What's new

The Jazz are trading D-Will to New Jersey!?

As I said, add players we just got to Cleveland, and they are still horrible. The value we got is negligible compared to having a superstar. We did not have to lose Deron at all.

Please take time out from flogging your dead horse to have an honest conversation with yourself. Do you really think the Jazz had a chance in hell in signing Deron to an extension considering both his previous public comments, the state of the team as it stands right now and the likely lockout?

Yes, I do...albeit a small one.

Locke said during an interview on KFAN that the chances that Deron would stay as a Jazz man after his contract is up is 20% at most.

Deron wants to win, we get it. He should know that with this new team and a bigger role for him both on and off the floor, he should be patient and be helpful to coaching staff, support them instead of criticising the system, calling out for change, pointing fingers at others instead of trying to figure things out in the locker room and bringing in solutions instead of complaining all the time. One thing I know for sure is DWill failed to stand against the pressure of being under the spotlights every night and to be the leader of the team. He wants to win the title and I have always admired his competitive spirit and passion, aggressive nature. However, I would be kidding if I told that he was more competitive and dedicated than coach Sloan, by the way.

Some here argue that Deron would probably have stayed after his contract is up. BS. As I said before, the only person who could stop the flow of the rumors, trade ideas that Deron was sicked of hearing was Deron Williams. He did not give any indication of staying, being loyal to the Jazz after that 3 year extension he signed with the Jazz. He did not say "I'm leaving the Jazz after next season", either. Also, I see some reports claiming that Deron had already been pissed off because of Jazz' not keeping Matthews, Korver and Brewer. Well, one of the biggest reasons why Utah matched the contract Portland signed with Millsap was Deron, his faith in Paul. The Jazz brought Jefferson in after losing the focal point of the Jazz offense, to keep Deron "happy". Memo's contract was extended only by 2 years when Deron's contract will expire. I just cannot blame the management for Deron's trade.

Deron wants to win. OK. I believe that, If he had faith in this team and had guts to do the heavy-lifting and had patience and trust in the system and were "happy" with what he got (by "happy" I do not mean being complacent and indifferent) he would not be "unhappy" now. Sources close to Deron are told to be "surprised" but they are reportedly know that Deron was going to leave the Jazz. Some people say "the Jazz were not going to contend for title anyway", BS. This team has a big upside and has underachieved. The Jazz are undergoing a serious and painful transition process and one of the biggest reasons why the process has been painful is Deron's "complaints" and failure to act like a "leader" on the floor. It was not guaranteed that the Jazz all of a sudden become a title contender after the addition of BigAl, Raja etc. If Deron thought so, then he is stupid.

I think it's not like the Jazz showed no signs of being potential threats to win the title in up and coming seasons (nobody can underestimate the bad effect of having so many new pieces and injuries in a well-structured offense), it is Deron who had doubts about the future of franchise, (of course supposing that his will and desire to "win" to "contend" was the most important factor for him to stay in Utah, as he had told.)

I read that Deron learned the trade from ESPN. That's not good in KOC's part. Execution seems to be off. However, I like the fact that ESPN's so-called "experts" could not create unfounded speculations to earn their paychecks. Now, let the Sissy Paul and Dwight dramas begin.

From now on, The Jazz are in a rebuilding mode for the next 3-4 years. They should know that the system that Sloan had run is good enough for them to get 40+ wins as long as they stick with it and believe in it.

I don't have time to obsess about this given that I have to work, but 2 things:

1) holy sh**

2) I think it's a good move if they believe in Derrick Favors. Talented bigs win championships. PGs and wings don't really unless they're over-the-top MVPs. Even Kobe Bryant couldn't get the Lakers out of the first round without Pau.

good post, but I think it is probably falling on deaf ears. Clearly Borat was a Dwill fan rather than a Jazz fan.

Is Deron Williams still the #1 Point Guard in the league? A lot of people on this board seem to think so. Amazing how fast it took to trade the #1 PG in the league. Oh wells, kudos to Jazz though. They weren't going to win anything with Deron and nor are they going to attract any big name from now on. Who wants to play in SLC? LeBron set the trend now.

I just sat and read every post in this thread. Once or twice every page I would come across a post that just SCREAMED "I'm a moron", only to find, by looking towards the left side of the screen, that it was made by the one and only Borat.

Dude, calm the heck down. Sure, we're not "better" team for trading Deron. There is going to be a rebuilding stage, without a doubt, but it is NOT the end of the world. In fact, I think we came out of this pretty well. We got a very solid point guard (how many top 3 pg's have won championships in the last couple of decades anyway?), a very promising, young big man who has tremendous athleticism, great defense, has an NBA body at 19, and could still potentially grow, as well as two very good, not amazing, but very good draft picks that could very well enhance our team. I think this is just about as good as it gets out the terrible situation that the last few weeks have been. Bravo to KOC, I'd love to see another move or two to round out this team and start working towards the future.

Maybe things work out, maybe they don't, but what's done is done so support your team or get out.

I think the Jazz are pretty smooth to do this. They take advantage of NJ's sense of rejection. NJ doesn't look credible to anyone if they lose, bring in a billionaire and can't get anyone to play there. Jazz got a good deal here. Now they need to draft well.

I don't know what "chance" we have of re-signing Deron. This is not a lottery. Even Deron at this point does not know what he is going to do. We can't even offer Deron an extension yet. Don't you get it, it is too early! If we do offer him this summer and he says no, then we can explore a trade at that time. There is no urgency here. Denver waited until last day, and they got better offer for Melo than we did for Denver. Why jump the gun now? And the likely lockout may mean we could sign him perhaps for less that what Melo's extension was. The bottom line is, we got 15 cents on the dollar when we had a whole year to work with. NJ was about to dump Harris to Dallas for expiring contract and late first rounder. They were going to get rid of him. Instead we offer them Deron? This is preposterous incompetency.

I think this is a good move. D.Will is good, but he isn't winning games for us. He's not MJ. Teams that go deep in the playoffs have talent at the 4 and 5 regardless of what they have anywhere else on the roster. But I'll take 4 lotto picks for one anyday.

....Who wants to play in SLC? LeBron set the trend now.

what LeBron set the trend on is the feeling among some diehard fans around the league that if you're not willing to sign a lifetime contract to work for peanuts and donate half of that to charity, you're two-faced and a liar

Maybe the idea of a player option should just be eliminated in the next CBA altogether. And I guess to be fair, the team option should be eliminated as well. You sign a contact for a period of time, period.

Well, the guy accomplished absolutely nothing in NCAA and was a sub-par player there. He then went to NBA's worst team and accomplished absolutely nothing there (Kris Humphries is starting over him in NJ). That pretty much sums it up.

What was Kevin Garnett like his first 2 years in the league?

You are being rather obtuse. We lost a superstar for very little in return. This was half the package Nets offered for Anthony, who if better than Deron, then not by much, and whom Denver had a last chance to trade this Thursday. We have a whole year to work on this - and this is IF he refuses to sign extension, which he might. It is just not a smart move. And I am not a DWill fan at all. It's just that when we trade DWill, I want us to get someone better, not 5 times worse. Not someone, who was nearly traded to Dallas for expiring contract if we did not give them Deron instead.

10 and 6; 17 and 8. Not too bad, but even if it was bad, is your point that anyone who sucks hist first year will be a star? Because most people won't. Favors wasn't even a star in NCAA.

Dude was freshman of the year in the ACC. He had to play next to a very similar player who had seniority. You're talking out your ***.
