What's new

The Jazz are trading D-Will to New Jersey!?

They just traded two of those picks, Lopez is VASTLY overrated, and there's no guarantee DWill will re-sign there.

Second pick was GSW's one, which is protected and will likely be > 10. They have their own picks after next year. AND they just got superstar PG. We lost one.

Jazz get an unprotected pick from the Nets for the 2011 draft and they get the Warriors 2012 pick (which is protected 1-7).

If the writing was on the wall anyway, this trade is great for us. Favors is one of the biggest, athletic guys in the league and he's what, 19? He has a pro body and a ton of upside imo and from what I remember, is all about playing good defense. Whether that's translated to the NBA is another question but kid has massive potential.

Harris is solid and I'll leave it at that.

The two picks could be great. So it looks like we'll have a lotto pick this year, the Nets lotto pick this year, and hopefully the Warriors lotto pick next year but not our own because it will go to Minny, right? Am I wrong here? Am I forgetting any picks? The Memphis one is gone, right?

The only other thing is the draft this year blows so I almost hope we trade one of these two lotto picks this year to pick up a 1st from a typically crappy team for next year instead.

Our own pick is top 15 protected, so we will almost certainly get to use it this year. The two picks combined could be valuable.

I dont know man. It depends on what the Nets get done in the next year or so...That owner wants to spend money.

Agreed. But if his boyz (notice the z) are in NYC, or if LA or Orlando find a way to free up cap space and get a hold of him, he may not think twice.

Currently the Nets (now us) are slated to get the 6th pick in the draft. based on projections anyway. Obviously they may improve and that could tumble down to 10.

ya I imagine ours ends up being around 13... is that late enough to pick up Jimmer? and we can roll the dice on an earlier player such as Brandon Knight

Not sure, either. My money is on DWill going to another team after next season.

one last thing, I really think D-Will HATES change. OK, that's a strong word, but I really don't think he likes it one bit. And I think he liked Utah overall.
But...
life goes on

Jazz and NJ had a decent trade.

Giving a true superstar first NBA elite young PG for players/picks in the range of Gordan Hayward (plus Devin Harris) is as much as rape as any trade in NBA history, perhaps with the exception of Gasol. And it's not like our hand was even forced, like Denver's was. We just removed by moderator.

Well he was probably leaving soon anyways. Might as well get something now. Jazz get a better deal than the Nuggets did for their star and new draft picks could be great. Maybe Utah can grab Dwight or someone else big in a year or two.

Yea because Dwight is going to want to leave Orlando to play for Utah without DW. Man some fans are delusional.

and I appreciate those of you who have some sense of all of the CBA stuff, and Bird rights, and the draft process and all this other stuff that looks like hieroglyphics to me when I try to understand it - thanks for your comments, it may take me 'til summer to digest all this, but at least by then we'll know how this season and the draft ended up

which reminds me, do the Jazz get any picks in this year's draft? I can't even remember what I read a few posts back...

D-Will has never been first team All-NBA. And how do you know that the pick is going to be #9? It's unprotected. And way to totally forget about Favors.

Hi Everyone -

Leonard here. Longtime reader, first time poster. Been living out in San Francisco since college, but still a Jazz superfan. Now, such big news this morning, felt inclined to register and drop in my two cents:

I like the trade. I think being a Jazz fan can spoil a lot of people, and they lose sight as to how marginal and complacent many NBA teams are. There is no worse place to be in this league than an aging, mediocore team that's hovering around an 8th or 9th seed, and has clearly seen it's best days. This incarnation of the Jazz had run it's course, we had some good days, but it's gone from Western Conference Championship to second round exit to being swept to the slow trainwreck of this season....

Deron Williams wasn't going to stay, and the league knew it. Leverage was slipping away and the Jazz faced the very real (and I feel likely) possibility of having him leave for nothing. Do you hang on and hope for the best? Sure, if it's LeBron James. Not it's a borderline allstar on a team falling apart with a best case scenario of a 7th seed.

I like the trade. New era.

Since December, being a Jazz fan has felt like watching a loved one slowly lose their mind.

I understand why this was done, and that it MAY turn out good, but right now it just sucks.
