The HELL NO to AK and Fes Thread

With the abundance of big men on the Jazz roster, I would pass on Fes. If you want a sixth big man, bring back Elson. At least Elson brings a good work ethic.

But I would have to disagree regarding AK (if you can bring AK back at 3-5 million per year for 3-5 years). AK is a nice component who could easily give you 20-30 minutes a game (while Burke develops). At worst, AK would be a really nice trade chip. Don't throw away an asset for nothing. That is just silly.

You do know that Elson is 40 and was injured all of the last half of the season and completely ineffective?

I would take AK at 3-5 mil a year. He plays great defense and since I think Corbin will run the same system as sloan with a few changes, he also can help run the offense. Now a cheap Fes. At 1 -1.5 on a one year deal, I would go for that. There are a few guys that would give our bigs a hard time with. Nene and Bynum come to mind. You could also put him on Dirk early and make him shoot jumpers. You also never know when injury can strike and having an additional 7footer helps.

Might stretch a bit to keep Ak, would drive a hard bargain with Fes.

I don't have confidence that AK can play a diminishing role and maintain a strong mental attitude. He has a repeated behavioral pattern, as far as I can tell, of being a whiner. Whiners demand attention and create drama, not what a team developing a core of young players needs. I like AK, but it's time for him to go, regardless of how cheap we might otherwise sign him for.

It is amazing how AK is still beloved in Utah with all the crap he 's pulled. Besides being grossly overpaid. I cannot believe anyone would want to give a 5 year contract. I highly doubt AK is going to take less than 6 or 7 million. AK will get offers from other teams and I think AK should look at playoff teams so he could have a chance at playing for a ring instead of a rebuild in Utah.

I don't think the Jazz need both CJ and AK. I don't really see the need to bring in another veteran SG/SF to get major minutes unless we move Bell/CJ/Hayward/Burks. Bell and CJ are veterans who demand minutes so bring another veteran is only going to take minutes away from Hayward and Burks. I am done with "bringing in washed up vets to take away minutes from promising rookies" mentality that has been a staple of the Sloan era. It is time to play the best players and move forward instead of holding onto "favorite" jazz players like AK. The goal is about winning and not popularity.

Great point. And that's one reason I think Corbin was given a guaranteed deal and a vote of confidence by ownership. Corbin has to concentrate on playing the younger guys and it may cost him a few wins initially.
Part of me says let's just go for it. Start Burks and Hayward at the wings. Play Favors and Kanter heavy minutes. I don't care if that means the Jazz only win 20 games next season. That just gives us a chance to get another wing or a replacement for Harris.

Depending upon cost, i would keep AK. I assume the following - he'd settle in as an old vet becuase he's not paid 17/yr so expectations would be reasonable. He's intereseted in staying in Utah personally so he'd be satisfied. He would play much less minutes over the whole season with an open understanding that he's not seen as the man.

We need AK, CJ, Milsap, Watson, and even Price to remain with the team for maintaining and teaching Utah Jazz culture. Over the next few years the focus is going to be on growing the players we have not winning. So keeping the right UJ veterans is worth it. I have not mentioned Bell becuase I don't know what his state of mind is. If he came to Utah with the hopes of playing a lot and competing for title, then that has gone. He might have to be traded - but if he was on board, i'd be happy to keep him for a year or two for his mentoring skills.

I would be willing to keep Fes for a price - the reason is for practice. He could be one of the physically tougher players to play against for our new guys to grow up with. While he is a clanking sort of shooter he's athletic enough to be an excellent $1M practice player.

by the way i saw AK argue with Masha about where to meet after the game, during a time out late in the game with the Jazz down by two against OKC. dude really hasnt given a ****e about winning since he signed for the max. why would he start tomorrow just cuz he makes less money?

Easy to have this plan and idea when it isnt your money going down the drain as attendance drops and the team loses money from no wins. Yeah, if it wasnt a business, great idea.

Gotta see what happens with the new CBA.

IF there's an NBA season (that's a huge if), perhaps we'll only play 50 games. Perhaps a 50 game season could be played before Andrei breaks down?

Perhaps there's a better deal out on the FA market?

Perhaps AK will demand too much money?

I would prefer us to move on. Try out Millsap. Give other players some burn.

I think Hayward, Millsap, and Miles can play the position by committee, depending on the matchup. After going back and forth on it, AK shouldn't be brought back.

Thank you.

I think it's pretty fair to have mixed feelings about AK. I'm already tired of losing; we have big question marks at SF; he said he'd give a home-town discount; I'm already tired of losing; he's skilled ....

c'mon.

My thinking here as of late is IF Burks shows he can be our #2 PG and SG, I'd keep AK at a reasonable cost over re-signing Watson to be our #2 PG. AK despite his flaws would add greater value to our roster, IMO. Using older vets as our #2 PG has yielded very inconsistant results over the years... Besides, AK is prolly at least as good a passer as Watson, and certainly more versatile as a defender.
As far as Fes goes, without him we got 5 bigs on the roster; 6 if we count Evans as a big. Assuming Okur returns, and all signs indicate he will, drafting Kanter means Fes won't be back...

We will sign another PG. There is absolutely 0% chance we don't. Every team has at least 2 PGs on their roster, plus Harris is injury prone. Burks might be listed as the 3rd PG on the depth chart (as well as backup wing), but won't get any minutes there unless an injury happens.

Guys, I was thinking we really need to keep a veteran presence around and need a big who can consistently hit a mid-range J. What do you think of bringing back John Amaechi at the right price (everything has a right price, right?). I'm tired of losing and his jump shot is a lot better than Jefferson's. I think Amaechi is underappreciated and y'all just blinded by hate.

Yeah, I think we actually will carry 13 guys on the roster, with 12 active for a game. An experienced PG would be the obvious addition, and would be active depending on the injury situation. Now that we're rebuilding, not sure Watson will want to return. Despite the Jazz history of great PG play, OVERALL as a team we've NOT been a good passing team. My impression is we've targeted guys in the last few drafts who are good passers, and that skill helped us decide on Burks...
