For the record, I would not object to city or county funds being used to care for lost animals, but Federal taxes are another matter.

Up to 20 countries have indicated support for the Netherlands’ plan to set up an international safe abortion fund to plug a $600m funding gap caused by Donald Trump’s reinstatement of the “global gag rule”, the Dutch international development minister, Lilianne Ploumen, said on Wednesday.

Ploumen took soundings from a number of her colleagues around the world on Tuesday evening after the Netherlands said it would act to mitigate the impact on hundreds of charities around the world.

The “global gag rule”, also known as the Mexico City policy, was reimposed by Trump on Monday, and bans US federal funding for NGOs in foreign countries that provide abortion services or abortion advocacy.

‘We’re in talks with 15 to 20 countries and we’ve also spoken to foundations,” Ploumen told the Guardian. “As well as contacting a number of European countries that we work with on these issues, we’re also in touch with countries in South America and Africa, as well as the foundations. It’s important to have the broadest possible support for the fund.”

Ploumen did not identify which countries had been approached or how much money the Dutch government might commit to the scheme. She said the aim would be to continue support for existing programmes being run by organisations such as the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA), the International Planned Parenting Federation and Marie Stopes International.

“These are successful and effective programmes: direct support, distributing condoms, making sure women are accompanied at the birth, and making sure abortion is safe if they have no other choice,” she said.

Ploumen admitted that replacing the $600m that Trump has pulled from family planning services was a tall order, but added: ‘You should never compromise on your aims from the outset. Six hundred million dollars is a very ambitious target but we’re committed to it.’

She hopes to be in a position to start arranging funding within the next two to three weeks. “We need a bit of time for everyone to get organised, but I don’t want it to take six months. The funding is being stopped immediately, so the sooner the organisations have the security of knowing that their programmes can continue, the better,” she said.

he move sets the Dutch government squarely against the Trump administration and could cause tensions between Europe and the United States, but Ploumen said it was the Netherlands’ right to take an independent stance. “I’m pro-choice and pro-women’s rights. It’s important to stand your ground,” she said. “We respect the decisions of a democratically elected president, but we’re democratically elected too and we can make different decisions.

“This is also about millions of women and girls who often have no voice or live in countries where democracy is less deeply rooted, and when they speak up they need our support.”

Dutch voters are due to elect a new parliament in seven weeks’ time, which will almost certainly trigger a change of government, but Ploumen is confident that support for the plan will continue. “The Netherlands has a long tradition of standing up for sexual and reproductive rights. I don’t see that being a problem,” she said.

Signing things isnt "winning". We have no idea if he will succeed. He's been active his first week, you can say that. We will see the long term results of ripping up trade deals, and a lot of regulations all together. I hope he proves me wrong, and makes me a LOT OF MONEY. I hope my health care costs go down. I hope my stocks and investments sky rocket UP. He will have some success. Lets hope he finds great success.

But if you think hes there no risk in his policy you are an idiot. He is taking some risks. Ill admit they could work. They could, but he could also throw everything into a negative spin too.

Read that Mexico's president cancelled a meeting with trump due to their disagreement over the border wall.
Taxpayers gonna pay the 25 billion or so for that wall me thinks.

Over the last ten years there's been net negative immigration from Mexico. That's part of what's so stupid about this.

Trump has articulate critics on the right, constitutionalists like Mark Levin, who are indoctrinated in Adam Smith trade ideals, ie no tariffs, who reason that tariffs are a tax on the citizens of the country imposing the tariffs because it makes those imports more expensive.

I observe that our American Revolution was the result of international corporates (The British Far East Tracing Co) who influenced King George to treat Americans as second class British subjects who were not allowed to compete with the British home-based corporates, and who had to pay tariffs to the crown to boot, creating a huge payoff for successful smugglers. But our founders wanted to kick the BFETC out compoletely so they set it up so the Fed govt could only finance itself with tariffs imposed on those corporate goods coming in, which in turn created American producers and competitors who eventually produced cheaper goods for US citizens.

I am proud that my wife has dual citizenship (Mexico and US) but I can own property in Mexico or do business there. Mexico government elites are the most regressive on the planet. They literally drive people into the US in order to find opportunities. Most Mexicans who come here will, in the course of a decade, become prosperous because they work hard, unless they send all their pay home.

If I was President, I would tax those dollars sent home, but if they signed up for eventual immigration consideration and got their pay taxed like Americans, I would offer them conditional dual citizenship after five years, revocable if they go home and stop paying income taxes.

I'd love to be a Mexican and go to Sonora and start a farm. I mean, if they decided to honor human beings as our Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence indicate, as having inalienable human rights.

That's the problem, The govt, teaching their people Marxism and reconquenst of the American Southwest, does not believe humans have actual rights. That is a huge factor in why I believe we can take Mexicans in to the US and still have our Constitutional Republic. Prosperous, hard-working people will want their rights. These people will reject the progressives who presume they'll end up being their cattle.
 
If I was trying to take a situation where illegal immigration was essentially flat coming from Mexico and turn it into a situation where people would be willing to risk life and limb to get to the U.S. let me wonder what I would do.

I would charge tariffs on all goods coming from that country to try to destroy employment opportunities.

I would deport a bunch of people who's life exists here and only here for as long as they can remember.

I would charge a tax on money people in this country send to family in that country.

Then I'd build a wall between me and that country and act like I had done everything I could to prevent this new wave of mass illegal immigration of the worst kind of people, you know, rape, drugs, stealing, etc. And that it will require even greater measures to turn back this tide of horror descending upon us.
