Suns Are "Eyeing" Favors

It is a weird trade market to me... seems like a ton of talent is available that would have been gobbled up in prior years. I'll bet we see some significant trade action.

It's all about that deadline. Teams want to keep their options open until the last second.

Favs to phoenix makes a lot of sense for them because he is extension eligible and they have a ton of cap space they could use for him. They have a few filler pieces in Tucker/Dudley/Warren... and they have some draft assets as well as prospects to fill the gaps. It kind of makes some sense.

I agree it makes some sense for them. They have no one in the world to pay and no big names will be going there in free agency. It doesn't make much sense to us. Their prospects are are lackluster, and as we stated Tucker is a soon 31 year old UFA. Maybe Phoenix's 2018 1st top 3 protected and Tucker?

Makes sense for us in my opinion. We can't just pay everyone. If the Jazz are paying Hayward the max then they need to make a move to keep flexibility somewhere. Favors will getting a payday soon. Getting a some prospects/picks and keeping some financial flexibility wouldn't be terrible.

Just looked up TJ Warren's 3 point percentage... I thought he was a mid 30s guy... he's 25%... he only excites me as a small ball 4 and that percentage is not good enough.

If the Jazz trade Favors I think it is also a signal that they feel Hayward will stay.

Maybe I'm wrong, but the Jazz still need another All Star caliber player to team up with Gobert and Hayward. It seems that as teams creep closer to the cap, Favors and Burks deals are more (not less) valuable. I'd rather see the Jazz keep both through the deadline and hope they play well enough in the playoffs to increase their trade value for this next offseason. While Favors has been hobbled the past year and a half, when he was healthy two years ago he and Rudy were fantastic together. I'd rather see the Jazz sell high if they can. Make a mild trade using Mack, Withey, Neto (or even Diaw) and/or assets. . . but I don't think this offseason is the right time to move either Favors or Burks (unless some unexpected blockbuster trade presents itself.)

My pipe dream is Boston moves crowder in a Carmelo or Butler deal... and the acquirers send him to us for Favors.

Fit, contract, attitude at basically ideal. Short of getting a super star I think he'd be about as good as you could hope for.

Love me some crowder

Good post

probably wise.

One possible counter-argument is that we need to add a PF if we hope to make a dent in the playoffs. Because without that dent, we increase the possibility of losing Hay and Hill. I think mild desperation makes some sense, so I'd understanding spending a bullet in our chamber to get it done.

My solution to that would be playing Favors and Rudy together less and having JJ take on a bigger role as a 4 in the playoffs. Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood and Hill to start the game, then go to JJ early and bring Favors back whenever Rudy needs a break.

Nobody's talking about Chandler and yet he's probably first on the list to get moved for the Suns. He's been very vocal about his dissatisfaction being on a rebuilding team. His contract is not terrible, he makes a million more this year and next than Favors and is not looking for an extension or restructure. This guy was brought in to entice Aldridge to sign because of his pedigree - anybody remember the Dallas championship? He may be old but he still plays young and exhibits none of the chronic injury woes that Favors does. And it's not like he hasn't played some power forward either. We make Diaw or Burks for Chriss part of the deal and we still have cap space as well as a team that can compete right now and maybe make a run in the playoffs. PUTS ON FLAME RETARDANT SUIT!!!!

I don't agree about trading Favors. The Jazz traded Enes because they relied on Favors. Maybe the duo Enes/Gobert was a better fit for the Jazz?

What if Favors becomes an All-Star changing team? Let's not forget the Paul Millsap example.

Favors has never showed a comprehensive skill set like Millsap. Even then, Millsap was underpaid and undervalued. For crying out loud, we forced him to play SF. Favors has always been trusted and given the keys for success. He's been good for us, but he has never dominated. The chance of Favors being a West All Star is practically zero. Too much quality competition.

How many All-Stars appearances would have collected Millsap if he played in a Western Conference team after Utah? I would say maximum 2 times. Playing with the Hawks he appeared 4 times.

Send Favors in the East Conference and if he stays healthy he could aim for the All-Star game.

You know Millsap probably would have never been an All-Star in the West either, right?

I apologize. I thought you were referring to Phoenix. Honestly, I still don't think Favors is an All Star.

2 times for Millsap is fair in the West. We just never know because we never fully trusted him as a key piece. He was always a luxury player to Boozer or Favors. Had we maximized Millsap, just never know.

In my opinion the Jazz never fully trusted in Millsap. It has been a big mistake let him go, in addition for nothing in exchange. I think the Jazz underestimated him.

The Jazz made several miscalculations in the last years....Korver, Wesley Matthews, DeMarre Carroll..

We even don't know if Enes was a better fit playing with Gobert rather than Favors.
