Suns excited to get Horny as HC

This is a bummer. There are no guarantees, but I think Horny has all the tools to be an excellent head coach. He was an intelligent player, has extensive playoff experience, is a coach's son and is fiercely competitive. Ty might have 1/2 of the last quality. Again, I realize it doesn't mean Horny will be a good coach, but I think he will. As others have said, he can't be worse than Ty. I really wish we would have let Ty go and promoted Horny.

What gives you any reason to believe that Horny would be better than Ty? There is no evidence.

I am just amazed at people hiring someone for HC who has never been HC at anytime anywhere. And Horny has only been an assistant for 2 years. Good luck to him but for the Suns it is a real roll of the dice.
Horny was skilled at shooting, When you are skilled in something,
you know what it takes to get their and you can apply it in different areas.
I hope he does not go but if he does its ok. Only time will tell if he can make it as a HC

Bring back Gordon Chiesa!!! I love the guy and his spots on sports radio are epic.

I have been saying for 3 years that the Jazz need to bring back Gordy for his optimism and energy. I would say I want him to be the Jazz PR but I think I would get killed.

Other random thoughts....

Wow, Horny got hired fast. He only started interviewing for Headcoach like 12 months ago. Ty interviewed for 3-4 years before a team finally selected him.

Maybe Horny contacts Sidney Lowe???? Seriously he could very well snipe a Jazz staffer, could it be Ty?

What outrage would befall Jazzfanz if Horyny Hired Malone or Stockton as assistants? What about when he has them in to work out with the team?

Don't even make me think about this.

i think big men dont make good coaches.
point guards on the other hand tend to make good coaches

And yet Malone said last off season that Burks should be playing PG with Mo coming off the bench and that Favors should be the starting PF.

Maybe he knows what he is talking about.

Yes, but that never really translated into drastically improving any of the Jazz players: Kirilenko, Miles, Hayward: all were about the same with/without Hornacek. Hornacek was a beloved player in Phoenix. But he'll likely have about the same amount of coaching success as Sloan did in Chicago. Most rookie HC's don't survive a rebuilding process. Good luck, Jeff.

Wasn't there a thread noting that Lowe was not at the combine (neither was Hornacek). Perhaps the Jazz have told Corbin he gets another year, but only if changes are made to the coaching staff. Lindsey needs to get involved and bring in some top assistants for Ty.

Yeah. Let's hire the tax evader.

Can't help but thinking this is just a PR stunt from the Suns...

- They know they're rebuilding

- They needed to tank 1-2 more year to accumulate talent

- What better way to do that than to sign a Suns Alumni who can come in, give the locals something to hope for/look forward to

- Tank a couple of years, get some great players

- Kick Hornacek out in a couple of years and get a proper coach

BTW I think this was GSW's plan when they hired Mark Jackson - they just wanted a guy who can create a bit of excitement to sell tickets as well as to tank in '12. Fortunately for them he turned out to be a great coach.
