TCU at Utah

So much fail coming from the Tools Up North, it makes Archie's wife feel good about her decision to marry him.

Gods, what a great day today was.

getting my *** kicked like that made me only want to go out the next week and prove myself even more.

This is what I expected, but instead was treated to 4 qtrs of turnovers, boneheaded penalties, and general disarray. Regardless of the level of competition, the Utah team I saw the last 2 games looks NOTHING like the team of the first 8. On paper, a team that beat AF on the road should be able to beat ND on the road.

Utah needs to find themselves quickly. Neither SDSU nor BYU is a pushover.

I think we'll find how good of a coach whittingham really is. everyone is questioning him and this team right now. they have to bounce back and fast or suffer a collapse at the end of the season.

TCU is not going to get any love from Utah losing like this. Pollsters are going to look at it and say,"hmmmm maybe TCU isn't as good as we thought if ND can go in and do the same thing to Utah on their home turf." The BCS will use any excuse they can to make sure TCU and B.S.U. don't get in the the NC.

And rightfully so.

Like, not gonna crack the BCS not-that-good, or 5-5 not-that-good?

Like not all that good that they've been made out to be by the media and you fans. Which is completely understandable. I thought Utah was going to have an excellent chance at beating TCU in SLC. My main concern was with Wynn. While this concerned was proven valid, I had no idea that Utah's secondary would be destroyed too.

A few weeks ago you guys were competing for the national championship. IMO, Utes are possibly a fringe top 20 school this year. We'll see in 2 weeks how good you truly are.

It's tough. When expectations are so high, the fact that it was still a winning season is totally lost in the dustcloud.

Hmmm.... What will this season be remembered as? I guess we'll find out in two weeks (and maybe after the bowl game as well...) . But the main theme for me at least has been the tragedy known as Wynn...

Again, tough to swallow, but I think you are being EXTREMELY presumptuous in just assuming BYU will win that game. While I can see why coug fans are more emboldened lately, I think next week's SDSU game will be a better barometer.

I'm not really a BYU fan. I cheer for both teams. I am a diehard Jazz and Colts fan though. I am turned off by people like Salty. He single handedly inspires me to root against Utah. He's turned most people off I think.... You and jazzman aren't bad though. I enjoy talking with you guys. Though I seriously would like to know what you guys think about the state of your football program right now. Any concerns over the offensive play calling? Defense? whit? Wynn?
Even my father, a bigtime Utah fan believes that this upcoming rivalry game is going to be tough. He sees the way this Ute ship is going... And how BYU has been improving. He has no confidence whatsoever in Wynn...

Again, we'll see. This game isn't close to the gimmie that was looked at a few weeks ago.

Clearly.

The season was over after we lost to TCU anyway. All I care about now is beating BYU, but I don't even care that much.

Yep I've already resided to the fact that the U will lose these last 2 games and IMO it will take an epic coaching job by Whitt to change that.

IMO the reason I say this is the U (even back in the McBride days) started slower but finished strong. This year they are making the same mistakes as they where at the beginning of the season and their play hasn't improved and seemed to be declining. The ND game is what the Pitt game could've looked like.

Also Thriller the play calling seemed to be dumbed down/simplified hasn't it? It's like they have like 3 different run and 3 different pass calls they run variations of and that's all they're calling so either they're coaching scared or protecting Wynn either way it equals usually losing a game.
The defense play calling is also not changing it up much these past few games don't know again if it's coaching scared or lack of experience from either coordinator as it is just their 2nd year for both.

Anyway combined with what I see, just said and my feeling of years of watching the U I don't see them winning another game unless Whitt does something extraordinary amazing.

Y'know... I mainly agree with you. The roller coaster of it all has been this; you ask any Ute fan, BEFORE the start of the season, if he/she would be happy ending out 10-2 (yes, I am assuming Utah beats both SDSU and BYU - neither a sure thing...) and I think they would be ecstatic. As I remember it, expectations didn't really start boiling over until 4 to 5 games in. Then everyone started drinking the Kool Aid. I was there, I partook. But, this wasn't OUR YEAR at the outset. We were picked to finish 2nd to TCU - still a likely outcome - and somewhere in the middle of the top 25 (where we were prior to the ND debacle).

In the context of the MWC, Utah is still a good team. But for two bad losses, and some overly hyped rankings, the perception is different. Wynn has looked awful the last two games, for sure, but neither loss is squarely on him. Dumb penalties and turnovers have completely stalled any attempt to gain momentum. The special teams have been bad, the secondary looks like a high school JV squad, and the offense has been impotent. Turning the ball over on downs, in the red zone, twice in one game, is just excruciating. It's like a bad dream, in slow motion, and I can't wake up.

But I am still confident that the ship can be righted. A win at SDSU would be monumental to Utah now. They need some kind of confidence and momentum going into the BYU game, or they will be fighting an uphill battle. They still have something to play for, IMO.

The whole team, coaching staff included, needs to get their **** together.
