The Lakers are DONE!!

A lot of you are just plain overreacting. The Lakers aren't "done" exactly. They still have a good team. Dallas has a good team and with Dirk were one of the best teams in the NBA this year. Lakers just quit after Dallas got unbelievably hot from 3. They had lost 3 fairly close games in a row. It's not like Dallas rolled them up in every game.

The Lakers glaring weakness is point guard. Both defensively and offensively. Derek Fisher looks 100 years old and Steve Blake sucks. Why they didn't play Shannon Brown more is beyond me. Bynum is still one of the better big guys around. Gasol struggled like crazy in this series but is still one of the top 10 big guys in the NBA. Kobe is still putting up numbers.

Oh and 20 games for Bynum? Good luck with that. 5 seems about right. That would be about 1 million in lost salary. I don't think anyone has been suspended for more than 20 (outside of players ending other players careers or actually fighting with fans).

Got the quick guy in Harris. Definitely need shooters. Sign Chandler or DeAndre Jordan and/or draft Biyombo

The Lakers had nothing at PG, so the Mavs' guards Kidd, Barea and Terry didn't have any problems. After watching the impact of 30-something Jason Terry in this series, I think some people will re-think the potential of a shooter like Jimmer Fredette. The Mavs are a team of shooters.

Also, it's a real slap in the face to Kobe when he can be contained by Jason Kidd.

Shooters who can drive as well.

I think we send mixed messages regarding that kind of contact. People love talking about the Bad Boy Pistons and all the things Lambeer and Mahorn did to discourage players from going down the lane repeatedly. That's pretty much exactly what Bynum said, he hit Barea because he got sick of seeing him drive the lane repeatedly. 15-20 years ago that would have been maybe an ejection and there would be little to no talk of suspension. If he does it a few more times during his career then Bynum will be fondly remembered by fans for being tough.

We're really not consistent in how we think about those kinds of plays.

Its because the NBA isn't consistent about dealing with them. They can't even decide if they are flagrant 1 or flagrant 2 fouls half the time.

They were also often called goons, even in contemporary times.

There's a huge difference between shooters and chuckers.

Hedo, Arenas, and Jameer are high volume chuckers who take a lot of shots and miss a lot.

Peja, Dirk, and Terry are high percentage shooters who are "making guards."

Orlando has plenty of "shooting guards." What Dallas has, and what we need, is making guards.

We don't need any more CJ miles. Which, essentially, is what Orlando is. Dwight Howard and a bunch of CJs.

As far as Dirk getting the credit he deserves... Ummm... Dallas's bench scored something like 79 points today. I think you gotta hand it to them. Peja, isn't dead yet. Dude may have a bad back but he can still shoot the hell out of the basket. Jason Terry has been a fantastic offensive player for most of his career. Pretty sure that's why we signed him to be our starting PG/SG a few years back. And JJ Barea is really good.

Spot on. I have high hopes for Dallas getting out of the west and being a damn tough matchup for whoever comes out of the east.

Agreed.

I certainly hope they send some sort of message. That foul on JJ was as blatant as they come. Full-on tackle. He looked like a safety trying to force a WR out of bounds. I would hope for 5 games minimum.

It just goes to show that when inmates decide to run the asylum there is nothing that Phil or Red Auerbach or whoever it is coaching your team, can do about it.
Phil was quoted as saying that he "was honestly happy that this season ended". Must have been a hell of a ride, even for him. Strange coincidence that in the same season Sloan left his team too, after another hell of a ride.

...now you know why Stern and the owners won't be giving in one iota...and the lockout will last a whole calender year!!!
