The Jazz drafting philosophy sucks

No big busts in the first round recently: Hayward, Kanter, Burks, Burke, Gobert, Exum, Hood, Lyles seems like a pretty good crop. Could hit on a few more 2nd rounders, but ehh, can't make 'em all.

Some of KOC's draft picks, as well as his decision to not fully rebuild, were questionable but since DL has taken over I don't see how you can really complain about the direction this franchise is headed. Obviously Burke is the glaring mistake, but based on the fact that Corbin appeared to have had the backing of ownership & DL drafted a PG the following year, I'm not convinced that was entirely his decision.

Even considering the fact that we missed on him, Burke/Gobert/Neto was probably the best crop of picks from that draft. The following year we drafted Exum based entirely on potential with the 5th pick & a borderline starting caliber player in Hood with the 23rd pick (if I'm not mistaken).

Obviously it's still way too early to judge the Lyles selection, but in context of our roster (core of Exum, Burks, Hood, Hayward, Favors, Gobert), it made sense to draft a front court player who brings a unique skill set which compliments our other bigs.

Other than prioritizing high character players, the only trend I see is that the FO adjusts it's philosophy according to roster, draft position, & available talent.

Hack's got the downs!

(It all makes sense now. Let's take care of our 'special friend')

No Hack... you are absolutely right. The thread you started dedicated to drafting Trey Burke was perfect. This thread is right at your level! Jazz shouldn't draft white stiffs. The Jazz should draft Hack!

If you didn't hire me, then that would be a BIG mistake.

I have more knowledge of basketball in 1 of my chromosomes than NAOS does in his whole body.

This is like saying Hitler should be our President because he's more compassionate than Stalin.

Gotcha. My favorite player in the NBA is Cousins. Just sayin.
I was the developer of a couple of the Tahoe ski resorts so I spent a little time in sacit.

NBa scouts connects, design ski resorts, bet you got a supermodel wife to right? personally ball with Obama too I bet.. Eat dinner with Tom Brady also? I bt soon your going buy some share of the J from the Millers too right? God Bless the internet where Boos can pretend they re someone special

RJ Hunter was the kid yall should of drafted. Klay Thompson like. Trey Lyles ceiling is a reserve plyer.. Could of had had Rj Hunter plashing down 3s. Hyward and him could ply on floor at same time

Just to be fair, Hack doesn't get paid millions per year to make personnel decisions. DL and other Jazz FO staff do. Thus we might reasonably expect DL and FO staff to make better personnel decisions on average than Hack, and it is fair to judge DL and FO staff in hindsight as to whether they are doing their job well, just like every job review looks at past job performance. I'm not saying I agree with Hack, just that I think some of the criticism leveled at his is unfair.

We are not saying that he should be right 90% of the time. That would be unfair. A "perfect" draft pick (one that you would not change after 10 years) is very rare. I'd say GMs are right about 10% of the time and that is pretty good. Hack is saying he is right 90% of the time. We are just calling him out on this ridiculous statement.
