What's new

The Lakers are DONE!!

I'm convinced the entire Lakers team just really hates Kobe, and played like crap all series just to spite him.

I don't think so.

Artest always was a poor fit. And he's losing his athleticism quick. Dude can't even dunk anymore (see his muffed dunk?)

Dfish couldn't start for most NBA teams anymore.

Kobe is nothing more than a glorified Ray Allen or Michael Finley now. He's nothing like the scorer he used to be. He can shoot, but he can't score anymore.

Getting nothing out of your 1 and 3 throughout the season puts pressure on your other 3. And eventually another team is going to figure that out.

Combine this with Pau and Bynum being too slow to help on Dallas' perimeter players, the Lakers were cooked from the start.

I think Magic hit the nail on the head. Too old and too slow.

had they had Ariza instead of Artest, perhaps the Lakers offense could have bailed them out of this one. Instead, the lakers threw up bricks while the Mavs ran circles around them.

This is more about Dallas kicking *** (just like they've done to us) than LA laying a deuce to settle some pissing match with Kobe. Versatile big men surrounded by quick guards and shooters are hell to defend.... On all levels of Basketball. Which is why I'd much rather have the Jazz go after some speed and quickness with Biyombo or Leonard or Knight or some shooter than some stiff euro who can "post up."

Also, I wish Stevenson was on the court during the Bynum hit. He probably would have nailed Bynum in the face.

The one thing I thought Phil was good at was keeping control of his very talented teams. Guess not.

Odom's foul wasn't "horrible" compared to Bynum's but by definition, it was a Flagrant 2. NBA rules state that a Flagrant 2 is "unnecessary and excessive contact. This usually has a swinging motion, hard contact, and a follow through." That fits what Odom did regardless of whether it was as bad as Bynum's.

f the lakers. I bet the clippers will take over once the kobe era is over and the lakers will regress to the state of the clippers right now. I'm glad they got embarrassed like they did. :D made my DAY.

Thought Odom's foul should've been a flagarant but didn't think a flagarant 2 was necessary. Bynum's foul clearly a cheapshot and he should be suspended at the outset of the next nba season, whenever that may be.

The Lakers made their jump from "playoff team" to "3-straight NBA Finals" because of the Gasol trade - and Pau was unable to maintain the level of play he had in previous seasons when he was a top-15 player in the league. Looks like age, all the extra playoff minutes as well as the 2008 Olympics finally caught up to them.

LA's game 1 & 3 losses to the Mavs weren't all that different from their Game 1 & 3 victories over Utah in last year's conference semifinals - against Utah they closed 4th quarters and this year they just couldn't finish.

It's sort of sad nobody on the Mavs went and slugged Bynum, although since they are still playing I can see why.

What's interesting to me is that the exact way GS beat down a slow and old mavs team a few years ago was the exact same way this quick Mavs team beat down the slow and old defending champs.

It's amazing what can happen with a quick guy running around with 3 point shooters all over the place and a center who covers a ton of area.

Got the quick guy in Harris. Definitely need shooters. Sign Chandler or DeAndre Jordan and/or draft Biyombo

You mean a team like the Orlando Magic? Dirk just can't get the credits he deserves. He toyed with Pau Gasol just like Gasol toyed with everyone the past 2 years.

I hate JJ and his league leading little man's disease. However, that cheep shot was bull and I hope they throw the book at him.

There's a huge difference between shooters and chuckers.

Hedo, Arenas, and Jameer are high volume chuckers who take a lot of shots and miss a lot.

Peja, Dirk, and Terry are high percentage shooters who are "making guards."

Orlando has plenty of "shooting guards." What Dallas has, and what we need, is making guards.

We don't need any more CJ miles. Which, essentially, is what Orlando is. Dwight Howard and a bunch of CJs.

As far as Dirk getting the credit he deserves... Ummm... Dallas's bench scored something like 79 points today. I think you gotta hand it to them. Peja, isn't dead yet. Dude may have a bad back but he can still shoot the hell out of the basket. Jason Terry has been a fantastic offensive player for most of his career. Pretty sure that's why we signed him to be our starting PG/SG a few years back. And JJ Barea is really good.

He had a good matchup against the slow Lakers team. He wont do this good against any other team in the playoffs.

Odom's looked to me like it deserved the flagrant 2. I don't think any suspension for that foul will be forthcoming.

Bynum should get a 100K fine and 20 game suspension for that cheap shot. It's not the 1st time he has made a play like that. And attempting to hurt a guy in the playoffs just because you already lost is just being a punk. Playoff games count more and should be punished accordingly if done at this time during a game. 20 regular season games mean less than 2 playoff games. If the Lakers were moving on I would expect a 2 or 3 game suspension. So 20 regular season games to me is not much different.

Agreed: that was one of the most egregious fouls I have ever seen. That was purely to knock the guy silly regardless of the danger to the other player. I never had a reason to dislike Bynum, but he is in my Hall of Shame now with D Rodman.

The announcers said that Bynum pulled a similar move in the last game of the year. If this is a pattern, he needs to be warned that the next one gets a years suspension, any after that lifetime expulsion.

You forgot 2004? He had the most talented team with 4 hall of famers and couldnt keep them from fighting with each other. Its strange that Malone was more of a glue guy for the Lakers than anyody else they had. Phil quit in disgust and then wrote a book about the Shaq-Kobe feud that cost them the ring.
It just goes to show that when inmates decide to run the asylum there is nothing that Phil or Red Auerbach or whoever it is coaching your team, can do about it.
Phil was quoted as saying that he "was honestly happy that this season ended". Must have been a hell of a ride, even for him. Strange coincidence that in the same season Sloan left his team too, after another hell of a ride.
