The Non-Jazz NBA Thread in the Jazz Section

They have like 10 second round picks the next 5 years or something... they gonna be okay I think.

Once the Jazz land someone amazing with tampering they will decide to drop the hammer and draw a line.
At the risk of sounding like a broken record over this issue (that still pisses me off), LHM had come out in an interview talking about this. The context was during that year when a retired Keith Van Horn was included in a sign-and-trade for a bunch of money for Dallas to land Jason Kidd, then the Lakers used Aaron McKie, who was on the Philadelphia coaching staff, to use his bird rights in a sign-and-trade (if I recall correctly, it was the Gasol deal), and I think there was even some shenanigans with Shaq going to PHX but I’d have to brush up on that one. Anyway, LHM said that we had a deal lined up where we’d use Ostertag in a S&T but the league nixed it, saying he was retired.

Who honestly cares about salary matching shenanigans... like just let it happen. The players get this weird pay increase... it makes a trade work.... owners have to pay for nothing but its fun. Lets go back to the shenanigan era.

The shenanigans are "hey, the Lakers and Mavericks can do this with their retired guys but Utah can't." So, we're still in the shenanigan era. Are you not having fun?

Nah they literally changed the rules to prevent that type of shenanigan... I want that particular shenanigan I guess.

Watch the investigation that happens when Utah signs a player away from LA or NY (won't happen but its fun to imagine). The league will need to protect franchises from the evils of tampering.

Yes, that’s the thing. The only reason you close that loophole is when teams like Utah think they can do it.

This happened once, the league took 3 first round picks and a second rounder from the New Orleans Jazz because they signed Gail Goodrich.

Why would a contender part with a first for a non-shooting "energy" guy whose defense is extremely suspect? I'm sure Vando is a great dude, but that player type can easily be picked up off the trash heap.

You don't win in the playoffs with energy guys with no ball skills. The game slows down in the half court, matchups are analyzed under a microscope and all flaws are mercilessly exploited. Vando has SF size but can't stay with anyone on the perimeter or shoot. That's.... not ideal.

Vando often looked decent on the Wolves when he had four scorers around him, but they won despite him, not because of him.

Vando is much better than you think he is though. You are a bit biased when it comes to him. Remember when you said he is afraid of contact and only gets uncontested rebounds? He is also a better defender that you give him credit for. Gets lots of deflections and steals.
