Earl Watson on Jeff Hornacek via 1280 ---Jeff is a smart scheming coach who has lots of adjustments and counters even durring the game.
Too bad Horny is going to one of the worst teams next year.
Wonder if the Jazz will get Watson to be on the coaching staff.
Monson on 1280 on the drive home (paraphrasing)
Hornacek at his introductory press conference thanked Jerry Sloan & Cotton Fitzsimmons and others. The painfully obvious omission was Ty Corbin. Not a word about the current headcoach with whom Horny had worked on staff for 2.5 years.
Monson said he had observed an obvious riff between the two, he thought Ty felt threatened by Horny because Jeff was smart and motivated and was obviously going to be a head coach because he was ready. Monson kept saying that Ty was a smart man and could be a good coach someday if he learned to be confident and trust his assistants rather than be threatened by them. I don't think he realized it, but everytime he said 'Jeff is ready' to be a head coach and everytime he spoke of Corbin he said 'He could be someday'.
Monson was careful to say that Jeff never told him that there was a problem, it was just what he had observed. He said less than he knew, but just enough to let it be known there had been problems. Something he said made me think Ty & Jeff might have had atleast a couple of blow-ups in practices.
Sometimes its hard to be a Jazzfan. Today is one of those days for me.

He thanked Ty. Even if there had been major spats Horny's too smart to burn a bridge this early in his coaching career.
I hate Ty... God I hate Ty, that said, I'm not convinced that Hornacek is God's gift to coaching that everybody here seems to think he is. Course I may be wrong... he may end up being a great coach. Though the fact that he was apparently a major advocate for the youth does worry me substantially moving forward. Does Ty have any assistant coaches who aren't yes men?
Also, I see unsubstantiated Burks hate is still alive and well around these parts. At least nbanerd and his asinine commentary is absent at this point.
Earl Watson on Jeff Hornacek via 1280 ---Jeff does the job of coaching.
Did he thank Ty or not? Something like this should be recorded somewhere.
EDIT- Found it. Am listening. Boring as hell.

Let us know.
Let us know.
Well that's glaring.It's 30 long minutes.
I'm through his speech and he's answering questions right now.
In his speech, he did not thank or mention Ty other than once- He mentioned the Pheonix team he was with and it included Corbin.
No mention otherwise.
