you think your high card can actually take the pot, but there was really no chance his like jack or whatever it was would have been enough.

But, it's always good to have players like that and he was really enthusiastic about joining the league. He's the frontrunner for most improved player in the league right now because really he has tons of room to get better.

I think it's gonna be cool playing with a smaller group for the league. There are two league players who didn't play this time but even with 9, we're all gonna get pretty familiar with each other's games. It really creates opportunities for complex play that don't exist in what is often basically random stranger vs random stranger poker games.

How big of a part in the game do you think is playing the mind games?

The first league I played in was one I started when my ship went on deployment. Most games had eight players and six of the players where people from my division who played almost every game. A few times we went two tables with up to 14 total players in a game. I don't have the binder with me, I could verify, but I think there were 23 total different players over the course of the league. We played 84 league games. It should have been more, but we got grounded from poker for about a month and a half. But the point of this is that we all got VERY familiar with each other's games. That's really what made me fall in love with poker. I was already way into it, but that experience of playing the same few people over an 84 game league, and really we had played tons of games before we started the league. Navy ships are at sea a lot before they go on deployment and we played every night we were underway that we didn't have a general quarters drill.

Our league structure was pretty simple. There was a $10 buy-in, $1 went to league prize pool, the rest to that game. So winner usually won maybe $40-$50. Points were awarded very similarly to what we're using this time, except winner got +3, second got +2 and third got +1.
