The Inevitability of Impeachment

So, do you think that is something new? Media outlets, on both sides, have attacked the opposing president for years and years now. I don't have any sympathy for Trump. The level to which he and his advisors attack the media could prove to be dangerous down the line. Especially if Trump tries to act on some of his proposals in regards to the media.

Yeah, maybe there's something those 1st Amendment types can do about him.

Sean Spicer: People want decisive leadership and I think they're getting it.

Haha.. for a moment there I thought he said, "People wanted 'dictatorship' and they're getting it".. LOL..

Trump has been trying to govern by impulse, on whim, for personal retribution, for profit, by decree ― as if he had been elected dictator. It doesn’t work, and the wheels are coming off the bus. After a week!

Impeachment is gaining ground because it is the only way to get him out, and because Republicans are already deserting this president in droves, and because the man is psychiatrically incapable of checking whether something is legal before he does it.

Impeachment is gaining ground because it’s so horribly clear that Trump is unfit for office. The grownups around Trump, even the most slavishly loyal ones, spend half their time trying to rein him in, but it can’t be done.

One by one, Trump has decreed impulsive orders, un-vetted by legal, policy, or political staff, much less by serious planning. Almost immediately he is forced to walk them back by a combination of political and legal pressure

Unlike in the various dictatorships Trump admires, the complex skein of constitutional legal and political checks on tyranny in the United States are holding—just barely at times, but they are holding. And the more reckless Trump’s behavior, the stronger become the checks.

Only with his lunatic effort to selectively ban refugees (but not from terrorist-sending countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt where Trump has business interests) has Trump discovered that the American system has courts. It has courts. Imagine that.

Trump’s own senior staff has had to pull him back from his ludicrous crusade against Mexico and Mexicans, where Trump forces the Mexican president to cancel an official visit one day, and spends an hour on the phone kissing up the next

Trump proposed to reinstate torture, but key Republican leaders killed that idea. Sen. John Thune (S.D.), the Senate’s third ranking Republican said Wednesday that the ban on torture was settled law and the Republicans in Congress would oppose any reinstatement. Trump’s own defense secretary holds the same view.

Despite his creepy weirdness, Republicans at first thought they could use Trump for Republican ends. But from his embrace of Putin to his sponsorship of a general trade war, this is no Republican.

Given the sheer danger to the Republic as well as to the Republicans, Trump’s impeachment will happen. The only question is how grave a catastrophe America faces first.

Cry harder.

It's nothing new. Just radically disproportionate. Of the major networks, it seems all but Fox are uber critical of Trump. While Fox was seemingly the only major network that was critical of BHO.

So many people crying about Trump. He will probabaly go down as the best president ever. He is the first politician in a long time to do what he says he is going to do. We should be grateful for that. The first guy in a long time working for the AMERICAN people, and not special interests or the interest of other countries.

People are losing their minds over him keeping us safer and trying to get us in a better place financially. Oh no! The Horror!!

This dictator is doing exactly as the constitution says!

We would be grateful if what he said he was going to do wasn't insane in the first place.

IMO, impeachment is not gaining ground. It is a temper tantrum by portions of the left.

His refugee ban - 7 countries are listed. They are taken from previous reports under the Obama administration. Also there was no outrage when Obama banned Iraq refugees for 6 months. I can understand the ban but I don't really agree with it. I hope it is very temporary. Also it is not a ban on muslims as he promised, thank god. Still sucks.

Black sites and water boarding. I sincerely hope he does not open these sites back up and bring these techniques back. Terrible.

Border wall - This is merely getting funding for something all ready passed in 2007 with bi partisan support. The 2007 calls for a 2 layered wall along parts of the border.

Federal hiring freeze - many presidents have instituted temp fed hiring freezes when they enter office until they determine which direction they want to head. Bush, Carter and Reagan all instituted some form of a hiring freeze.

Mexico paying for the wall - this is just dumb, stop it President.

NAFTA - I am absolutely open to America, Mexico and Canada sitting down and renegotiating this deal. It is 20ish years old and things have changed. Time to update it. But do it from a position of mutual respect for the other 2 nations involved.

TPP - This was never ratified by congress and is merely beating a horse that was already dead.

ACA/Obamacare - he is trying to do away with the mandate which tbh, I agree with. Now I am not for repealing the ACA in full. Tweak and change what didn't work. Don't scrap it and start over. I am cautiously worried here.

Chicago violence - I am all for the feds offering a hand when needed. Now I do not mean troops on the street. But funds, gear, training, intel... I want to see what he does. Very vague statement about sending in "the feds"

Dakota Access and Kesystone - will very unpopular this doesn't really break any laws, policies or anything else.

I can see where there are some extremely unpopular actions here. At least to part of the population. Some things I am not a fan of. Like this idiocy of mexico paying for the wall. SMH.

But nothing even remotely impeachable here. Also does the left really want to impeach Trump and put Pence in the Whitehouse?

Poltifact, which is not considered a partisan source, considers the claim that Trump's order is similar to Obama's actions with Iraq in 2011 to be "mostly false". You mention, for instance, that Obama "banned Iraqi refugees for six months". But, in fact, Iraqis entered the United States in every single month of 2011:

"It should also be noted that Iraqi refugees were still admitted to the United States every month in 2011, though there was a significant drop after May of that year."

He built in some exceptions but he laid this ground work. See why I oppose expansion of power? Allowing new legal precedents to be set?

I just thought it should be pointed out there is a difference in banning Iraqi refugees for 6 months and suspending the processing of applications for 6 months, while a vetting process was implemented. Iraqis refugees were not banned from entering the US in 2011. Syrian refugees are in 2017.

We would be grateful if what he said he was going to do wasn't insane in the first place.

Is it really insane, or are people acting insane for stupid reasons?

I think the wall is a stupid idea, but is it really that insane and inhumane? We have laws. People don't respect those laws. We have laws against unfettered immigration. Who really are the A-holes in that scenario? Its stupid that anyone who is suggesting those laws be enforced be made out to be the bad guy. Its like we live in bizzarro land where good is bad and bad is good.

I do agree with you, though. Can't really be denied. Amazing today that Obama actually released a statement after only 10 days out of office. I have never witnessed anything like this, the most amazing, jaw dropping days of American history of my life.

I have to admit, the first thing I thought of tonight was that Watergate Saturday Night Massacre from decades ago and it does seem "as if history was being collapsed into a black hole, and everything is happening faster then the speed of light".

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...attorney-general-sally-yates?CMP=share_btn_fb

"Analysts compared the firing to the 1973 “Saturday night massacre” when Richard Nixon sacked the special Watergate prosecutor, Archibald Cox, prompting the resignation of attorney general Elliot Richardson.

Laurence Tribe, a constitutional law professor at Harvard University, told MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show: “I think it’s historic. It certainly reminded me immediately of the Saturday night massacre. There are many differences but one is how quickly this has happened in the Trump presidency.

“It’s as if history is being collapsed into a black hole and everything is happening faster than the speed of light.”

Tribe argued that “the executive order really challenges who we are as Americans and violates important parts of the constitution” and noted there had been protests from the ground up.

“I think it’s an important turning point in our history and tonight is part of that extraordinary moment we are living through.”

He did. Also talked about a national registry and spying on their mosques in the US. All ideas that go against a core American principle. I am 100% opposed to it.

Also the media rage by the President, his team and his followers has gotten pathetic. Yeah there are biases and yeah some outlets are not the best sources for facts. But at this point it's like watching a toddler kick and scream in the store because they didn't get any candy. Stop.

Actually, I believe this is false, Stoked. Maybe if you got a link to something he said, reliably reported or out of his own campaign literature. . . . But actually I never heard him say anything to that effect. He does say he believes we should stop taking people from areas deemed to include violent radicals until we can establish a tough vetting to stop terrorists. He has sometimes included a specific qualifier like "Islamic" terrorist or "Criminal" illegals, naming particularly horrific crimes as the reason we need to stop letting such people come freely into this country.

I have been so disappointed with the media actually going into Trotskyite revolutionary mode inciting an uprising against our government. So far from truth, and no attempt to provide actual basis for such opinion.

I don't believe pollsters like Dan Jones who called me and when they realized the gist of my views, abruptly terminated their poll saying their quota for my demographic has already been filled. What liars.
