I agree with homey. Had Sloan simply been "out of gas," I think Johnson would have had no problem taking over. Jerry would have told him, "look, I'm exhausted. I physically can't do this anymore." But Phil knew the real problem was insubordination. It had been an ongoing problem that KOC and Greg refused to address, until it had pushed Jerry to the ultimate edge. When you've been asking your superiors for help and they've turned their backs until you've told them you're quitting - and then they make a last ditch effort to get you to stay - well, I think you know they're doing it just because it will put THEM in a bind and make THEM look bad. Phil was old school like Jerry. And him leaving at the same time under those circumstances made perfect sense. I applaud Phil for supporting Jerry and standing up to KOC and Miller Jr.

At a minimum, he should have stayed on as head assistant to help Ty out. Remember how understaffed Ty was early on for assistants? (of course, that showed how ill-prepared he was too, shoulda had a list of asst coaches in his wallet for years). Phil should have really taken over as interim HC and allowed the Jazz to have a thorough review of candidates.
I think Phil not taking over shows how effed up the Jazz front office and management was, The best line I think I heard was on the Mike and Mike show on ESPN after the DWill trade and Sloans earlier resignation something to the effect that Jazz management used up all the toilet paper and then decided to take a dump.
