What's new

The Jazz are trading D-Will to New Jersey!?

I'm not sure I really get this deal for NJ. Do they really think Deron is a lock to resign there? The Nets will be horrific. If I'm Deron I'm calling LA and telling them to save cap space for me to come play with Blake after next season.

I agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see Deron as a Clipper someday.

That isn't enough for Deron. Should get more than that. I could see it if it brought back Lopez from NJ. Favors is not all that, really a similar player to AJ. Harris for PG? So we got a mediocre player and a mediocre player for an all-star? Not worth it.

DWill has a bad attitude. I don't want him as my franchise. I'll wait for the next Lebron.

The Lebron comparisons are tiresome. DWill is nowhere near that category. You see him putting together a tv special to essentially bash his team?

I really think this was a shrewd move by the Jazz's front office. Everyone knows that the team as it stood wouldn't likely contend for a championship and D-Will was going to leave in 2012. The Jazz got one good player and another with a very high ceiling plus two draft picks. I loved watching D-Will play, but I think people are fooling themselves to think the Jazz could have done anything to keep him in Utah. He isn't like Kevin Durant, plus no free agents want to play in Utah anyway so any move would have had to come as part of a trade.

Terrible trade for the Jazz (depending on the picks). If we get a bunch of high lottery picks, this would be good. But you don't trade the best point guard in the NBA for a couple of role players.

The Jazz will be in some other city in 10 years if they can't figure out how to keep stars. We've always had a problem getting top notch free agents, now we can't even hang onto our lottery picks?

Even if we get high picks. This trade is horrible. Harris is a role player. Favors has literally done nothing. In NCAA or NBA. Yes, he is young, but he has no accomplishments. Even Hayward who is also very young accomplished more than Favors at the same point in time. We just lost top PG in NBA, the only star we have on the roster... for really not that much. Harris is a good player, but ... he is nothing compared to Deron. Favors is just nothing. Picks are a crap shot. And in the best case scenario you might get someone like Deron. This is a horrible trade, all around.

I think two NJ first round picks are probably going to be high lottery.

Depends on timing and protection. Lottery protected for 3 years? Probably won't be any higher than 15 or so after that. D Will will at least get them that far in the east. Now if they are unprotected or top 3 protected that is a different story for the next few years.

This is my instinct reaction. I'd like to be wrong but...

The Jazz were going to lose D-Will anyway. If they didn't trade him now and there is a lock out, what do they do then? I agree that the Jazz didn't get even close to the same value, but this was a move that needed to happen in my opinion. This lineup was not going to get it done.

ESPN reports Utah is getting NJ's #1 this year and GS's #1 in 2012. He didn't mention any protection at all. If that's true, the Jazz have a chance to come away from this trade as big winners.
