Punch Bowl Re-Filler
OK, I realize this is a new thread and we already have the "Can the CJ Experiment Please End" one. But this is a serious question and I'd like to run a poll.

I don't think it's mere coincidence that Kobe had his worst EVER shooting game and then Durant went 6-22. Unlike Kobe, Durant even gave credit for the tough "D" while at the same time saying you can't shoot like that if you're one of the main guys.

If the Jazz make the playoffs and Golden State tanks and falls to the #7 slot or lower - and both of those look like very real possibilities right now - the Jazz will be left without a pick. IMO, this draft looked very strong in terms of SF's and that's what I thought KOC would target. But without a pick, Jazz may have a problem.

Most of us have been adamant about NOT wanting CJ back. But it's hard to ignore his last couple of games. What would he need to do to change your mind? Could he change your mind, especially if Raja were to be traded? Should the Jazz offer him a new contract?

I have to admit the Kobe game opened my eyes. Miles definitely has skills on both ends of the court. He's just so inconsistent and lackadaisical at times. But if the Jazz under Favors and Kanter start to develop some nastiness, CJ could buy in. Could he be the token starter at either SF or SG and play 7-8 mins before Hayward or Burks comes in and plays the rest of the half? On the other hand, it's never a good sign when your shooting percentage has declined 5 years running.

I'd rather have CJ than Bell. And it's not close.

As for re-signing him. It is hard to say yes. If it was a deal similar to the one he is on now, for me, it would depend on if his commitment to defense and passing continues through the rest of the season.

If he's okay going season by season at 3 mill or so I'd be okay with that. Otherwise I'd probably pass.

I think if Utah wants him he will be cheap. I would keep the guy. He's finally playing on both ends.

For the last two games doesn't mean he is FINALLY playing at both ends. I will say, he has shown some defensive consistency, however, that doesn't mean he is going to be good.

Totally agree. A lot of trash is talked about CJ, but the guy isn't clashing with the coach about minutes or riding the pine. He wants to prove to everyone and himself that he can contribute, but I think that probably gets in his head a bit too often. And I've said it before, but the kid just flat out plays better when he's in the starting lineup. Pretty much the polar opposite of Hayward.

HOWEVER... the team can find better and I think they know that. CJ's future with this team likely won't be decided until after the draft. The status with the GSW draft pick, the rumblings about them moving Curry, the simple fact that as much as people love/hate Harris, the 3 spot is actually this team's biggest need (IMO), and the position with the most uncertainty. CJ and Howard are free agents, and I'm honestly not sure how long the team has Carroll for but I highly doubt they're grooming him to move into the starting lineup next year. I wouldn't be opposed to a Burks/Hayward starting tandem at the 2/3, but I feel Hayward's role of the future might be as a sixth man. I also wouldn't be surprised if the team tried to lure AK back into town next year.

CJ is one of those guys I really like, except for when he's on the floor.

No, really. CJ has always been a strict scorer who did not play for boards and did not make a lot of effort on D. He's really turned that around the last couple games. This is a new CJ I have not seen before. The old CJ would have a great game by scoring a ton of points. This guy is getting ORBs and defending the great scorers in the league. Seriously, this is a development.

I haven't been able to catch every game as long as a lot of posters here but this is for sure the first time I've ever seen CJ do everything but score 2 games in a row.

Sample size too small. I highly doubt he can recover from the skid mark that is his career, but It's possible.

Never. Not even if they need 1 more guy to ride the pine to meet the roster minimum.

You have to be trolling HARD. Everyone played better in the last few games. Based on the last games, Tinsley should be a starting PG, too. It has to be a cultural thing in Utah or whatever. He keeps impressing you with 10-20% good games and 80-90% bad games. Look at his stats. I'm not a huge stats guy, but damn, if someone claims to be a shooter or at least takes many shots he should make them. He STILL takes a lot of bad 3-pointers and his FG% is bad as hell. He improved his defense but his overall game is cringe NBA level, but on a team that lacks shooters, he is useless.

Miles' stats over the season are still atrocious! The Jazz Management gambled when they picked up the team option and they LOST. Sign any real shooter in the offseason and he would fit better in this team. Teams are waiving shooters left and right because they have enough of them. Calvin's Defense isn't good enough to cancel out his rock bottom basketball IQ, his shot selection, his stupid fouls and his lack of development.

Give him to the rest of the season. Any player can turn it on for two games. I like what I have seen for 2 games but the Jazz still have another 20 to go. Once they get through those 20 games then we will have a better idea of who CJ Miles is.

It has been almost 7 full seasons, we know who CJ Miles is. A horribly inconsistent chucker that is mentally weak.

Huh. CJ is in a contract year. He has lost a lot of minutes to Burks. He knows if he doesn't play well, he will be done in the NBA, so he is NOW giving effort. The second his contract expires, I would make sure his locker is cleaned out. There are a lot of second round guys that can be brought in to play tough defense, miss three pointers and ride the pine.

You can't be serious. We don't know what Raja was bitching about. For all we know, it was CJ playing an *** load of minutes and jacking up shots every effin time he touches the ball. I'd bitch too. Raja is the best 3 point shooter but has half the shots as CJ because he actually plays team ball. What happened right after Raja bitched? CJ got benched in favor of Alec Burks. That dirt bag rabble rouser Bell, right? What an ******* for doing something, anything to get Burks into the game and CJ out.

CJ is shooting 37% from the floor, 27% from three, and that still doesn't slow the one thing he does: shoot, shoot, shoot. He has to be Bruce Bowen on D to justify any playing time with that atrocious offense and he's not in the same ballpark, league, or nation as Bowen on D. One game against Kobe Bryant doesn't change any of that.

CJ chomps red rags and drinks Verlin's douche water for breakfast, lunch, dinner, nightcap, late night snacks, and halftime belly fillers.
Raja>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>CJ

I'd probably say Raja>>>>>>>CJ. And I am not a Bell fan.

In the game Sunday night, Kobe was trying to be aggressive with Miles early on and CJ managed to draw a charge against him. You could see that pumped CJ up a little bit so he's been playing with a lot of confidence on defense. As all of us who have watched CJ play the last 7 years know that confidence will go as fast as it came. It's only a matter of time.

Have to say this is about what I expected. A week ago, 99.9% of fans would have said NO WAY. Now 2/3 have a "wait and see" approach. I'm still hopeful CJ continues to show off his newfound defense. The one thing that as really impressed me about this Jazz team is the camaraderie. It's something even the grizzled old vets have talked about. Yes, there must be some turnover. But there may still be a role for a reformed Miles.

There is. It just happens to be on another team.
